1.Effects of Early Activities on Duration and Expenditure of Hospitalization and Activities of Daily Living of Patients with Myocardial Infarction
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2006;12(6):542-543
ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of early activities after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) on duration and expenditure of hospitalization and activities of daily living (ADL) of patients.Methods68 AMI inpatients without complications were divided into the early activity group (33 cases) and control group (35 cases). Patients of the early activity group started early activity training by the bed from the 2nd day after admission, and those of the control group from the 10th day. One week before discharge, ADL of all patients were assessed with Barthel index (BI), and duration and expenditure of hospitalization of two groups were compared.ResultsThe average duration and expenditure of hospitalization in the early activity group were obviously lower than those in the control group (P<0.05~0.01), but the total scores of ADL and the scores of most items at discharge were markedly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05~0.01).ConclusionEarly activity training by the bed can obviously shorten the duration of hospitalization, reduce the medical cost and improve the ADL of AMI patients.

Journal of International Oncology 2011;38(5):358-361
In recent years, the theory of cancer stem cells has provided a new perspective on the treatment of cancers including breast cancer. The accurate sorting of breast cancer stem cells is critical. The sorting procedure is consist of 4 steps: isolation of side population, serum-free suspension culture, determination of specific cell surface markers and of the activity of aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 ( ALDH1 ) enzymatic through the ALDEFLUOR assay. Some studies choose drug resistance as an additional method for sorting cancer stem cells because of the enrichment of cancer stem cells after chemotherapy . The controversy about the sorting outcome of breast cancer stem cell mainly focus on molecular markers like CD44+ CD24- and ALDH1+ . The problem needed to be settled is to identify which sorting method and markers are appropriate.

Objective:To investigate the effects of the different static compressive stress on the proliferation and apoptosis of condylar chondrocytes in vitro. Methods: 0, 12, 24, 36 kPa static compressive stress were applied to the third passage of mandibular condylar chondrocytes for 1 hour respectively. The changes of proliferation and apoptosis of condylar chondrocytes were evaluated by flow cytometry analysis. Results: The index of proliferation and apoptosis of cells decreased with the magnitude value of static compressive stress except 24 kPa group. The most significant decrease of proliferative index and apoptosis index was found in 36 kPa group and 12 kPa group respectively. Conclusion: There might be some corelationships between magnitude of static compressive stress and the proliferation and apoptosis of condylar chondrocytes.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the level of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)? and the clinical features of multiple sclerosis(MS). Methods The TNF? level of 58 MS patients (MS group) was determined by means of sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The correlative analysis between level of TNF? and the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), the clinical data (including the duration of disease, the number of relapses and the age of onset) were take in MS patients. Results (1)TNF? level was significantly increased in MS acute stage compared with those in MS remission stage and healthy controls (P

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of loop electrosurgical excision procedure(LEEP) for the management of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) grade Ⅱ. Methods A total of 28 patients were pathologically diagnosed as having CIN grade Ⅱ by colposcopic cervical biopsy.High-risk human papillomavirus(HPV) DNA testing showed positive results in 96.4% of the patients(27/28).The procedure was conducted under surface anesthesia.A loop electrode was used to cut through the cervical tissues, and then a square-shaped electrode or a small-sized loop electrode was utilized to complete the resection of lesions, including parts of the cervical canal. All the patients were followed postoperatively. Results The intraoperative blood loss was 0~20 ml,and the operation time was 5~10 min.Out of the 28 patients, postoperative abnormal vaginal bleeding was found in 3 patients. No other complications occurred. The resected tissues showed no obvious charring changes. The lesions of CIN completely disappeared in 15 patients(53.6%),subsided to grade Ⅰ in 5 patients, remained in grade Ⅱ in 5 patients, and progressed to grade Ⅲ in 3 patients.Follow-up examinations in the 28 patients for 6~24 months(mean,16 months) found no residual lesions or recurrence. The high-risk HPV DNA findings turned negative in 23 patients. Conclusions LEEP is a safe and effective procedure for the treatment of CIN grade Ⅱ,with advantages of little invasion, simplicity of performance, and no need of hospitalization.

Objective To investigate the expression of cytokeratin 34βE12 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC),and its mechanism of action in the process of occurrence and development of an ESCC.Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to analyze the expression of cytokeratin 34βE12 in 252 ESCC patients,66 patients with esophageal carcinoma in situ, and 106 patients with adjacent normal esophageal mucosa before the relationship between its expression and biological behavior was evaluated on the basis of complete clinical information. In addition,Western blotting was used to determine the expression of cytokeratin 34βE12 in 60 patients with esophageal cancer and adjacent normal esophageal tissues. Results (1)The positive rate of caveolin-1 in ESCC,carcinoma in situ, and adjacent normal tissues was 85.7%,54.5%,and 25.7%,respectively.The difference between them was statistically significant (P <0.01).(2)The positive rate of cytokeratin 34βE12 in stages Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ of ESCC was 76.5%,84.7%,and 96.3%,respectively.The expression intensity of cytokeratin 34βE12 in carcinoma tissue was gradually increased with the advance of clinical stages with a statistically significant difference (P =0.038).The positive rate of cytokeratin 34βE12 with group of lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than those without lymph node metastasis (P < 0.01).(3)Western blotting results further confirmed that the expression of cytokeratin 34βE12 in ESCC was significantly higher than that in adjacent normal esophageal tissue (P <0.01).Conclusions The high expression of caveolin-1 might be involved in the occurrence and development of esophageal cancer. The expression of cytokeratin 34βE12 was correlated with the clinical stage of esophageal cancer.cytokeratin 34βE12 was a potential therapeutic target and a valuable prognostic indicator of esophageal cancer progression.

ObjectiveTo observe the status and related factors of depression symptoms in elders.MethodsRandomized multi-stage sampling method was used to select subjects.504 elders ( aged ≥65 years) in Jining were investigated and assessed by using the scales of Geriatric Depression Scale15 ( GDS-15 ),Katz-activity of daily liying (Katz-ADL) and Lawton instrumental ADL (IADL).ResultsThe GDS scores of males (2.24 ±2.12 ) were significantly lower than that of females ( 3.35 ± 3.49) ( t '=4.236,P < 0.01 ).There were significant differences in GDS scores among different subgroups of age, single or not, physical activity, sleep quality,self-reported health, living condition, economic status and lonely feeling.GDS scores were significantly correlated to lonely feeling,IADL,living condition, economic status,self-reported health and age (F =27.47,P < 0.001 ; R2 =0.372,R'2 =0.358 ),with the total contribution of 35.8%.ConclusionAmong elders, the main factors influencing depression symptoms are lonely feeling,IADL,female, health condition, economic condition and single, respectively.Enhancing IADL of elders can contribute to reduce the risk factors of depression.
