BACKGROUND: The effect of cognitive therapy on psychological stress is not remarkable and optimal. Some psychocatharsis through physical activities cannot be accepted by many clients.OBJECTIVE: To explore an effective method to treat and relieve psychological stress.DESIGN: A controlled (the blank control and the self-control) observation study and single blind trial.SETTING: Department of Preventive Medicine, Medical College of Jinagsu University.PARTICIPANTS: Clients who suffered from emotional suppression or nervous stress would be tested with "psychological stress test". Forty clients, with scores over 5, were selected as the subjects. They were randomly divided into two groups matching of ages and scores: control group (n=20) and experimental group (n=20).METHODS: Clients in the control group were treated with common cognitive therapy by means of talking, and those in the experimental group accepted a sing a song loudly therapy. The song named as Qinghai-Tibet Plateau was selected for the treatment. The clients were requested to sing the song loudly in order to release their stress and vent their repression. The psychologist used the language introduction by background music to make a client under a special kind of psychological situation and emotional state when the music was played for one to two times. Then the psychologist would turn up gradually the volume of sound to the maximum when the music was played for the third time. The volume from the VCD would overwhelm that from the client's voice in order to cover up the singer's shyness. The client sung the song of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau loudly for four to five times. The therapeutic room was required to have a blanch curtain. The sound insulation also was required. The soundscape of the loudspeakers should be wide. The power magnifier should be strong. The loudspeaker should be high fidelity. The questionnaire of psychological stress test was adopted in both groups before and after therapy respectively. It had 30 items for the self-diagnosis of symptoms. The client was diagnosed as a low stress if his or her score reached 5, 11-20 as sever stress, and above 21 as adaptability disorder.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Scores of stress level were observed before and after therapy in both groups.RESULTS: The scores in the control group before and after therapy were approximately the same (15.6±5.3 vs 14.7±4.8, t=1.739, P > 0.05). The scores in the experimental group after therapy was significantly lower than those before therapy (11.6±5.8 vs 15.5±6.1, t=9.863, P < 0.05). After therapy, the scores in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (11.6±5.8 vs 14.7±4.8, t=4.811, P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Sing a song loudly is an effective method that is easy to operate in treating psychological stress.

Aim To discuss the pathway of resveratrol for anti-acute myeloblastic leukemia. Methods Human acute myeloblastic leukemia cell Kasumi-1 was applied in this study. After different doses of Res treatment for different time, methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium(MTT)colorimetry was used to detect the cell proliferation.Furthermore, apoptosis and cell cycle were detected by flow cytometry.Western blot and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)were used to detect the expression levels of Bcl-2 and Bax for mRNA and protein. The activity of signal transducers and activators of transcription 3(STAT3)was detected by immunoblotting and Luciferase reporter gene assay. On the other hand, leukemia-bearing mice models were made to investigate the live situation, survival time and the activation of STAT3 by Western blot and immunohistochemical method. Results Resveratrol could suppress the proliferation of Kasumi-1, and induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. At the same time, the ratios of Bcl-2/Bax and phosphor-signal transducers and activators of transcription 3(p-STAT3)were decreased significantly. In vivo, resveratrol could prolong the life span of Kasumi-1-bearing mice and attenuate the activity of STAT3 in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusions Resveratrol is a natural occurring chemotherapeutic agent present in Chinese Herbals. The regulatory effect on signaling pathways involved in STAT3 by resveratrol may be associated with its anti-leukemia effect.

Objective To study the dynamic imaging changes of the uterine leiomyomas before and after uterine arterial embolization (UAE) treatment and to discuss its therapeutic mechanism. Methods Color Doppler senography and both plain and enhanced MR[scanning were performed in 45 patients with uterine leiomyomas before and after UAE. Plain CT scan was performed in all patients after UAE. All the patients were followed up for 3-16 months (average 10±3.5 months). Results In 41 of the total 45 cases, the color Doppler senography showed rich blood flow signals in leiomyomas and myometrium before UAE and no or less blood flow signals in both leiomyomas and myometrium on the first day after UAE. On the seventh day, the blood flow signal was still absent in leiomyomas while it was restored in myometrium, and the same phenomena remained in the first, the third and the twelfth month after UAE. In the other four eases, color Doppler sonography demonstrated blood flow signals inside leiomyomas on the seventh day after UAE and it remained till twelve months after embolization. The embolic agent (Lipiodol) was found in both leiomyomas and myometrium on CT scan for 45 cases on the first day of UAE. CT scan also showed the deposit of the Lipiodol in myometrium, but Lipiodol gradually vanished in leiomyomas at one, three and the twelve months after UAE. The enhancement was apparent in leiomyomas and myometrium on MRI scan in all 45 cases before UAE. The enhancement was found in the myometrium, but not in leiomyomas, on MRI scan in 39 cases 3 months after UAE. The other six cases demonstrated different degrees of enhancement in leinmyomas after embolization. In two cases the detachment of the leiomyomas were observed after embolization and the desquamating materials were pathologicallyproved to be necrotic tissue. The difference in the measuring data about leiomyoma volume between MPI and color Doppler sonography was of no statistical significance (P > 0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic mechanism of UAE for uterine leiomyomas is selectively embolizing the vascular bed of uterus, leading to subsequent necrosis of leiomyomas. The color Doppler sonography should be the fast choice for the dynamic imaging follow-up after UAE.

Aim To explore the inhibitory effects and immunoregulatory activity of the extract from Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker (EFP) on the growth of liver cancer H22 in mice. Methods The chemical composition of extract from Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker(EFP)was separated with water extraction methods. The tumor bearing mouse model was constructed by injecting tumor cells subcutaneously. The EFP was given to the mouse by oral and hypodermic injection to observe its antitumor activity and immunoregulatory activity in vivo. The antibody level of anti-H22 in serum was measured with ELISA methods. The weight, tumor weight, spleen index, liver index were noted, and series of enzymes, such as,MDA,SOD,GPT and GOT activity of mouse serum and liver were measured. Results The extracts from Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker markedly inhibited the proliferation of tumor H22.The EFP constituent purified might be the main antitumor active part of Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker as shown by antitumor test in vitro. After treatment with EFP,the general condition of the test mice was much better than that of control mice, with spleen index, liver index increasing more obviously, antibody level of anti-H22,and MDA,SOD,GPT and GOT activity increasing more, and tumor growing more slowly. Conclusion EFP may be the main antitumor active part of Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker. EFP also has antitumor effect in vivo.EFP can exert antitumor effect in vivo by enhancing antibody level of anti-H22 and the series enzymes to be related to immunity activity.
