Objectives To explore the expression of HER4 and VEGF in NSCLC and elucidate the relationship between their expression and the characteristic of clinical pathology. Methods 82 cases of paraffin-embedded tissues from informative NSCLC were used to detect the expression of HER4 and VEGF by means of immunohistochemical assay. Results HER4 is overexpressed in 65;9%of NSCLC cases. The overexpression of HER4 is correlated with the lymph node metastasis and TNM staging. VEGF is expressed in 53.7%of NSCLC cases. The expression of VEGF is also correlated with the lymph node metastasis and TNM staging, and the expression of VEGF is correlated with the overexpression of HER4.Conclusions HER4 and VEGF are the protein to regulate the growth of NSCLC and it might be a good way for the treatment of NSCLC by suppressing the overexpression of HER4 and VEGF.

PURPOSE: The authors investigated the effect of lumbar facet tropism (FT) on intervertebral disc degeneration (DD), facet joint degeneration (FJD), and segmental translational motion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using kinetic MRI (KMRI), lumbar FT, which was defined as a difference in symmetry of more than 7degrees between the orientations of the facet joints, was investigated in 900 functional spinal units (300 subjects) in flexion, neutral, and extension postures. Each segment at L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1 was assessed based on the extent of DD (grade I-V) and FJD (grade 1-4). According to the presence of FT, they were classified into two groups; one with FT and one with facet symmetry. For each group, demographics, DD, FJD and translational segmental motion were compared. RESULTS: The incidence of FT was 34.5% at L3-L4, 35.1% at L4-L5, and 35.2% at L5-S1. Age and gender did not show any significant relationship with FT. Additionally, no correlation was observed between DD and FT. FT, however, wasfound to be associated with a higher incidence of highly degenerated facet joints at L4-L5 when compared to patients without FT (p < 0.01). Finally, FT was not observed to have any effects upon translational segmental motion. CONCLUSION: No significant correlation was observed between lumbar FT and DD or translational segmental motion. However, FT was shown to be associated significantly with the presence of high grades of FJD at L4-L5. This suggests that at active sites of segmental motion, FT may predispose to the development of facet joint degeneration.

Phytochemicals are reported to provide various biological functions leading to the promotion of health as well as the reduced risk of chronic diseases. Fat-soluble plant pigments, carotenoids, are extensively studied micronutrient phytochemicals for their potential health benefits. It is noteworthy that specific carotenoids may be responsible for different protective effects against certain diseases. In addition, each carotenoid can be obtained from different types of plant foods. Considering the fact that the phytochemical content in foods can vary according to, but not limited to, the varieties and culture conditions, it is important to establish a database of phytochemicals in locally produced plant foods. Currently, information on individual carotenoid content in plant foods commonly consumed in Korea is lacking. As the first step to support the production and consumption of sustainable local plant foods, carotenoids and total phenolic contents of plant foods commonly consumed in Korea are presented and their potential biological functions are discussed in this review.

Objective:To explore the prediction model of tissue chip technology for the chemotherapy response of patients with colorectal cancer.Methods:217 patients with colorectal cancer who had received standardized chemotherapy in the Affiliated People’s Hospital of Ningbo University from Jan. 2017 to Dec. 2019 were prospectively selected. The patients were randomly divided into training set (152 cases) and test set (65 cases) according to the ratio of 7:3, and were followed up for 6 months. The clinical data of the patients in the training set were compared, the expression levels of Ang-2, caspase-3 and CD147 in the patients were analyzed by tissue microarray technology, and the related factors affecting the responsiveness of colorectal cancer chemotherapy were analyzed by the Logistic regression model. R software was used based on the training set. A nomogram prediction model was built and model performance on the test set was evaluated.Results:One case was excluded from the training center, and 151 cases were finally included, including 93 cases in the chemotherapy response group and 58 cases in the chemotherapy response group. The tumor diameter, serum carcinoembryonic antigen, caspase3, Ang2 expression level, and the proportion of clinical stage IV in the poor chemotherapy group were significantly higher than those in the good chemotherapy group (all P<0.05) ; Logistic regression showed tumor diameter ( OR=2.394), serum carcinoembryonic antigen ( OR=1.878), caspase-3 ( OR=4.261), Ang-2 expression level ( OR=5.457), and clinical stage IV ( OR=5.954) were independent risk factors for adverse drug reactions in patients with colorectal cancer (all P<0.05). The consistency index (C-index) for predicting the factors related to adverse chemotherapy reactions in patients with colorectal cancer was 0.915. External verification showed that the sensitivity was 86.96%, the specificity was 92.50%, and the accuracy was 90.48% (42/65) . Conclusion:The expression levels of Ang-2 and caspase-3 are correlated with the responsiveness of colorectal cancer to chemotherapy, and can be used as predictive indicators to evaluate the responsiveness of colorectal cancer to chemotherapy.

Objective: To explore the relationship between BRAFV600E, Ki67 protein and thyroid carcinoma with different pathologic characteristics, thus to provide clinical evidence on early prognosis and personalized treatment in patients with thyroid carcinoma. Methods: From January 2015 to January 2017, 76 patients diagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC), who treated in Yinzhou People's Hospital, were enrolled.Twenty cases with normal tumor-adjacent tissue after operation and 34 patients with non-PTC were also enrolled as control.All the patients enrolled were not treated with endocrine, chemical and radiotherapy.The expression of BRAFV600E and Ki67 protein was detected by immunohistochemical method, and the BRAFV600E and Ki67 expression and their correlation with different pathologic characteristic of thyroid carcinoma was analyzed by SPSS 18.0. Results: The positive rate of BRAFV600E and Ki67 protein in 110 patients with thyroid carcinoma was 56.36%(62 cases) and 39.09%(43 cases), with the highest expression of BRAFV600E and the lowest expression of Ki67 in patients with PTC respectively.The expression of BRAFV600E and Ki67 protein was all negative in normal tumor-adjacent tissue.The positive expression of BRAFV600E and Ki67 in patients with PTC demonstrated significant difference in TNM stage, tumor side and lymphoid node metastasis(BRAFV600E: χ²=5.281, 9.771, 9.771, all P<0.05; Ki67: χ² =7.098, 4.070, 5.067, all P<0.05), while with no obvious difference in sex, age and numbers of tumor(BRAFV600E: χ²=0.078, 0.093, 0.061, all P>0.05; Ki67: χ²=0.224, 0.518, 1.281, all P>0.05). Conclusion The detection of BRAFV600E and Ki67 is benefit on judging of innocent and malignant, the malignant degree of thyroid tissue.The high expression of BRAFV600E and Ki67 is benefit on differentiating PTC and early evaluation of prognosis.
