1.The essence of Professor Wu Lian-Zhong's acupuncture manipulation.

The painless needle insertion technique, summarized by Professor WU Lian-zhong during his decades of acupuncture clinical practice is introduced in this article, which is characterized as soft, flexible, fast, plucking and activating antipathogenic qi. The Sancai (three layers) lifting and thrusting manipulation technique is adopted by Professor WU for getting the qi sensation. And features of 10 kinds of needling sensation such as soreness, numbness, heaviness, distension, pain, cold, hot, radiation, jumping and contracture are summarized. Finger force, amplitude, speed and time length are also taken as the basis of reinforcing and reducing manipulations. Moreover, examples are also given to explain the needling technique on some specific points which further embodies Professor WU's unique experiences and understandings on acupuncture.

2.Preparation of recombinant PTD-HSP27 and verification of its ability to penetrate the cell membrane of human lens epithelial cells and rabbit cor-nea

AIM: To construct the prokaryotic expression system containing protein transduction domain (PTD) with heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) in order to prepare and purify the recombinant protein , and to verify whether the recombinant protein PTD-HSP27 has the ability to penetrate the human lens epithelial cell ( HLEC) membrane and the rabbit cornea.METHODS:The plasmid pKYB-PTD-HSPB1-6His was constructed by the technique of overlap extension PCR.The plasmid was transformed and PTD-HSP27 was purified through nickel affinity chromatography column and identi-fied by Western blotting.PTD-HSP27-6His was labeled with the fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC).The penetrating ability of PTD-HSP27 into HLECs and rabbit cornea was tested .RESULTS:The recombinant PTD-HSP27 plasmid was success-fully cloned and effectively expressed .The correctness of the recombinant protein PTD-HSP27 was demonstrated .Fluores-cence microscopic examination showed that PTD-HSP27-FITC was internalized by HLECs .Fluorescent labeled PTD-HSP27 was then observed in the rabbit aqueous humor .CONCLUSION:The recombined gene PTD-HSPB1 was constructed by o-verlap extension PCR technique and the PTD-HSP27 fusion protein was prepared and purified by nickel affinity chromatog-raphy column.Using the technique of PTD-fusion protein, HSP27 was transduced into HLECs and passed through the cor-nea .
3.Clinical analysis of primary percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with acute myocardial infarction

Objective To report the clinical effect of primary percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI).Methods A retrospective study was accomplished on the clinical data of 13 AMI patients who underwent PCI from March 2004 to April 2006.Results The infarct-related artery (IRA)was successfully recanalized by primary PCI for 12 AMI patients,without major complications occurred in these cases during hospitalization.Conclusion Primary PCI should be firstly chosen for treatment of AMI in the hospitals which could carry out PCI.
4.Clinical observation on treatment of diabetic foot by integrative Chinese and Western Medicine.

OBJECTIVETo observe the efficacy of integrative Chinese and western medicine (ICWM) in treating diabetic foot.
METHODSSixty-three patients were randomly divided into the treated group (n = 33) and the control group (n = 30). Both groups were treated by same baseline treatment with vasodilator, anti-agglutination agents and external treatment, to the treated group, Chinese drugs were given additionally according to the Syndrome Differentiation.
RESULTSIn the treated group, the treatment showed markedly effective in 12 patients, effective in 18 and ineffective in 3, the total effective rate being 90.0%, while in the control group, the corresponding numbers were 9, 14, 7 and 76.7%, comparison between the two groups showed significant difference (chi 2 = 15.8, P < 0.05). The case number of Grade II, III and IV in the treated group reduced, and those recovered to Grade 0 increased, as compared with those in the control group, the difference was significant (P < 0.05). Patients with healing of ulcerative wound and fresh wound granulation in the treated group, as compared with those in the control group, the difference was significant (P < 0.05). Levels of fasting blood glucose and blood glucose 2 hrs after meal were all improved in both groups, which showed significant difference as compared with those before treatment (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe efficacy of ICWM treatment in treating diabetic foot was better than the treatment of western medicine alone.

5.Analysis of photosynthetic characteristics and its influencing factors of medicinal plant Mirabilis himalaica.

