OBJECTIVETo investigate the relationship between the expression of murine double minute 2 (MDM2) oncogene and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in childhood.
METHODSThirty-one cases of NHL were enrolled in this study as patient group and 8 cases of lymphadenitis as control group. (1) Immunohistochemistry ultrasensitive S-P assay was used to detect the expression of MDM2 protein in pathological tissues in all cases. Positive cells were dyed yellow or brown in nuclei. MDM2 positive cell was defined as >/= 10% of the tumor cells were positive, which was overexpression of MDM2 protein. (2) RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) was performed to value the overexpression of MDM2 mRNA in the pathological tissues and mononuclear cells in peripheral blood. While the ratio of MDM2/beta-actin was >16% was defined as overexpression of MDM2 mRNA.
RESULTS(1) Rates of overexpression of MDM2 protein and MDM2 mRNA were 64.5% and 61.3%, respectively, which were significantly different as compared to that of control group (P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). (2) The relationship analysis among subgroups in the experiment group showed that the overexpression of MDM2 protein did not correlate with classifications of working formulation, cellular origin, sex, clinical stage and involved extranodal sites (P > 0.05), but significantly correlated with classifications of B status and the increased serum LDH level (P < 0.05). It was shown that the overexpression of MDM2 mRNA did not correlate with classifications of working formulation, cellular origin, sex and clinical stage (P > 0.05), significantly correlated with B status (P < 0.05), and was remarkably significantly correlated with the involved extranodal sites and the increased serum LDH level (P < 0.01). (3) It was demonstrated that the overexpression of MDM2 mRNA in the pathological tissues was similar to the overexpression of MDM2 protein in the pathological tissues and MDM2 mRNA in peripheral blood (P > 0.05, kappa = 0.655 and 0.571), and the overexpression of MDM2 protein in the pathological tissues was similar to that of MDM2 mRNA in peripheral blood (P > 0.05, kappa = 0.609).
CONCLUSIONS(1) The rate of MDM2 oncogene overexpression was quite high. (2) The overexpression of MDM2 protein in pathological tissues determined by using immunohistochemistry ultrasensitive S-P assay was similar to that of MDM2 mRNA in pathological tissues detected by using RT-PCR method. Both methods might be used to detect the overexpression of MDM2 oncogene in the cases of childhood NHL. (3) The overexpression of MDM2 oncogene related to the poor status and poor prognosis of patients with childhood NHL.

BACKGROUNDNeuromyelitis optica (NMO) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are autoimmune demyelinating diseases of the central nerve system. Interleukin-7 (IL-7) and interleukin-7 receptor alpha (IL-7Rα) were proved to be important in the pathogenesis of both diseases because of the roles they played in the differentiations of autoimmune lymphocytes. The variants of both genes had been identified to be associated with MS susceptibility in Caucasian, Japanese and Korean populations. However, the association of these variants with NMO and MS has not been well studied in Chinese Southeastern Han population. Here, we aimed to evaluate the association of six IL-7 variants (rs1520333, rs1545298, rs4739140, rs6993386, rs7816065, and rs2887502) and one variant of IL-7RA (rs6897932) with NMO and MS among Chinese Han population in southeastern China.
METHODSMatrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MassARRAY system) and Sanger sequencing were used to determine the variants of IL-7 and IL-7RA in 167 NMO patients, 159 MS patients and 479 healthy controls among Chinese Han population in southeastern China. Samples were excluded if the genotyping success rate <90%.
RESULTSStatistical differences were observed in the genotypes of IL-7 rs1520333 in MS patients and IL-7RA rs6897932 in NMO patients, compared with healthy controls (P = 0.035 and 0.034, respectively). There was a statistically significant difference in the genotypes of IL-7 rs2887502 between MS and NMO patients (P = 0.014). And there were statistically significant differences in the rs6897932 genotypes (P = 0.004) and alleles (P = 0.042) between NMO-IgG positive patients and healthy controls.
CONCLUSIONSThe study suggested that among Chinese Han population in southeastern China, the variant of IL-7RA (rs6897932) was associated with NMO especially NMO-IgG positive patients while the variant of IL-7 (rs1520333) with MS patients. And the genotypic differences of IL-7 rs2887502 between MS and NMO indicated the different genetic backgrounds of these two diseases.

