2.Study on the Effects of BaDuanJin Exercise on Patients with Scapulohumeral Periarthritis

Objective To observe the clinical therapeutic effects of BaDuanJin exercise on patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis.Methods 72 patients were randomly divided into therapeutic group and control group,with 36 cases in each group.The patients in control group were treated with electroacupuncture and those in therapeutic group were treated with electroacupuncture and BaDuanJin exercise for 4 weeks.Pain degree(VAS)and shoulder ROM(Melle Scores)were evaluated before therapy,2 weeks and 4 weeks after therapy.The patients were followed up for 3 months.Results The VAS scores and Melle scores of both groups after therapy(both at two weeks and four weeks)showed significant difference than those before thempy.The scores after 4 weeks therapy were better than those of 2 weeks therapy.The effects of therapeutic group after 3 months showed better result than controls,but without statistical difference(P>0.05).Conclusion BaDuanJin,as a mild exercise had favorable therapeutic effccts on patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis.
3.KL-6 as a useful serum marker for interstitial lung disease in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies

Objective To determine the serum level of KL-6 in patients with polymyositis(PM)and dermatomyositis(DM),and to investigate the possible diagnostic value for interstitial lung diseases(ILD)in pa- tients with PM/DM.Methods Serum KL-6 concentrations were measured by ELISA in 53 adult PM/DM pa- tients,the control groups of 22 patients with infectious lung disease,and 50 healthy subjects.The association with clinical features and serum KL-6 levels was analyzed.Results The serum levels of KL-6 were(1543?761)、(429?106)、(336?196)and(289?105)U/ml in PM/DM patients with ILD and without ILD,patients with infectious lung disease and healthy controls,respectively.Serum KL-6 levels in the PM/DM patients with ILD were significantly higher compared with PM/DM patients without ILD,patients with infectious lung disease and healthy controls(all P<0.01 ).However,no significant differences of serum KL-6 levels was found among PM/ DM patients without ILD,patients with infectious lung disease and healthy controls(P>0.05).Significant cor- relations were found between the elevated levels of serum KL-6 and the presence of ILD in patients with PM/ DM(P<0.01).The sensitivity and specificity of serum abnormal KL-6 levels for ILD in patients with PM/DM were 90.9% and 80.6%.Additionally,follow-up study showed the mean serum levels of KL-6 in six patients who died were significantly higher than that in other PM/DM patients with ILD(P<0.01).Conclusion Serum KL-6 level is a reliable serum marker for ILD in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies,which may contribute to early differentiate ILD from lung infectious disease.Increased serum level of KL-6 may predict a poor out- come.
4.Effects of Citicoline Acupuncture Point Injection on Learning and Memory Function of Rats with Traumatic Brain Injury

Objective To explore the effects of citicoline injection into Zusanli point (ST36) on learning and memory function of rats after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Methods The model was induced with the improved Feeney method. The rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: sham-operation group, control group, acupuncture point saline injection group, intraperitoneal drug injection group and acupuncture point drug injection group with 8 rats in each group. The rats in the acupuncture point drug or saline injection group were treated with acupuncture injection of citicoline or saline daily. The rats in the intraperitoneal drug injection group and control group were treated with intraperitoneal injection of citicoline or saline daily. The treatment continued for 14 d. The learning and memory function was evaluated with the Morris water maze test and passive avoidance test. Results Acupuncture point injection of citicoline can significantly shorten the escape latent period of TBI rats in Morris water tests and extend the latent period of learning and memory of TBI rats (P<0.05). Conclusion Acupuncture point injection is effective on the recovery of learning and memory function of rats after TBI.
5.Study of Breeding Saccharomyces cerevisiae with Improved Temperature and Ethanol Tolerance by Genome Shuffling

By UV induced mutagenesis of protoplasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain f4, f5 and f6, and screening on plates containing different concertration of ethanol at different temperature, we obtained improved strains, such as f4.2, f5.1, f6.2, f4.5. By using a DES to deal with all the improved strains, We obtained two mutants, f5.1.1 and f4.2.1,which have improved ethanol torlerance. We made use of genome shuffling to generate improved strains in this work. We shuffled twice these improved strains by protoplast fusion and finally obtained strains with higher temperature and ethanol tolerance. we also identified shuffled strains that produced more ethanol by shake-flask experments. At the 35℃, the ethanol yield of R24 strain got to 12.93% (W/V), and were almost 5% higher than that of stain f4.
8.Acupoint combination and acupuncture-moxibustion prescription.

