Periodontitis is a chronic infective disease characterized as the destruction of the supporting tissues of the teeth. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, which are ideal adult stem cells for the regeneration of supporting tissues, may play important roles in restoring the structure and function of the periodontium and in promoting the treatment of periodontal disease. As a consequence, the characteristics, especially osteogenic differentiation mechanism, of these stem cells have been extensively investigated. The regulation of the physiological behavior of these stem cells is associated with BMAL1 gene. This gene is a potential treatment target for periodontal disease, although the specific mechanism remains inconclusive. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of BMAL1 gene and its ability to regulate the osteogenic differentiation of stem cells.

Objective To study the sensitivity and specificity of oligoclonal bands (OCBs) and intrathecal IgG synthesis rate (IgG Syn) for diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the correlation between qualitative and quantitative indices.Methods Albumin and IgG concentrations in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum from 30 patients with MS, 40 with other nervous system inflammatory diseases (NID) and 22 with nervous system noninflammatory diseases (NNID) were determined by rate nephelometry method. OCBs in the CSF were detected using isoelectric focusing combined with silver staining, and IgG Syn was calculated. Objective To explore economic valuation of the minimally invasive esophagectomy.Methods The cases undergone esophagectomy were studied retrospectively.Monofactorial analysis was done to evaluate the impact of various factors on the overall hospitalization costs.The correlated factors then were used as independent variables to carry out the multiple linear regression aimed at the hospitalization costs.Results The results of monofactorial analysis showed that the accompanying diseases,days during hospitalization,modes of esophagectomy,postoperative complications were correlated factors of the overall hospitalization costs.According to the multiple linear regression,it were sorted based on descending order duing to its effect of largenning the hospitalization costs:postoperative complications (β =0.439,P =0.000),days during hospitalization (β =0.397,P =0.000),accompanying diseases(β =0.257,P =0.000),modes of esophagectomy(β =0.132,P =0.000).The expenses caused immediately by the operations were statistically more of the minimally invasive surgery than that of the open procedures whatever the numerous or proportion of the overall costs (P =0.000).Conclusion Combined thoracoscopic and laparoscopic esophagectomy was more expensive than open operation.Nevertheless,impact of the other factors,such as postoperative complications,were more significant than that of the different procedure.h was a strategy to minimally invasive osophagectomy that hospitalization costs could be reduced by means of controlling complications and diminishing hospitalization days.

Objective To explore the value of laparoscopic ovarian-conserving restoration for ovarian cyst torsion . Methods A total of 62 cases of ovarian cyst torsion , 12 of which were combined with pregnancy , between January 2007 and June 2012 were retrospectively analysed .The surgical management involved laparoscopic high ligation of ovary blood vessels , restoration of the ovary, and resection of ovarian cysts . Results All the 62 cases of laparoscopic restoration were successfully performed with ovarian reservation.The cysts twisted for 180°~1080°, including 19 cases of <360°, 21 cases of 360°~720°, and 22 cases of >720°.The cysts were coloured purple black in 26 cases, purple or normal in 36 cases.The operation time was (57 ±23) min, the intraoperative blood loss was 5-130 ml (mean, 50.6 ml), and anal exsufflation time was (24 ±13) hours.No embolism, infection, and abortion occurred during post-operation.The level of estrogen recovered to normal in 1-3 months postoperatively .Ovulation at the procedure side was found in 43 cases in 6-24 months. Conclusions Laparoscopic ovarian-conserving surgery is a safe procedure for ovarian cyst pedicle torsion .High ligation of ovarian blood vessles and resection of ovarian cysts can not only avoid the possibility of thrombosis but also preserve the ovarian functions .The shortage of this operation is complicated to perform .

