Objective To investigate MR imaging features of femoral marrow in treated ?-thalassemia major.Methods MR imaging of the proximal femoral marrow was performed in 35 cases of ?-thalassemia major and 45 age-and sex-matched normal children as control.Coronal images of femoral marrow with the techniques of spin echo and fast field echo(FFE)were obtained.On T_1-weighted imaging the red and yellow femoral marrow were judged and marrow distribution was classified into five groups.The hemosiderosis of marrow was judged on the basis of signal intensity of marrow on FFE imaging.The marrow distribution classification and the hemosiderosis on MR imaging were correlated with clinical features.Results On FFE,marrow hemosiderosis occurred in 15 patients with a marked hypo-intensity signal and was related to the age(P=0.032).On T_1-weighted imaging,the femoral marrow in 35 patients was classified as groupⅢand IV,while the marrow distribution was groupⅠorⅡin all normal children,there was statistically significant difference(P

This paper introduces the surface modification of NiTi alloy intravascular stents for roughness by chemical erosion and plasma deposition technology. The stent which had been granulated with chemical erosion was treated with TiO2 film prepared with Gel-sol. The study on the biocompatibility of the modified stent by the above two ways shows that the modified stent is rougher, and its anticoagulation and hydrophilicity are improved. However, the capability of erosion resistance is not enhanced significantly.

Objective To investigate proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy(~1H-MRS)findings and value on dog's brain contusion and laceration.Methods Models of focal brain contusion and laceration in 10 dogs were established through hitting on the right frontal-parietal lobe with a freely drop of 200g weight at 1.3 m height.Serial examinations(1 h,24 h,72 h,5 day,8 day and 14 day after trauma)were performed with conventional MRI and ~1H-MRS.NAA/Cr,Cho/Cr and NAA/Cho rates were analyzed with GE system 1.5 T scanner and relative software.After examination,all dogs were executed to death. Pathological study was performed at local brain contusion.Results 1 h and 24 h-post trauma,NAA/Cr、Cho/Cr、NAA/Cho were significantly reduced(NAA/Cr 0.843?0.214,0.862?0.204,contralateral ones 1.069?0.284,1.048?0.232,t=-7.227,-6.718,Cho/Cr 1.181?0.224,1.243?0.134,contralateral 1.415?0.305,1.455?0.159,t=-4.332,-4.489,NAA/Cho 0.701?0.147,0.536?0.136, contralateral 0.832?0.245,0.613?0.165,t=-2.652,-2.665.P＜0.05).Microscopy showed focal petechial hemorrhage and necrosis,neuron loss,neuraxonal swelling and small glial cell slightly hyperplasia.Five day post trauma,Cho/Cr was significantly elevated in comparison with contralateral ones (1.517?0.197,contralateral 1.387?0.214,t=3.758.P＜0.05).Pathologically,inflammatory was obvious,peri-angiitis,granula tissue and fibrosis were seen.8—14 day later,NAA/Cr was not significantly reduced(0.895?0.105,0.875?0.153,contralateral 0.989?0.169,0.990?0.173,t=-2.909, -2.471.P＞0.05),Cho/Cr was significantly increased(1.457?0.168,1.572?0.374,contralaterl 1.334?0.174,1.366?0.352,t=7.312,3.201.P＜0.05)Inflammatory and gila1 hyperplasia was more significant,granuloma were seen.Lipid and Lac peak were not seen at all stages.Conclusion MRS could be a methods to monitor neuron injury and repair,and dynamically to detect the metabolic changes of brain contusion and laceration,reflecting injury severity and provide theory data for early treatment and predicting long-term outcome after trauma.

Objective To investigate the clillicoradiologic characteristics of MarchiafavaBignami disease (MBD). Methods The clinical and neuroimaging findings, including lesion morphorogy, distribution, signal intensity/density in 7 MBD patients were retmspectiVely analyzed.Diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI)was performed in 5 cases.Of the 7 cases,4 underwent both CT and MRI,2 only CT and 1 MRI. Results with extensive iso-or slightly hypo-intensity on T1-weighted images and hyper-intensity on T2-weighted images, 5 patients were manifested as acute onset, in which white matter (WM) was symmetrically involved in bilateral periventricular and frontal subconical regions. Punctate or linear hypo-intensity on FLAIR images was found in the atrophied corpus callosum in 1 case presented as chronic type, with scattered patchy hyper-intensity in periventricular WM and frontal subcortical WM. DWI showed markedly hyper-intensity with diffusion restriction in 2 cases in acute phase with apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)values(0.52～0.55)×10-3 mm2/s.Brain atrophy was found in all the 7 patients. Conclusions The MRI features of MBD are characteristic and may be associated with the clinical spectrum and prognosis.

