Objective To investigate the effects of the traditional herb-epimedium on the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6) mRNA in bone of ovariectomized rat. Methods Forty female rats were randomly allocated into 4 groups, 10 in each: ovariectomized (OVX) group, sham operation group, OVX followed by epimedium (group 3)or nilestriol (group 4) for 3 months respectively. All rats were then sacrificed, and total RNA were directly isolated from their right tibia. Interleukin-6 mRNA expression was detected by relative semiquantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction technique. Lumbar bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by dual-energy X ray absorptiometry before sacrifice. Results The BMD of epimedium group was significantly higher than that in the OVX group ( P

Objective To observe the influence of early postoperative feeding in the healing of intestinal anastomosis in rabbits, and to clarify preliminarily the relationships between early postoperative feeding after gastrointestinal surgery and gastrointestinal anastomotic fistula formation and healing time in rabbits. Methods 48 rabbits were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, then they were treated with gastrointestinal anastomosis. The rabbits in experimental group were fed with liquid diet 24 h after operation, and the rabbits in control group were fed nothing after operation and supplied by total parenteral nutrition. Two rabbits of each group were selected for exploratory laparotomy on the 3rd,5th,7th,10th and 15th day after operation, and the healing rate of anastomosis, the anastomotic bursting pressure, the anastomotic breaking strength, and the hychoxyproline level of anastomosis were observed. Results The healing rate of anastomosis in control group was 91.6%(22/24), and the healing rate of anastomosis in experimental group was 95.8%(23/24),there was no significant difference between two groups(P>0.05).The anastomotic bursting pressures of the rabbits in two groups were decreased remarkably at the 72nd hour after operation, which was the lowest point, and they were increased remarkably on the 5th day after operation, but the anastomic bursting pressure in experimental group was a little lower than that in control group, and it reached the peak on the 7th day after operation in control group. On the 10th day after operation, the anastomic bursting pressure in control group was a little lower than that on the 7th day after operation, but the anastomic bursting pressure in experimental group reached the peak. There were no significant differences of anastomic bursting pressure at different time points between two groups(P>0.05).The anastomotic breaking strength had no significant difference between two groups at the 72nd hour after operation, both of them reached the lowest points, however the anastomtic breaking strengths in two groups were increased remarkably on the 10th day after operation, and reached the peaks.but there were no significant differences of anastomic breaking strength at different time points between two groups (P>0.05 ). The hychoxyproline level of anastomosis:in experimental group was a little lower than that in control group at the 72tnd hour after operation, and both of them reached the peaks on the 7th day after operation;but there were no significant differences of hychoxyproline levels of anastomosis at different time points between two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Early postoperative feeding can not cause the increase of anasmotic healing time and the incidence rate of gastrointestinal anastomotic fistula.

Self-adaptive interference canceller based on LMS algorithm is an excellent filter which can adjust system parameter automatically. With good robustness, it can be applied to every signal abstraction and data treatment, especially bioelectric signals. By this algorithm, both the power frequency interference and baseline shift, for example, the ones of ECG signals, can be successfully eliminated.

Objective To study the safety over the atlanto-odontoid joint of the cervical spine during oblique-pulling manipulation. Methods The contact stress of the atlanto-odontoid joint in physiologic unstable conditions with and without pulling-and-extending of seven cadaveric specimans of cervical spine were observed with a biomechanical electric measuring apparatus and oblique-pulling device. Results The ratio of contact stress in pulling-and-extending condition, physiologic condition and pathologic condition is 1∶1.2∶9.4.Under normal physiologic condition, the stress in posterior extension is greater than that in anterior flexion, but less than in neutral position. Conclusion A better option of the manipulation position is to put the patient′s head at a slight flexion when a certain pulling-extending force is applied. In patient with severe degenerative changes of the cervical spine and unstability, the amplitude of rotation and the force of manipulation should be decreased.

The role of autophagy is known to be highly complex and context-dependent, and may be characterized as both tumor suppression and tumor promotion in some tumors, such as breast cancer and prostate cancer. This review outlines recent advances in the studies of the involvement of autophagy in the development, progression and treatment of prostate cancer, focusing on autophagy modulation during androgen deprivation, with a special discussion on the regulatory effect of androgens on the autophagy of prostate cancer cells. A critical evaluation and analysis of the studies suggests that autophagy inhibition combined with androgen deprivation therapy is a promising approach to the treatment of prostate cancer.