Objective To explore the methods of extraction, isolation, purification, and biological activities of ray cartilage glycosaminoglycans (RCG). Methods RCG was purified by guanidine hydrochlorid extraction, acetone fractional precipitation, ultrafiltration, and Sephadex column chromatography. The purity and molecular mass of RCG were measured by means of HPLC. The model of mouse with Lewis lung carcinoma was made, the experimental mice were randomly divided into normal saline group, RCG (500, 250, and 125 mg/kg) groups, and CTX (60 mg/kg) group. Tumor growth states of mice were observed, tumor growth curve was described, inhibitory rates of primary tumor and number of lung metastasis focus were measured; microvessel density (MVD) was quantitated by immunohistochemistry using monoclonal antibodies of CD31; the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA was determined with RT-PCR. Results Using HPLC, a single glycosaminoglycans with molecular mass 9.7?104 was collected and its purity exceeded ninty-nine percent. Tumor growth curves in RCG groups were smooth compared with saline group. There were significant differences of inhibitory rates of primary tumor, number of lung metastasis focus and MVD between RCG groups and saline group. VEGF mRNA expression levels in RCG groups were reduced significantly compared with saline group. Conclusion RCG could effectively inhibit the growth and metastasis of primary Lewis lung carcinoma in C57BL/6 mouse and angiogenesis.

Objective To evaluate CT in the diagnosis of small bowel obstruction in children. Methods Thirty one cases with small bowel obstruction manifestations on CT and plain radiograph were analysed. The age ranged from 9 months to 14 years, male 17 cases, female 14 cases. There were 29 acute small bowel obstructions, and 2 chronic obstruction. Seven cases had history of previous abdominal operation. Results Corred diagnosis was made in 19 cases and 29 cases respectively by plain film and CT. The accurate etiologic diagnosis could be made by CT in 18 cases, including small bowell stone 4 cases, intussusception, 5 localized infection and adhesion 6 intraluminal bowel duplication, 1 congenital umbilical hernia, congenital malrotation of the intestine 1 case.Combined with history of abdominal operation the accurate CT etiologic diagnosis increased to 25 cases.There were 4 CT false negative cases and 2 plain film false negative cases. Conclusion The CT is obviously superior to plain radiograph in detecting strangulation and gas in bowel wall,better dilineating the transitional segment of bowel stenosis thereby demonstrating the case of obstruction which is very helpful for clinical management.

cases of focal nodular heperplasia of the liver were studied with HE staining and immunohistochemistry. The patient population was composed of 12 males and 5 females, aged 13 to 71 years. The main symptom was abdomimal pain or discomfort. 9 patients were misdiagnosed as hepatic cell carcinoma (HCC) before operation. Histologically, 14 cases were of classical form, and 2 cases were of telangiectatic form, and 1 case mixed form. The classical form of FNH was defined by the presence of 4 characteristic histologic features: nodular central stellate scar, abnormal nodular architecture, malformed vessels, and cholangiolar proliferation. The causes of focal nodular hyperplasia of the liver were briefly discussed.

ObjectiveTo analyze the protective effects of heat-shock response on the retinae of the rats after retinal ischemic reperfusion injury. MethodTwenty Wistar rats (20 eyes) were divided into 4 groups: intracameral perfusion group (group P), intracameral perfusion after quercetin injection group (group P+Q), intracameral perfusion after heat shock group (group P+H), and intracameral perfusion after quercetin injection and heat shock group (group P+Q+H). According to the standard program established by International Society for Clinical Visual Electrophysiology, we recorded the results of the dark-adapted electroretinogram (D-ERG),oscillatory potentials (OPs),and light-adapted ERG (L-ERG) of the rats with intraocular hypertension after induced by heat shock response. The expressions of HSP 70 of the rats in all groups were observed by Western blotting.ResultsThe expression of HSP 70 of the rats in group P+H was the highest in all groups, but the expressions of HSP70 in group P+Q and P+Q+H were inhibited significantly. The amplitudes of a and b wave of ERG and O 2 wave of OPs decreased, and the delitescence of them were delayed significantly in rats after intracameral perfusion.
