Objective To analyze the reasons and mechanisms of stereoscopic function abnormality in elder patients after the cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation. Methods 150 cases with artificial lens implantation were randomly selected.Routine eye examinations were carried out and the associated refractive error and presbyopia were corrected.Bilateral simultaneous visual perception and fusion function were examined. The stereoscopic function was tested using "the stereoscopic function examination diagram"created by Yan Shao-ming.Ninety-seven patients who were found to have unrecover-ed or abnormal stereoscopic function were enrolled for analysis. Results In these 97 cases,53(54.6%)were found to have preexisting eye disorders that could affect visual acuity and binocular single vision before the operation.Macular problem was the most prevalent problem in this group.Twenty-seven(27.8%)patients had complicated with corneal astigmatism, after cataract, paralysing strabismus and diplopia as well as macular edema after the operation. In addition, the contralateral unoperated cataract in 17(17.5%)patients and post-operative anisometropia in 9(9.3%)patients were also the causes of stereoscopic function abnormality. There was no reason could be identified in 8 cases. Conclusions The pre-existing eye disorders before lenses implantation, complications of the operation, contralateral unoperated cataract and anisometropia are all the major factors that affect visual acuity recovery and bilateral stereoscopic function rehabilitation.

0.05). Conclusions The gap junction formed by CX43 should be an important role in switching and developing the epilepsy. The synthetic polypeptide corresponding to amino acid sequence of CX43 would be a kind of new type antiepileptic drug, which might have less side effects and more potent pertinency.

Objective To observe the clinical effect of modified Zhisou powder and Symbicort Turbuhaler simultaneously on patients with Cough Variant Asthma. Methods 120 patients with Cough Variant Asthma were randomly recurited into two groups. 60 patients in the treatment group were treated with modified Zhisou powder and Symbicort Turbuhaler; 60 patients in the control group were treated with Symbicort Turbuhaler. 4 weeks was a therapeutic course in both group. Results The markedly controlled rate (MCR) (clinical control+excenence)of the treatment group was 83.3%, obviously surpassed the control group (70.0%) (P<0.05); There was obvious improvement of cough, expectoration, breath lessness and throaty pruritus after the therapy in both groups, but it was much better in the treatment group than the control group(P<0.05). The pulmonary function was significantly improved after treatment in both groups(FEV1, FEV1% and PEF, P<0.05). The improvement showed significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05). There was obvious decrease of EOS, IL-5 and ECP in both groups. The decrease of ECP and IL-5 in the treatment group was greater than the control group(P<0.01). Conclusion The therapy of modified Zhisou powder and Symbicort Turbuhaler has advantage over pure western therapy.

Objective To study the effect of Chinese wild rice diet on lipid metabolism in rats. Method Forty four male SD rats were divided into 4 groups:control group, high lipid group, white rice-flour group and Chinese wild rice group. All groups were given different experimental diets for 8 w and body weights, serum TC, TG, HDL-C, high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), TNF-? and IL-6 were measured. Results The hyperlipidemic rat model was successfully induced. When compared with high lipid group and white rice-flour diet group, serum TG and TC contents were significantly decreased, and HDL-C significantly increased in the Chinese wild rice group. Moreover, Chinese wild rice group had lower contents of serum hs-CRP and TNF-? than those in high lipid group and white rice-flour group, but no effect on serum IL-6. Conclusion Chinese wild rice could improve lipid metabolism and low-grade inflammation of hyperlipidemic rats induced by high lipid diet.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2011;29(3):209-214
Background Light-induced retinal damage models vary as many influence factors, herein the modeling method is difficult to copy.It is necessary to establish the grading standardization of retinal damage after retinal light exposure. Objective This study was to improve the modeling method and establish a grading standardization for light-induced retinal damage in rat. Methods Twenty-four SPF 8-10 week-old male SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups and 6 eyes for each group. The rats were exposed to light intense of 5000 lx for 1,2,3 hours respectively in 3 groups, and other 6 rats served as the normal group.Full-field light exposure experiment was performed for each individual rat separately, and an annular illumination box was used tO ensure the experimental rat moving in a single direction and exposing the right eye in 5000 lx light surrounding during experimental duration.Ganzfeid electroretinogram(ERG)was recorded from the experimental rats at the fifth day after light exposure, and the animals were then sacrificed for histopathology observation to evaluate the retinal thickness change. All procedures which involved animals adhered to the ARVO Statement for the Use of Animals in Ophthalmic and Vision Research. Results After exposing to intensity light for 1,2,3 hours, the b-wave amplitudes of rod response, maximal mixed response, oscillatory potential in scotopic ERG as well as cone response,20 Hz flicker response of photopic ERG were significant declined as lapse of light exposure time(F=71.690,P=0.000;F=56.250,P=0.000;F=23.610,P=0.000:F=27.130,P=0.000;F=27.030,P=0.000)and lowed by 26.2%,52.5%,70.7%,24.4%,39.3%,58.1%respectively at the end of experiment.Meanwhile, the b-wave latencies of rod response, maximal mixed response in scotopic ERG as well as cone response of photopic ERG were evidently different among different groups (F=1.370,P=0.282;F:0.800,P=0.508;F=11.840,P=0.000;F=2.080,P=0.136).Light induced retinal damage located mainly at the temporal retina area. After intensity light exposure for 1,2,3 hours, the thickness of outer nuclear layer at the superior temporal retina attenuated by 11.3%,25.6%and 72.5%,respectively(P<0.05).A significant difference was seen in mean thickness of outer nuclear layer at superior temporal retina among different groups(F=410.27,P=0.000). Conclusion A standardized grading method for light-induced retinal damage is recommended. The continuous illumination in a intensity of 5000 Ix for 1,2,3 hours can induce the mild, moderate or severe retinal damage respectively at temporal retina.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the precise locations of the blood vessels and nerves surrounding the seminal vesicles (SV) in men and provide some anatomical evidence for SV-related minimally invasive surgery.
METHODSWe observed the courses and distribution of the blood vessels and nerves surrounding SVs and obtained the data for positioning the SV neuroplexes in 20 male pelvises.
RESULTSOne branch of the neuroplexes was distributed to the SVs bilaterally with the neurovascular bundles, (2.85 ± 0.18) cm from the median sulcus of the prostate (MSP), while another branch ran through the Denonvillier fascia behind the SV, (0.81 ± 0.06) cm from the MSP. The arterial SVs (ASV) originated from the inferior vesical artery and fell into 4 types, 55% going directly to the SVs as one branch, 15% running between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct as another branch, 25% downward as 2 branches to the SV and between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct respectively, and 5% as the other ASVs. The shortest distance from the ASV through the prostatic neuroplexus to the posterior SV was (1.08 ± 0.09) cm.
CONCLUSIONIn SV resection, neuroplexus injury can be reduced with a bilateral distance of < 2.85 cm and a posterior distance of < 0.81 cm from the MSP, and so can bleeding by vascular ligation between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct.
