OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical application of tissue engineering for treating tendon injury.METHODS: A computer-based online search was conducted in Medline and China Academic Journals Database with the key words of "Biological material, Sinew mechanism heals" in both English and Chinese from 1974 to 2009. Relevant books were hand-retrieved.RESULTS: Scholars at home and abroad tried to investigate how to regulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and matrix synthesis by endogenous and exogenous growth factors so as to promote tendon repairing, relieve tendon adhesion, and decrease attenuation of biomechanical intensity. Tendon detect was mainly treated by autologous tendon transplantation, allogeneic tendon transplantation, artificial tendon transplantation, and tissue-engineered tendon transplantation. All those methods had both advantages and disadvantages. However, artificial biomaterial tendon has attracted much attention and it has been used for clinical application. Of course, there are still more problems to be solved, for example, source of tissue-engineered seed cells, immunological reaction of allogeneic tendon cells, specific mechanical intension, preparation and selection of degradable scaffold materials, correlation between cell and scaffold materials, and correlation between cell-material compound and peripheral tissues. With the development of tendon repairing and healing, single drug which was used to prevent tendon adhesion has developed into drug-barrier compound. Additionally, with the development of Chinese herb and molecular biological products, they not only inhibited exogenous healing, but also promote endogenous healing. Meanwhile, simple surgery has also developed into combined therapy.CONCLUSION: Although biomaterials for tendon repairing have achieved breakthrough in some respects, the results need also to be further studied.

Objective: The cytologic methods were used in the diagnosis of cancerous change of (intraductal papillomas,IP) and its significance was discussed. Methods: We studied the nipple discharge smear by using Wright-Gimsa staining. Meanwhile, infrared ray scanning B-ultrasound and X-rays were performed. Results: One hundred and twenty-eight patients were with IP, among them, 15 (11.7%)were confirmed as tumors by surgery and pathological examination. The cancerous change of cytomorphology was based on IP. The average age of patients with cancerous change was 48.1.The nipple discharge in patients with cancerous change was primarily bloody(66.7%). Conclusion: Introductal papillomas is carcerous. The possibility of canceration in persons with longer time of nipple discharge is larger than those with shorter time of nipple discharge. Women who are elder than 45 years old, with nipple discharge and post menopause, should be considered to have the possibility of cancerous change.

Purpose To investigate the significance of u-PA and PAI-1 expression on the glomeruli, and the effect of heparin on their expressions in rat anti-thy1 glomerulonephritis. Methods We analyzed the cell proliferation and the expression of u-PA/PAI-1 on the glomeruli by immunohistochemistry and quantitative analysis of immunostaining. Results The cell proliferation of the glomeruli decreased significantly at 7 th,14 th,21 st day after heparin treatment in comparison to the glomerulonephritic group(P<0.05 or 0.01).The expression of u-PA and PAI-1 on the glomeruli in glomerulonephritic and heparin-treated groups was higher than that in the control group. At 3 rd,7 th,14 th,21 st day,the glomerular hypercellularity in the glomerulonephritic group was closely related to the increased expression of u-PA and PAI-1(P<0.05 or 0.01).At 3 rd,7 th day,the decreased cell proliferation of the glomeruli in heparin-treated group had close relationship with the decreased expression of PAI-1(P<0.05). Conclusions In rat anti-thy 1 glomerulonephritis model, the expression of u-PA and PAI-1 increased with glomerular hypercellularity;heparin treatment can decrease the extent of glomerular hypercellularity in rat anti-thy 1 glomerulonephritis. The treatment function of heparin might be related with the inhibitory effect of PAI-1 expression on the glomeruli.