OBJECTIVEThis study attempted to explore the value of combining serum hepatic fibrosis-related markers and ultrasound parameters together on diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis.

METHODSSix serum markers and 8 ultrasound parameters were measured from 100 patients with chronic hepatitis B or cirrhosis. The results of the serum hepatic fibrosis-related markers and ultrasound in disease group were analyzed and compared with the findings of hepatic pathology.

RESULTSBy filtrating,the group of platelet derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) plus hyaluronic acid (HA) plus echo characteristics of liver parenchyma (LPEC) plus length of spleen (SL) had the highest Se and Spe, which were 90.7% and 85.4% respectively.

CONCLUSIONThe advantageous combination of serum markers and ultrasound parameters can significantly improve Se and Spe, which is superior to any single serum index or ultrasound parameter. And it was a better non-invasive method for diagnosing hepatic fibrosis.

OBJECTIVETo compare the complications in transoral CO2 and Nd:YAG laser surgery for the treatment of laryngeal carcinoma.

METHODSRetrospective analysis of 83 cases of glottic laryngeal carcinoma treated with laser surgery from January 1, 1999 to December 31, 2008 was carried out. Thirty-two cases were treated with the CO2 laser, including Tis (2 cases), T1N0M0 (21 cases), T2N0M0 (8 cases), and T3N0M0 (1 case). Fifty-one cases were treated with the Nd:YAG laser, including Tis (3 cases), T1N0M0 (36 cases), T1N2M0 (3 cases), and T2N0M0 (9 cases).

RESULTSFour complications (12.5%) occurred in the CO2 laser group. There was 1 local infection (3.1%), 1 numbness of the tongue (3.1%), 1 odontoseisis (3.1%), and 1 subcutaneous emphysema (3.1%). Twenty-seven complications (52.9%) occurred in 19 patients in the Nd:YAG laser group. There were postoperative bleeding 2 (3.9%), dyspnea 5 (9.8%), local infection 7 (13.7%), aspiration pneumonia 4 (7.8%), numbness of the tongue 2(3.9%), pharyngeal cutaneous fistula 1 (2.0%), vocal cord fixation 4 (7.8%), and laryngostenosis 2 (3.9%).

CONCLUSIONMore complications were observed in the patients with Nd:YAG laser surgery when compared to the patients with CO2 laser surgery.

OBJECTIVETo compare the postoperative hemorrhage between standard uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) and coblation assisted UPPP, and to evaluate the related risk factors and preventive measures.

METHODSFive hundreds and ninety seven patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) underwent UPPP and coblation assisted UPPP between January 1, 1999, and September 30, 2009 were reviewed retrospectively. Two hundred and sixty three patients with coblation assisted UPPP and 334 patients with standard UPPP were treated respectively. Single factor statistic analysis, multiple factors Logistic regress statistic analysis and Wilcoxon test method for related risk factors were applied.

RESULTSA total of 42 patients (7.0%) experienced postoperative bleeding. Among them, 24 patients with coblation assisted UPPP (9.1%) and 18 patients with UPPP (5.4%) had postoperative hemorrhage. Significant difference was not found in the degree of hemorrhage (z = 0.784, P > 0.05), hemorrhage site(χ(2) = 1.387, P > 0.05) and postoperative hemorrhage rates (χ(2) = 3.14, P > 0.05) between the two surgical techniques. Significant difference was found in the interval of hemorrhage after surgery between the two surgical techniques (χ(2) = 9.25, P < 0.01). History of hypertension, smoking, hepatic dysfunction was found to be correlated with the postoperative hemorrhage (Odd-ratio were respectively 7.326, 3.674, 2.707).

CONCLUSIONCoblation technique did not significantly increase UPPP postoperative hemorrhage.

The software of 3D-Modeling(UG NX 10.0) was used to design a new external fixator model for proximal femoral fracture, and fresh femoral cadaver specimens were used to simulate experimental operation. The results showed that the external fixator designed with the proximal femoral locking plate shape can improve the accuracy of Kirschner wire penetration into the femoral neck, reduce fluoroscopic and soft tissue incision injuries, and make a good stability and is easy to operate, which has a certain value for patients with proximal femoral fracture, such as intolerant surgery and poor physical condition.
