·AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of anti - vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) on pathological myopia (PM) combined with choroidal neovascularization (CNV). ·METHODS: Forty-three patients (45 eyes) diagnosed by fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), indocyanine green angiography ( ICGA ) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) with PM combined with macular CNV were recruited in this study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups for different treatments, intravitreal injection with Ranibizumab (20 patients, 22 eyes) and PDT(23 patients,23 eyes). After treatment, all patients had been followed up monthly for 12mo. The further treatments were operated according to referral situations. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was recorded with the ETDRS chart and the mean defect(MD) of the center 10° visual field was measured. At the last follow-up,the therapy efficacy was determined by ETDRS numbers and MD and analyzed. ·RESULTS: Before treatment, there was no significant difference on the baseline in ETDRS and MD between ranibizumab group and PDT group (P>0.05). After 12mo treatment, the ETDRS number in ranibizumab group (39.23±20.06) significantly increased (by 5.88 ± 9.03, P<0.05), but the PDT group (37. 38 ± 16. 95) was not significantly improved(by 0.33±6.94,P>0.05). The MD in ranibizumab group decreased significantly (P<0.05), and no significant change was found in PDT group(P>0.05). · CONCLUSION: In the treatment of macular CNV complicated by the PM, ranibizumab injection can improve visual function better than PDT.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the testicular blood flow in patients with testicular microlithiasis (TM) and its correlation with the seminal profile in infertile men.
METHODSWe selected 88 infertile men and examined them by testicular color Doppler and routine seminal tests.
RESULTSTesticular microlithiasis was found in 19 (19.3%) of the patients, classic testicular microlithiasis (CTM) in 7 (8.0%), and limited testicular microlithiasis (LTM) in 10 (11.3%). No significant differences were observed in the age of onset, bilateral testicular volume, resistance index (RI) of bilateral testicular arteries, semen amount and the rate of teratospermia. The bilateral testicular peak systolic velocity (PSV), sperm count and sperm motility were significantly lower in the CTM than in the LTM group (P < 0.05), but showed no statistically significant difference between the LTM and the non-calcification group.
CONCLUSIONTM may be one of the causes of poor sperm function in infertile men.

OBJECTIVETo study the influence of preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on pulmonary function and postoperative pulmonary complications in esophageal cancer patients.
METHODSPulmonary function and postoperative pulmonary complications of 63 esophageal cancer patients undergoing preoperative CRT and operation in Cancer Center of Sun Yat-sen University between 2002 and 2013 were collected retrospectively. The influence of preoperative CRT on pulmonary functional indexes and postoperative pulmonary complications were analyzed.
RESULTSAfter preoperative CRT, DLco% decreased significantly (83.7±17.7 vs. 96.4±17.8, P<0.01), while no obvious changes in other indexes were found. Postoperative pulmonary complication rate was 34.9% (22/63), including 19 cases of pneumonia and 3 cases of acute pulmonary injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome. Differences in postoperative pulmonary complication rates were not statistically significant between patients with DLco% <80 and those with DLco% ≥80 patients (29.7% vs. 41.7%, P>0.05), and between patients with DLco% decline ≥15% and those with DLco% decline <15% patients (31.6% vs. 37.8%, P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONPreoperative CRT can damage the diffusion function but not ventilation function of esophageal cancer patients, and does not increase the postoperative pulmonary complication rate.

OBJECTIVETo develop the national neglect norms for urban primary school students in China.
METHODSAccording to multi-stage stratified cluster sampling principle, 24 cities of 13 provinces (municipalities) in China were selected during December 1 to 31, 2008. A total of 1491 students in grade 1 - 3 and 2236 students in grade 4 - 6 were selected. Questionnaire was designed by authors and the final norms were determined through several statistical analysis methods, such as item analysis method, factor analysis method, reliability analysis method. The reliability analysis and validity analysis were used to test the stability and reliability of the norms. The evaluation criteria of the scale was determined by the percentile method, then the initial development of the norm was completed.
RESULTSThe two questionnaires of grade 1 - 3 and grade 4 - 6 students consisted of 55 and 57 items, respectively, whose item loadings were ranged from 0.301 to 0.687 and 0.321 to 0.730, which met the statistical requirements. For grade 1 - 3 students, the scale's total Cronbach α coefficients was 0.914, the total split-half reliability coefficients was 0.896, the Cronbach α coefficients of four level was above 0.737 except medical and social neglect, split-half reliability was ranged from 0.461 to 0.757; for grade 4-6 students, the scale's total Cronbach α coefficients was 0.916, split-half reliability was 0.883, except social neglect, the Cronbach α coefficients of other level was ranged 0.457 to 0.856, split-half reliability was ranged from 0.500 to 0.798. The total neglect cut-off score of the two scales grade 1-3 and 4-6 were 125 and 155, respectively.
CONCLUSIONThe structure of two norms was reasonable. The scales have good stability and reliability.
