Objective To investigate the clinical and pathological characteristics of normotensive pheochromocytomas ( NP) . Methods This retrospective study included 97 patients with a pathological diagnosis of pheochromocytoma at the Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University Medical School during January 2004 to December 2013. All available clinical, biochemical, and radiological records were reviewed in these patients who were then categorized into hypertensive pheochromocytomas (HP) (n=64) and NP (n=33) groups. 97 cases of Adrenal Gland Scale Score of pheochromocytoma were examined, including tissue microscopic pathology assessment, ki67 and phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase ( PNMT ) immunohistochemistry and catecholamine type. Biochemical examinations of 95 subjects with primary hypertension ( PH) were recorded for comparative study. Results The patients with NP showed lower proportion of clinical triad than HP, inapparent metabolic disorders, and lower urinary catecholamine levels than HP, but showed higher results than primary hypertension. The weight of tumor was positively correlated with 24 hour urinary norepinephrine level in patients with HP(Y=1. 376+0. 653X,R2=0. 118, P=0. 028), but not in patients with NP;and the size or diameter of the tumor was negatively correlated with PNMT immunohistochemistry in patients with NP(Y=0. 940-0. 356X, R2=0. 494, P=0. 005), but not in patients with HP, indicating that NP may be misdiagnosed clinically. Conclusion Patients with NP have distinct clinical, biochemical, and pathological phenotypes; the phenotypic changes are closely related with the expression levels of catecholamine pathway products during the occurrence and development of the tumors.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the status of cell differentiation in nasal NK/T cell lymphomas.
METHODSThe clinical data of 88 cases of NK/T cell lymphomas were collected. Antibodies to the following antigens were used in the immunohistochemical study: T cell differentiation antigens (CD3epsilon, CD5 and CD1a); NK cell associated antigens (CD56, CD57) and antibodies of CD34 and CD38.
RESULTS(1) Clinicopathology: clinically, frequently involved sites were the nasal cavity and the pharynx. Ulceration and erosion of the mucosa were common signs. Pathologically, diffuse infiltration of the tumor cells was observed in 68 of 88 (70.45%) cases of nasal NK/T cell lymphomas. In 71 (80.68%) cases infiltrated cells were predominantly medium to large sized; (2) Differentiation status of tumor cells: the tumor cells expressed CD3epsilon in 78/88 (88.64%); CD5 in 56/88 (63.63%), CD56 in 25/88 (28.41%) and no positivity for CD1a, CD57, CD34 and CD38.
CONCLUSIONStatus of tumor cell differentiation in nasal NK/T cell lymphoma may have passed the stage of progenitor cell differentiation but not yet to the stage of mature T or NK cells.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical pathological features and immunophenotype of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) with discussion on its diagnostic clues to improve diagnostic level.
METHODSFive cases of FDCS were analyzed by clinical, pathologic and immunohistochemistry methods.
RESULTSFive cases of FDCS were located in the cervical lymph node. Microscopically, the normal architectures were effaced by ovoid, spindle-shaped with fascicular, diffuse or whorled patterns and with rich lightly eosinophilic cytoplasm, syncytial appearance. Nuclei tend to show irregular clustering, scattered multinucleated giant cell. Nucleoli often distinct, sometimes prominent. Mitotic count variable, may show significant cellular pleomorphism. Immunohistochemical studies show that the tumor cells were positive for CD21, CD35, but negative for CD1a, CD34, CK and HMB45. Under electron microscopy, the tumor cells possessed long villus cytoplasmic processes and desmosome-like junctions, Birbeck granules were absent.
CONCLUSIONSFDCS is a rare malignant tumor and differential diagnosis includes Langerhans cell sarcoma, interdigitating dentric cell sarcoma, malignant fibrous histocytoma, melanoma, metastatic spindle cell carcinoma and others. Immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy are necessary for a correct diagnosis.

OBJECTIVETo compare clinical effects between plaster fixation and cannulated screw for the treatment of Jones fracture.
METHODSFrom 2006 to 2010, 41 patients with Jones fractures were divided into 2 groups. In Group A, there were 14 males and 8 females, ranging in age from 21 to 62 years, with an average of (32.3 +/- 8.7) years; the course of disease ranged from 2 h to 3 d; the patients in Group A were treated with plaster fixation. In Group B, there were 9 males and 10 females, ranging in age from 24 to 59 years, with an average of (28.8 +/- 7.9) years; the course of disease ranged from 0.5 h to 2 d; the patients in Group B were treated with cannulated screw fixation. The patients in two groups were followed up from a long time and the long-term effects were studied.
RESULTSAll the 41 patients were followed up, from 3 months to 2.5 years, with a mean of 11.3 months. All the patients in both groups were healed. The patients in Group B got postoperative wound healing with A degree at the first stage without complications. In accordance with the Maryland Foot Score, the therapeutic effect in Group B was better than that of Group A. The healing time in Group B was shorter than that of Group A.
CONCLUSIONPercutaneous minimally invasive treatment with micro-cannulated screw is an ideal method for the treatment of the Jones fracture.
