Blockage of the retinal artery system may occur in the form of central retinal arterial obstruction, branch retinal arterial obstruction, or combination of aforementioned. It may be related to known pre-existing systemic disease or it may be the initial manifestation of a previous undiagnosed systemic abnormality. The authors evaluatea the clinical course of 35 cases of retinal artery occlusion at Department of Ophthalmology, Pusan Paik Hospital Inje Mgdical College from September, 1979 to June, 1988.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of soft chelating irrigant on the sealing ability of root fillings by using a glucose leakage test. A total of 45 single-rooted teeth were selected for the study. The teeth were decoronated leaving a total length of 13mm. The root canals prepared using K3 NiTi rotary instruments to an apical dimension of size 45(0.06 taper). The specimens were then randomly divided into 3 experimental groups of 13 roots each and 2 control groups of 3 roots each. Specimen in each group were prepared with different irrigation protocols : group 1, 2.5% NaOCl; group 2, 2.5% NaOCl and 17% EDTA; group 3, 2.5% NaOCl and 15% HEBP. The root canals were filled with gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer using lateral condensation. After 7 days in 37degrees C, 100% humidity, the coronal-to-apical microleakage was evaluated quantitatively using a glucose leakage model. The leaked glucose concentration was measured with spectrophotometry at 1, 4, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. There was a tendency of increase in leakage in all experimental groups during experimental period. HEBP-treated dentin showed no significant difference with EDTA-treated dentin during experimental period. From the 21th day onward, HEBP-treated dentin showed significantly lower leakage than smear-covered dentin. HEBP-treated dentin displayed a similar sealing pattern to EDTA-treated dentin and a better sealing ability than smear-covered dentin. Consequently, a soft chelator(HEBP) could be considered as the possible alternative to EDTA.

Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science 2020;50(5):291-302
Purpose:
The objective of this study was to investigate whether phelligridin D could reduce glucose-induced oxidative stress, attenuate the resulting inflammatory response, and restore the function of human periodontal ligament cells (HPDLCs).
Methods:
Primary HPDLCs were isolated from healthy human teeth and cultured. To investigate the effect of phelligridin D on glucose-induced oxidative stress, HPDLCs were treated with phelligridin D, various concentrations of glucose, and glucose oxidase.Glucose-induced oxidative stress, inflammatory molecules, osteoblast differentiation, and mineralization of the HPDLCs were measured by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2 ) generation, cellular viability, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, alizarin red staining, and western blot analyses.
Results:
Glucose-induced oxidative stress led to increased production of H2O2 , with negative impacts on cellular viability, ALP activity, and calcium deposition in HPDLCs. Furthermore, HPDLCs under glucose-induced oxidative stress showed induction of inflammatory molecules (intercellular adhesion molecule-1, vascular cell adhesion protein-1, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-1-beta) and disturbances of osteogenic differentiation (bone morphogenetic protein-2, and -7, runt-related transcription factor-2), cementogenesis (cementum protein-1), and autophagy-related molecules (autophagy related 5, light chain 3 I/II, beclin-1). Phelligridin D restored all these molecules and maintained the function of HPDLCs even under glucose-induced oxidative stress.
Conclusions
This study suggests that phelligridin D reduces the inflammation that results from glucose-induced oxidative stress and restores the function of HPDLCs (e.g., osteoblast differentiation) by upregulating autophagy.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between gross motor function and daily functional skill in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and to explore how this relationship is moderated by the Gross Motor Function Classification System, Bimanual Fine Motor Function (BFMF), neuromotor types, and limb distribution of CP. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of 112 children with CP (range, 4 years to 7 years and 7 months) was performed. Gross motor function was assessed with the Gross Motor Function Measure-66 (GMFM-66) and functional skill was assessed with the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory-Functional Skills Scale (PEDI-FSS). RESULTS: GMFM-66 scores explained 49.7%, 67.4%, and 26.1% of variance in the PEDI-FSS scores in the self-care, mobility, and social function domains, respectively. Significant moderation by the distribution of palsy and BFMF classification levels II, III, and IV was found in the relationship between GMFM-66 and PEDI-FSS self-care. Further significant moderation by the distribution of palsy was also observable in the relationship between GMFM-66 and PEDI-FSS mobility. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that limb distribution and hand function must be considered when evaluating gross motor function and functional skills in children with CP, especially in unilateral CP.

BACKGROUND: The sagittal alignment of the spine and pelvis is not only closely related to the overall posture of the body but also to the evaluation and treatment of spine disease. In the last few years, the EOS imaging system, a new low-dose radiation X-ray device, became available for sagittal alignment assessment. However, there has been little research on the reliability of EOS. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the intrarater and interrater reliability of EOS for the sagittal alignment assessment of the spine and pelvis. METHODS: Records of 46 patients were selected from the EOS recording system between November 2016 and April 2017. The exclusion criteria were congenital spinal anomaly and deformity, and previous history of spine and pelvis operation. Sagittal parameters of the spine and pelvis were measured by three examiners three times each using both manual and EOS methods. Means comparison t-test, Pearson bivariate correlation analysis, and reliability analysis by intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) for intrarater and interrater reliability were performed using R package “irr.” RESULTS: We found excellent intrarater and interrater reliability of EOS measurements. For intrarater reliability, the ICC ranged from 0.898 to 0.982. For interrater reliability, the ICC ranged from 0.794 to 0.837. We used a paired t-test to compare the values measured by manual and EOS methods: there was no statistically significant difference between the two methods. Correlation analysis also showed a statistically significant positive correlation. CONCLUSIONS: EOS showed excellent reliability for assessment of the sagittal alignment of the spine and pelvis.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2022;33(4):67-75
Objective:
This study evaluated the anxiety, work, and socioeconomic burden of emergency physicians (EP) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in South Korea.
Methods:
A cross-sectional observational study was conducted using data from the 2020 Korean Emergency Physician Survey that included the following domains: hospital resources of suspected COVID-19 patients, availability of personal protective equipment, levels of home and workplace anxiety, the severity of work burnout, identification of stressors, changes in personal environments, and measures to decrease stress/anxiety.
Results:
Totally, 855 eligible participants were enrolled in the study. A statistically significant deterioration was observed in response to decreased working income or an unstable employment situation (0.46±0.88 points). The median number of patients with confirmed COVID-19 was 2.72. The risk of infection during emergency department (ED) work was found to be significantly increased (P<0.01). Of the 751 respondents (91.4%) who reported patient contact during their survey phase, 516 (62.8%) reported having taken the COVID-19 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test. The major factors that affected worsening of the work burden were determined to be unsuitable inter-hospital transfer arrangements for febrile patients (3.46±1.06 before vs. 1.99±1.16 after the pandemic, P<0.01) and delayed consultation for patients with fever or respiratory symptoms in the ED (3.20±1.06 before vs. 2.66±1.10 after the pandemic, P<0.01).
Conclusion
During the peak phase, the COVID-19 pandemic induced substantial workplace and socioeconomic burdens for Korean EPs. The sustained impact of the pandemic on the wellness of EPs deserves further investigation to guide targeted interventions.
