Objective To study the relation between changed atrial load and atrial septal motion. Methods Forty one patients with valve diseases,7 patients with congenital heart diseases, and 12 normal subjects were involved. Two dimensional image was obtained by transesophageal echocardiography. The thickness, wave time and velocity were showed during atrial septal motion by omni directional M mode echocardiography (OME).Results With increase of the volume load and pressure load in the atrium, the atrial septal thickness increased, and the velocity of atrial septal motion increased or reduced. Conclusions OME shows that the thickness and velocity of atrial septal motion relates with condition of atrial load.

Objective To investigate the effect of the serum obtained from rat with hepatopuimonary syndrome (HPS) on Akt mRNA and protein expression in rat pulmonary microvascular endotheliai cells (PMVECs) and the role of Akt signaling pathway in the proliferation of PMVECs in the HPS. Methods Healthy 3-4-month-old SD rats of both sexes were used in this study. HPS was produced by chronic ligation of common bile duct according to the method described by Fallon. liver cirrhosis and pulmonary microvascular proliferation were verified by microscopic examination of the liver and lung tissue 2 weeks after bile duct ligation. Serum was obtained from blood taken from aorta of HPS rats. Primary PMVECs were cultured and randomly divided into 2 groups: control group and HPS group. In HPS group serum was added to cultured PMVECs (final concentration was 10%) and incubated. Akt mRNA and protein expression was determined at 24, 48 and 72 h of incubation by RT-PCR and Western blot. The proliferation of PMVECs was detected by MTT and ~3H-TdR. Results The proliferation of PMVECs was significantly enhanced and the expression of Akt mRNA and protein was significantly increased in HPS group as compared with control group. Conclusion The Akt signaling pathway might play an important role in proliferation of PMVECs in the HPS.

ObjectiveTo investigate the changes in the expression of transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1) during differentiation of pulmonary microvascular endothelial ceils (PMVECs) into smooth muscle cells in rats with hepato-pulmonary syndrome (HPS).MethodsPrimary PMVECs were harvested from healthy adult SD rats of both sexes aged 3-4 months and inoculated in low-glucose DMEM culture medium (1(6/cm2 ) and randomly divided into 2 groups ( n =24 dishes each):control group ( group C) and HPS group.HPS was produced by chronic ligation of common bile duct.In group C serum obtained from normal rats was added to PMVECs,while in HPS group serum obtained from rats with HPS was added. The final concentration of serum was 10%.After being incubated for 24,48 and 72 h,the expression of SM-MHC,SM-α-actin and calponin protein and TGF-β1 mRNA and protein in PMVECs was determined by RT-PCR and Western blot analysis.ResultsThe expression of SMMHC,SM-α-actin and calponin protein.was positive in HPS group whereas the expression of SM-α-actin and calponin protein was negative and the expression of SM-MHC protein was barely detectable in group C.The expression of SM-MHC,TGF-β1 mRNA and protein was significantly higher in HPS group than in group C.The expression of SM-MHC,SM-α-actin and calponin protein and TGF-β1 mRNA and protein was increasing with duration of incubation from T1 to T3 in group HPS.ConclusionTGF-β1 plays an important role in the myogenic differentiation of PMVECs in rats with HPS.

Objective To evaluate the feasibility and efficiency of laparoscopic-guided radiofrequency ablation on advanced prostate cancer. Methods From March 2003 to December 2008,a total of 6 previous prostate cancer patients who had been diagnosed with pathological results were treated by laparoscopic-guided radiofrequency ablation. All patients underwent pre-and post-operative IPSS,serum PSA,MRI and normal blood biochemistry examination. The treatment outcome,surgery-related complications were also recorded. Results All operations were successfully completed,no serious intra-and post-operative complications happened.Although there was no significant difference of IPSS between pre-operative [ ( 19.05 + 4.28 ) scores ] and 1 month after operation [ ( 19.87 + 5.72) scores ],but there were significantly decreased in 3 months [ (9.45 ± 2.03 ) scores ] and 6 months [ (6.18 + 1.79) scores ] after operation (P <0.05).Also being followed up to 6 months after operation, the serum PSA was significantly decreased compared with the pre-operative value [from(24.80 ± 14.56) μ g/L reduced to( 13.79 ± 7.76) μ g/L](P<0.05).Conclusion Laparoscopic-guided radiofrequency ablation on advanced prostate cancer is safe and feasible, and can be used as an effective treatment in selective cases.

Objective To investigate the role of annexin A1 (ANXA1) in human pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) proliferation induced by hypoxia. Methods Primary cultured human PASMCs were randomly divided into 5 groups ( n =60 each):normal oxygen group (group N) and hypoxia 2,8,12 and 24 h groups(groups H1-4).Group N was treated with 21% O2 for 24 h,and groups H1-4 was treated with 3% O2 for 2,8,12 and 24 h respectively.ANXA1 mRNA and protein expression was determined by RT-PCR and Western blot.Proliferation of PASMCs were determined by MTT and 3 H-TdR methods. Results ANXA1 mRNA and protein expression was down-regulated,proliferation of PASMCs was enhanced in groups H1-4 as compared with group N (P < 0.05).ANXA1 mRNA and protein expression was down-regulated gradually, proliferation of PASMCs was enhanced gradually in groups H1-4 ( P < 0.05 ).Conclusion The expression of ANXA1 is down-regulated in human PASMCs during hypoxia treatment, which might be the mechanism of human PASMCs proliferation induced by hypoxia.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical effects of Dynesys system for the treatment of multiple segment lumbar degenerative disease.
METHODSA total of 28 patients with lumbar degenerative disc disease treated with Dynesys system from December 2008 to May 2011 were retrospectively reviewed. There were 16 males and 12 females, aged from 27 to 75 years old with an average of 49.1 years. Thirteen patients with multiple segmental lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion, including L3-L5 in 7 cases, L2-L4 in 1 case and L4-S1 in 5 cases. Fifteen patients with multiple segmental lumbar spinal stenosis, including L3-L5 in 10 cases, L4-L5 in 4 cases and L2-S1 in 1 case. The symptoms of lumbago and (or) intermittent claudication in all patients were treated with conservative treatments for more than 6 months and these methods did not work. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to analyze the lumbar and leg pain, imaging data were used to measure the intervertebral space height and intervertebral motion of fixed segment and upper adjacent segment, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was used to evaluate the clinical effect.
RESULTSAll operations were successful and the patients were followed up from 38 to 65 months with an average 50.6 months. At final follow-up, ODI and VAS of the low back pain and leg pain were (25.10±6.52)%, (1.25±0.70) points and (1.29±0.89) points, respectively and were decreased compared with preoperative (P<0.05). Postoperative intervertebral space heights were increased and intervertebral motions were decreased in fixed segment compared with preoperative (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in intervertebral space heights and intervertebral motions of upper adjacent segment between preoperative and postoperative (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONDynesys system may obtain long-term clinical curative effect in treating multiple lumbar degenerative disease. It can partially preserve the intervertebral motions of the fixed segments, have little effect on adjacent segments. The long-term clinical effect of Dynesys still need longer time follow-up observation.