The modern physicians have different views on acupoint combination and acupuncture-moxibustion prescription and confuse them in clinical practice. It is significant to clarify the conception, connotation and relationship between them so as to normalize the therapeutic program of acupuncture and moxibustion and promote the standardization of acupuncture and moxibustion. Through the collection of relevant literature and analysis on the differences in the understandings among physicians, the conception, connotation and relationship between acupoint combination and acupuncture-moxibustion prescription are summarized. It is viewed that the acupoint combination is based on TCM theory. Under the guide of acupoint selection, in combination of the characters of clinical practice and acupoint indications, two or more than two acupoints of the same function are combined to enhance the collaborative effects of acupoints so as to achieve specific efficacy and improve clinical efficacy. Regarding acupuncture-moxibustion prescription, on the basis of disorder and syndrome differentiation of patients, the concrete therapeutic program is put forward, including acupoint composition and therapeutic method. Acupoint combination is the basic element of acupuncture-moxibustion prescription. Acupuncture-moxibustion prescription is the specific application of acupoint combination.

9.Immune mechanisms of the active ingredients of Chinese medicinal herbs for chronic prostatitis.

Chronic prostatitis is a common male disease, and its pathogenesis is not yet clear. Most scholars believe that oxidative stress and immune imbalance are the keys to the occurrence and progression of chronic prostatitis. Currently immunotherapy of chronic prostatitis remains in the exploratory stage. This article relates the active ingredients of 5 Chinese medicinal herbs (total glucosides of paeony, tripterigium wilfordii polglycosidium, curcumin, geniposide, and quercetin) for the treatment of chronic prostatitis and their possible action mechanisms as follows: 1) inhibiting the immune response and activation and proliferation of T-cells, and adjusting the proportion of Th1/Th2 cells; 2) upregulating the expression of Treg and enhancing the patient's tolerability; 3) suppressing the activation of the NF-kB factor, reducing the release of iNOS, and further decreasing the release of NO, IL-2 and other inflammatory cytokines, which contribute to the suppression of the immune response; 4) inhibiting the production of such chemokines as MCP-1 and MIP-1α in order to reduce their induction of inflammatory response. Studies on the immune mechanisms of Chinese medicinal herbs in the treatment of chronic prostatitis are clinically valuable for the development of new drugs for this disease.

10.Effects of Citicoline Acupoint Injection on Expression of Growth Associated Protein-43 in Rats with Traumatic Brain Injury

Objective To investigate the effects of injection of citicoline into Zusanli (ST36) acupoint on neural function and expression of growth associated protein-43 (GAP-43) in rats with traumatic brain injury. Methods 40 healthy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: sham-operated group (group A, n=8), acupoint injection of citicoline group (group B, n=8), acupoint injection of saline group (group C, n=8), intraperitoneal injection of citicoline group (group D, n=8) and intraperitoneal injection of saline group (group E, n=8). Opened brain trauma was induced with the modified Feeney method in the groups B, C, D and E, and were treated as design, once a day for 14 days. They were assessed with nervous function score and open-field test before and 8, 14, 15, and 22 days after injury. The expression of GAP-43 in the brain were detected with immunohistochemistry 28 days after injury. Results The nervous function scores and open-field test scores improved more significantly in the group B than in the groups C, D and E (P<0.05). The expression of GAP-43 increased in the group B than in the groups C, D and E (P<0.05). Conclusion Acupoint injection of citicoline into Zusanli may improve the expressions of GAP-43 to promote the recovery of neural function in rats after traumatic brain injury.