OBJECTIVETo compare the efficacy on vertebrobasilar insufficiency (VBI) between auricular acupuncture therapy and oral administration of medicine.
METHODSSixty patients of VBI were randomized into an auricular acupuncture therapy group and a medicine group, 30 cases in each one. In the auricular acupuncture group, acupuncture was applied bilaterally to gan (CO12) and jiejie (HX8) on the ears and needles were retained for 15 min. After needle withdrawal, the vaccariae semen were fixed with plaster at naogan (AT3, 4i), zhen (AT3), jing (AH12), shen (CO10) and pi (CO13) on the ears. In the medicine group, flunarizine hydrochloride capsules (Sibelium), 5mg were prescribed for oral administration, once every night. The treatment lasted continuously for 2 weeks (14 days) in the two groups. In 2 weeks, the clinical efficacy was assessed and the transcranial doppler (TCD) examination was performed.
RESULTSAfter treatment, the symptom scores were all apparently reduced in the patients of the two groups (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). Compared with the medicine group, the reduced score was much more obvious in the auricular acupuncture group (P < 0.05), indicating the significant difference. After treatment, with TCD examination, the blood velocity was increased to different degrees in the patients of low velocity type in the auricular acupuncture group and the medicine group; that was reduced to different degrees in the patients of high velocity type in the auricular acupuncture group and the medicine group. All of them were different significantly as compared with those before treatment (all P < 0.05). But the difference was not significant between the two groups (both P > 0.05). In comparison of clinical efficacy between the two groups, the effective rate was 93.3% (28/30) in the acupuncture group and better than 76.7% (23/30) in the medicine group, indicating the significant difference in comparison (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe auricular acupuncture therapy achieves the definite efficacy on VBI and the efficacy is better than flunarizine hydrochloride capsules.

Objective:To analyze the characteristics of health financing at the provincial level according to the total health expenditure since China health system reform began in 2009 and provide evidence for improving health fi-nancing policy. Methods:20 provinces were chosen and vertical and horizontal Comparative approach was used to an-alyze the data. Results:Total health expenditure increased for all regions, of which the biggest rate was Anhui prov-ince, about 82. 97%, while the largest increasing for government health care expenditure was Ningxia province, a-bout 108 . 71%. In 2012 , the provinces with social health expenditure share of total above 40% were allocated in the east region, and the number of provinces with out-of pocket payment share of total above 40% reduces to 5. Conclu-sion:Total health expenditure grew in all regions, but there were differences in the degree that this spending matched the economic level; The financing structure was optimized, but the characteristic of regional financing was different. Some provinces were under huge pressure to reduce out-of pocket payments. Suggestions: Under the premise of im-proving the funding level, financing structure adjustment must be focused, and public funding should play a bigger role and out-of pocket payments should be reduced.

BACKGROUND:Currently, there is stil no clear conclusion on the pros and cons of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with or without stump preservation residues as wel as the impact of reconstruction with stump preservation on proprioceptive sensation. OBJECTIVE:To compare the curative effect of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with or without stump preservation on the function and stability of the knee joint during a 1-year folow-up. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 75 cases of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction was done, including 37 cases of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction without stump preservation and 38 cases of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with stump preservation. Autologous hamstring tendons were selected as implants. Evaluation of preoperative (6 months before operation) and postoperative (6 months and 1 year after operation) knee function and stability was implemented on the basis of Lysholm scores, IKDC Scores and KT2000. The comparative analysis was carried out as wel on repeated passive angle for proprioception testing. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Al of the patients were folowed up for 12 to 20 months. Range of motion of the knee joint was basicaly restored in the two groups 6 months after operation. The results showed the Lysholm scores, IKDC scores and KT-2000 scores at 6 months and 1 year after operation were significantly improved in the two groups as compared with the preoperative data (P < 0.05), and there was no statisticaly difference between the two groups. The proprioception difference between the healthy and affected sides was lower in the patients with stump preservation than those without stump preservation at 6 months and 1 year after operation (P< 0.05). There were two cases in each group whose bone tunnel of the tibia was found deviating from the ideal position through postoperative X-ray examination, but cyclopia was unseen. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with stump preservation is beneficial to the recovery of postoperative proprioception without increasing of postoperative complications.