To study photosynthetic characteristics and its influencing factors in leaves of medicinal plant Mirabilis himalaica, and provide an evidence for guiding artificial planting and improving the quantity. The light-response and diurnal photosynthesis course of leaves at the booting stages of 1-3 year old M. himalaica were measured with LI-6400 system. The Results showed that the light response curves were fitted well by non rectangle hyperbola equation (R2 > or = 0.98). The values of the maximum photosynthetic rate (Pmax) and light use efficiency of three-year old M. himalaica leaves were higher than those of 1-2 year old individuals. The diurnal variation of net photosynthetic rate (Pn) and stomatal conductance (Gs) of 2-3 year old M. himalaica were typical double-peak curves determinately regulated by stomatal conductance. However, transpiration rate (Tr) of 1-3 year old plants leaves were single-peak curve, which was self-protection of harm reduction caused by the higher temperature at noontime. Correlation analysis showed that the changes between photosynthetic active radiation (PFD), air temperature (T ) and Pn, were significant positive related. Therefore, M. himalaica is a typical sun plant, which should be planted under the sufficient sunshine field and prolong the growing ages suitably in order to improve the yield.

6.Cerebral state index the in monitoring and evaluating the induction of anesthesia with target-controlled infusion of propofol in adults.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the accuracy of cerebral state index (CSI) as an indicator of anesthesia depth in patients in the induction of anesthesia with target-controlled infusion of propofol.
METHODS:
Forty ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) I approximately II patients scheduled for an operation under general anesthesia were anesthetized with target-controlled infusion of propofol. Target plasma concentration was 0. 5 mg/L at the beginning, and increased by 0. 5 mg/L every 5 minutes, till 5 minutes after the level of MOAA/S (modified observer's assessment of alertness/sedation) was 0. The CSI, mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), MOAA/S level, and the effect-site concentration of propofol were recorded.
RESULTS:
(1) CSI values declined with the decrease of MOAA/S levels. CSI values were statistically different between level 0 and 1, level 1 and 2, level 3 and 4, level 4 and 5 of MOAA/S (P < 0.05). The difference of MAP had statistical significance between level 3 and level 2 of MOAA/S (P < 0.05). HR values had no statistical difference between the two levels of MOAA/S (P > 0.05). (2) The spearman rank correlation co-efficients between CSI, MAP, HR and the level of MOAA/S were 0.929, 0.421, and 0.085, respectively. The prediction probabilities (Pk) to differentiate different levels of MOAA/S for CSI, MAP, and HR were 0.94, 0.67, and 0.54, respectively. (3) There was linear regression relationship between CSI and the effect-site concentration of propofol (the coefficient of determination R2 was 0. 833, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSION
During the induction of patients with target-controlled infusion of propofol, the CSI is accurate as an indicator of awakeness and different levels of consciousness after anesthesia, and can reliably predict the anesthesia depth.

7.Clinical evaluation of dopamine agonists as an adjunct to levodopa and benserazide for Parkinson's disease

Objective To evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability ofdopamine agonists (pramipexole or piribedil) in the treatment of patients with Parkinson' disease (PD) as an adjunct to levodupa and benserazide. Methods Included in the present study were 40 PD patients who received pramipexole or piribedil as an adjunct to levodopa and benserazide for 12 weeks in our institute. They were divided into a Madopa + pramipexole group (n=20) and a Madopa + piribedil group (n=20)according to the therapeutic drugs they received. The efficacy of dopamine agonist was assessed by the UTDRS score. The safety and tolerability were assessed on the basis of adverse events and blood pressure. Results After respective administration of pramipexole and piribedil for 12 weeks, the UPDRS Ⅰ -Ⅳ scores in the 2 groups were significantly reduced (P<0.05).The average UPDRS-Ⅰ score improved from 2.85±2.41 to 1.2±l.64 points in the pramipexole group and from 2.8+1.28 to 1.85±1.35points in the piribedil group, with significant differences (P<0.05). The average UPDRS-Ⅳ score improved respectively from 1.85±2.60 to 0.5±0.83 in the pramipexole group and from 1.75±1.74 to 0.75±0.91 in the piribedil,as compared with base-line and week 12,showing superiority ofpramipexole over piribedil in these aspects.The total clinical efficacy was 80% in the pramipexole group and 75% in the piribedil group,with no significant difference between the 2 groups (P>0.05).No significant difference was found between the pramipexole and piribedil groups in terms of adverse events (55% versus 70%)(P>0.05). Conclusions Pramipexole or piribedil is effective and well-tolerated in the treatment of patients with Parkinson's disease as an adjunct to levodopa and benserazide,at least with short-term use.Pramipexole may be superior to piribedil in terms of improvement of complications in psychiatrics,behavior,emotion and motion of the PD patients.
8.Original plant identification of Dai nationality herb "Daibaijie".