OBJECTIVEShellfish are recognized as important vehicles of norovirus-associated gastroenteritis. The present study aimed to monitor norovirus contamination in oysters along the farm-to-fork continuum in Guangxi, a major oyster production area in Southwestern China.
METHODSOyster samples were collected monthly from farms, markets, and restaurants, from January to December 2016. Norovirus was detected and quantified by one-step reverse transcription-droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (RT-ddPCR).
RESULTSA total of 480 oyster samples were collected and tested for norovirus genogroups I and II. Norovirus was detected in 20.7% of samples, with genogroup II predominating. No significant difference was observed in norovirus prevalence among different sampling sites. The norovirus levels varied widely, with a geometric mean of 19,300 copies/g in digestive glands. Both norovirus prevalence and viral loads showed obvious seasonality, with a strong winter bias.
CONCLUSIONThis study provides a systematic analysis of norovirus contamination 'from the farm to the fork' in Guangxi. RT-ddPCR can be a useful tool for detection and quantification of low amounts of norovirus in the presence of inhibitors found particularly in foodstuffs. This approach will contribute to the development of strategies for controlling and reducing the risk of human illness resulting from shellfish consumption.

Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of hepatitis A in Guangxi from 2010 to 2020, and to provide a scientific basis for formulating effective prevention and control strategies. Methods Descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the incidence data of hepatitis A in Guangxi from 2010 to 2020. Results From 2010 to 2020, a total of 8,742 cases of hepatitis A were reported in Guangxi, with an average annual incidence rate of 1.66 /100,000. There were 5 298 male cases (60.60%), and 3,444 female cases (39.40%). The incidence rate decreased from 2.73/100 000 in 2010 to 1.38/100 000 in 2020. The onset seasonality was strong in 2010, but there was no obvious seasonality in other years. A total of 5 891 cases (67.39%) were aged from 25 to 64 years. Farmers accounted for 59.79% of the cases. A total of 7 hepatitis A outbreaks were reported during 2010-2020, including 273 cases, accounting for 3.12% of the total cases. The incidence rates of hepatitis A in Hezhou (3.97/100 000), Wuzhou (2.98/100 000), Hechi (2.44/100 000), Guigang (2.00/100 000) and Beihai (1.79/100 000) were relatively higher than other places. Conclusion The number of reported hepatitis A cases in Guangxi has been declining year by year, and the prevention and control measures of hepatitis A vaccine prevention are effective. The surveillance of hepatitis A should be strengthened, and prevention and control strategies should be formulated for high-risk areas and key populations.

Hip fracture in the elderly is characterized by high incidence, high disability rate, and high mortality and has been recognized as a public health issue threatening their health. Surgery is the preferred choice for the treatment of elderly patients with hip fracture. However, lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT) has an extremely high incidence rate during the perioperative period, and may significantly increase the risk of patients′ death once it progresses to pulmonary embolism. In response to this issue, the clinical guidelines and expert consensuses all emphasize active application of comprehensive preventive measures, including basic prevention, physical prevention, and pharmacological prevention. In this prevention system, basic prevention is the basis of physical and pharmacological prevention. However, there is a lack of unified and definite recommendations for basic preventive measures in clinical practice. To this end, the Orthopedic Nursing Professional Committee of the Chinese Nursing Association and Nursing Department of the Orthopedic Branch of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care organized relevant nursing experts to formulate Expert consensus on perioperative basic prevention for lower extremity deep venous thrombosis in elderly patients with hip fracture ( version 2024) . A total of 10 recommendations were proposed, aiming to standardize the basic preventive measures for lower extremity DVT in elderly patients with hip fractures during the perioperative period and promote their subsequent rehabilitation.
