Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition 2009;16(4):225-227,230
Objective: To investigate the laboratory, clinical and economic results of early postoperative enteral nutrition(EEN) in patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Methods: 120 patients with gastrointestinal cancer were randomly divided into three groups: EEN,early postoperative parenteral nutrition(PN), and traditional nutrition(CON)groups. The 1/3 and 2/3 target volumes were administered on the first and second postoperative days(1POD,2POD),and the full volume was given from 3POD to 8POD in EEN and PN groups. The routine formula was offerd from 1POD to 8POD in CON group. The nutritional and immune parameters were detected one day before surgery and 9POD, and the clinical and economic results were collected in three groups. Results: The levels of ALB,TF,PA,CD3,CD4,CD4/CD8 were significantly higher in EEN and PN groups than those in CON group(both P<0.01),and the CD3,CD4,CD4/CD8 were better in EEN group than those in PN group(P<0.05).The side effects of EEN group were similar to those of PN group(P>0.05). The recovery of bowel function was quicker in EEN group than that in PN and CON groups(both P<0.05).The complication rate, cost of nutrition support, and cost of complication treatment were lower in EEN group than those in PN group(P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.01).Although the cost of nutrition support was lowest but the complication rate and cost of complication treatment were all highest in CON group. Conclusion: EEN is better in immune function, recovery of bowel function, complication rate, and cost-effectiveness than those in PN, and from our multiple angular viewpoints EEN is the first choice for patients with gastrointestinal cancer.

AIM: To investigate the postoperative changes of binocular visual function in patients with congenital superior oblique palsy.METHODS: Eye position and binocular visual function were examined in 28 patients with congenital superior oblique palsy pre- and post-operatively. The results were statistically analyzed.RESULTS: The normal eye position rate after operation was 89.3%. There were 9 patients who gained simultaneous perception after operation, while 13 patients gained fusion as many as that gained stereoacuity. There was statistically significant difference between postoperative and preoperative eyes (P<0.05). Near stereoacuity was improved after operation. Patients who had better visual acuity and low strabismus degrees as well as fusion had a better recovery.CONCLUSION: The operation could improve the eye position and rebuild the binocular visual function of the congenital superior oblique palsy. The recovery of binocular visual function was related to visual acuity and strabismus degrees of the patients and whether they had fusion function.

AlM: To compare the results of 4 methods for measuring angle of exodeviation in the three types of intermittent exotropia, including when looking at indoor distance target of 6m, looking at indoor distance target of 30m, looking at outdoor far distance target, after 1h diagnostic occlusion test.
METHODS: Prospective case series study. Sixty-five patients with intermittent exotropia between June 2013 and June 2014 were enrolled in the Department of Ophthalmology, Affiliated Hospital to Qingdao University, included 37 males and 28 females with average age ( 12. 5 ± 6. 2 ) years. All the patients were measured when looking at indoor distance target of 6m, looking at indoor distance target of 30m, looking at outdoor far distance target, after 1h diagnostic occlusion test. lntermittent exotropia was divided into basic type, convergence insufficiency type and divergence excess type, which was based on the different result of between the distance and near measurements. The One-way test was applied to analyze the four methods of measuring angle of exodeviation in the three types of intermittent exotropia. LSD - t test was applied to compare the differences between each two methods in each type.
RESULTS: The distance exodeviations tested with looking at indoor distance target of 6m, looking at indoor distance target of 30m , looking at outdoor far distance target, after 1h diagnostic occlusion test were basic type (45. 4 ± 21. 0, 55. 0 ± 15. 0, 64. 68 ± 17. 7, 68. 75 ± 16. 6PD), convergence insufficiency type (33. 3 ± 14. 0, 44. 9 ± 12. 9, 43. 6±11. 8, 54. 6±11. 2PD), divergence excess type (55. 6± 17.4, 66.3±18.8, 76.9±16.4, 78.1±15.6PD). There were obviously differences between each two methods in each type ( basic type F = 9. 649, P = 0. 00; convergence insufficiency type F=6. 886, P=0. 001; divergence excess type F = 7. 989, P = 0. 00 ). Compared with looking at indoor distance target of 30m, looking at outdoor far distance target ( basic type P=0. 044, divergence excess type P = 0. 048 ) and after 1h diagnostic occlusion test (basic type P=0. 04, divergence excess type P=0. 027) had the statistical difference in the basic type and divergence excess type, and there was no obviously difference between looking at outdoor far distance target and after 1h diagnostic occlusion test ( basic type P=0. 353, divergence excess type P=0. 815). Compared with the other three measurements, 1h diagnostic occlusion test can elicit larger angle of deviation in the convergence insufficiency type.
CONCLUSlON: Both measurement with looking at outdoor far distance target and after 1h diagnostic occlusion test can elicit the larger angle of deviation in the basic type and divergence excess type; The measurement with after 1 hour diagnostic occlusion test can elicit the larger angle of deviation in the convergence insufficiency type.