OBJECTIVETo identify the original plant of "Daibaijie", commonly used Dai herb.
METHODThe literature review, morphology and anatomy, pharmacognosy, molecular biology, chemistry were used to analysis.
RESULTDaibaijie's historical scientific name, Dregea sinensis Hemsl., was mistakenly given "Daibaijie" and D. sinensis have significant differences from the distribution, morphology and anatomy, pharmacognosy, molecular biology and chemical composition. "Daibaijie" matches with the characteristics of Marsdenia tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon in Flora of China in English.
CONCLUSIONDaibaijie's original plant is M. tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon. The description and illustration of M. tenacissima (Roxb.) Moon in Flora of China in China are wrong. The illustration of M. tenacissima in Flora of China in English is wrong too.

9.Endovascular therapy for complex subclavian artery occlusive diseases

Objective To discuss the key points of endovascular therapy for complex subclavian artery occlusive diseases. Methods During the period from January 2012 to December 2013, a total of 92 patients with complex subclavian artery occlusive disease were admitted to Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. The clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. The features of the lesions, the success rate of endovascular therapy, the use of combined approaches, the relief of symptoms after treatment, etc. were evaluated. Results The complex subclavian artery occlusive diseases could be divided into three types. Type Ⅰ: long segment of the left subclavian artery was occluded; type Ⅱ: ostial stenosis or occlusion of the right subclavian artery; and type Ⅲ: subclavian artery stenosis or occlusion was associated with the ostial disorder of the vertebral artery, or the opening of vertebral artery was affected by the subclavian artery stenosis or occlusion. The technical success rate was 82.6%. Combination use of femoral artery and brachial artery approach was employed in 27.2% of patients, which had improved the technical success rate. After the treatment the symptom improvement rate was 81.6%. Conclusion Upper limb artery approach can improve the re-canalization rate of left subclavian artery with long segment occlusion, and can ensure the accurate positioning of stent at the site of right subclavian artery opening. During the procedure of endovascular intervention for subclavian artery occlusion disease, attention should be paid to the protection of the vertebral artery.
10.Influence of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on inflammation-related parameters in lung tissue of rats with severe scald.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 PUFA) on inflammation in lung tissue of rats with severe scald and its mechanism.
METHODSSeventy-two adult SD rats were divided into sham scald group (SS, n = 8), treatment group 1 (T1, n = 32), treatment group 2 (T2, n = 32) according to the random number table. Rats in T1 group and T2 group were inflicted with 30% TBSA full-thickness scald, and then they were respectively injected with 100 g/L omega-3 PUFA (1 mL/kg) and 200 g/L long-chain fatty acid (2 mL/kg) via tail vein within 5 minutes after burn. The above two fatty acids with equivalent calories were continuously injected for 10 days (once a day). On post burn day (PBD) 1, 4, 7, and 10, serum level of TNF-alpha and level of macrophage inflammatory protein 1alpha (MIP-lalpha) in lung homogenate of T1 and T2 groups were detected, the levels of NF-kappaBp65 and macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in lung tissue of T1 and T2 groups were observed with immunohistochemical staining (recorded as score). Above-mentioned parameters were also determined in SS group. Data were processed with t test.
RESULTSThe levels of 4 parameters in T1 and T2 groups on PBD 1, 4, 7, 10 were higher than those in SS group (with t values from 3.411 to 8.782, P values all below 0.01), and those in T1 group on PBD 4, 7, 10 were lower than those in T2 group (with t values from 2. 321 to 2.785, P values all below 0.05). The serum level of TNF-alpha and levels of MIP-1alpha, NF-kappaBp65, and MIF in lung tissue in SS group was respectively (0.96 +/- 0.32) ng/mL, (76 +/- 16) pg/mL, 0.24 +/- 0.03, 1.31 +/- 0.03, and those in T1 and T2 groups all peaked on PBD 7 [(2.43 +/- 0.32) ng/mL, (210 +/- 56) pg/mL, 4.23 +/- 2.15, 4.69 +/- 1.83; (3.15 +/- 0.54) ng/mL, (274 +/- 64) pg/mL, 5.15 +/- 2.31, 5.37 +/- 2.16].
CONCLUSIONSOmega-3 PUFA can effectively reduce serum level of TNF-alpha and levels of MIP-1alpha, NF-kappaBp65, and MIF in lung tissue of rats with severe scald, showing that it has a protective effect against injury of lung tissue.