NAD +-dependent cytosolic glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase in Sacch aromyces cerevisiae is one of the key enzymes in metabolic pathway of glycerol . catalysing the reduction of dihydroxyacetone phosphate to glycerol-3-phosph ate.It has two isoenzymes. To study the differences between their structures, their expression of encoding genes and their functions may help increase the understan ding of the cell response mechanism to the hyperosmotic and anoxic conditions. In this paper the research on the two isoenzymes was reviewed.

In this study, five rhesus macaques were inoculated intravenously with SIVmac251 to establish a model of simian autoimmune deficiency syndrome (SAIDS). Peripheral blood samples were collected at different time points to monitor changes in the total T cell number and T lymphocyte subset. Plasma viral loads, cytokine expression levels and anti-SIV antibody levels were also assayed to acquire certain basic indexes to evaluate disease progression in the rhesus macaque SAIDS model. During the acute stage of infection, plasma viral loads reached a peak at week 1 post-inoculation and lasted for approximately 3 to 44 weeks. The CD3+ CD4+ T lymphocyte count in peripheral blood also transitorily decreased. During the same period, the level of interferon-gamma show an increasing trend, whereas IL-12 levels decreased; IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and TNF-alpha were maintained at normal levels or could not be detected. During the asymptomatic and ARC phases, plasma viral loads persisted above 10(4) RNA copies/mL and either increased or declined during the later stages of disease; CD3+ CD4+ counts showed a steadily declining trend and the ratio of CD4 to CD8 decreased during late-stage disease. Moreover, antibodies against viral proteins were detected in the plasma and showed a significant increasing trend, while there were no apparently changes in the levels of IFN-gamma, IL-12, IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and TNF-alpha. In conclusion, the characteristics of the SIV animal models in our study are similar to those of patients with AIDS. Therefore, the rhesus macaque SIVmac251 infection models can be applied for further studies into AIDS.

China Biotechnology 2006;0(02):-
Lymphocyte function associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) is a member of integrin family, that plays an important role in the adhesion of lymphocytes with other cells and matrix. To investigate the role of LFA-1 in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), the incidence of CIA, histological and radiological assessments in the LFA-1 deficient (LFA-1~ -/- ) mice and control mice were examined. LFA-1~ -/- mice and control mice were immunized with 100?g collagen type II(CII) emulsified with an equal volume of Freund’s complete adjuvant (CFA), followed by the booster injection of the same amount of CII in CFA on day 21. Then, clinical, histological and radiological assessments were done. It showed that 57% control mice developed arthritis and apparently changed in the histological and radiological assessment, whereas the all of LFA-1~ -/- mice had the normal histological and radiographic response and none developed arthritis. These results suggeste that LFA-1 is indispensable for the onset of CIA.

In gene manipulation, different selectable markers with various linkers are necessary. In order to get selectable markers directly, we constructed from pBlueScript SK(-) a series of particular plasmids, pSKsymKm, pSKsymBle, pSKsymEry, pSKsymHyg and pSKsymGm, each contains Kanamycin, Bleomycin, Erythromycin, Hygromycin or Gentamycin resistance cassette. By restriction enzyme digestion and gel extraction, any of five antibiotic resistance genes with specific ends can be conveniently obtained.
