AIM: To study the effect of Aima recipe (AM), a traditional Chinese medicine, on the protein and mRNA expression of TNF? and ICAM-1 in the bronchus of rats with chronic bronchitis(CB). METHODS: 15 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group, chronic bronchitis (CB) group, CB plus AM group. The protein and mRNA expression of TNF? and ICAM-1 were assayed by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization methods. RESULTS: TNF?, ICAM-1 protein and mRNA were more strongly expressed in the area of bronchial epithelium in the CB group compared with control group ( P

[Objective] The disease distribution of in-patients in different age groups from 1993 to 2002 in respiratory disease department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was analyzed to provide evidence for clinical treatment. [ Methods ] A retrospective research was adopted. Fourteen categories of diseases and 3 age groups were classified according to the case history recorded from 1993 to 2002 in respiratory disease department of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of TCM. Reasons for hospitalization of the in-patients in different age groups during 10 years were analyzed by descriptive analysis and Vilfredo Pareto analysis. [Results] The principal and secondary reasons for hospitalization were respiratory tract infection, pulmonary tuberculosis and pneumothorax in the young age group while in the old age group, they were chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, chronic pulmonary heart disease and lung cancer. [Conclusion] The focus of daily medical treatment in the department of respiratory disease should vary with the age groups and disease categories, and the control of infectious diseases should be generally strengthened.

Objective To study the effect of Gualou Gancao Granules(GLGC)on influenza virus pneumonia mice. Methods The mice model of viral pneumonia was established by nose inhalation of influenza virus FM1.The treatment groups were administered GLGC with ribavirin served as control drug. The mortality, body weight, lung index, viral blood agglutination titer of influenza virus pneumonia mice were observed. Results Compared with the model group,GLGC can reduce the mortality of influenza virus pneumonia mice, prolong the average living days, inhibit the body weight decrease, and depress the lung index and viral titer distinguishingly. Conclusion GLGC,which derived from the therapeutic principle of clearing away heat-evil and eliminating sputum, has an affirmative effect on influenza virus pneumonia mice.

Objective To observe the action of Rhodiola Crenulate(RC) oral liquid reproduction function for the male rats. Methods 100 SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups with equal gender number respectively. The male rats were given RC oral liquid (0, 2.48 g/kg, 7.48 g/kg, 24.80 g/kg) and Nanbao (2.00 g/kg)by oral twice a day for 48 d, respectively. Then the male rat was put into the same box in which the female rat whit two-side ovarys were excised for 15 d, respectively. The intercoursing ability, testosterone levels, and the weight of immune organs of the male rats were examined. 40 four-week-old rats were divided into 5 groups. Except for blank control, all rats's testis were excised. The castrated rats were treated with RC oral liquid (2.48 g/kg, 24.8 g/kg)and Methyltestosterone (2.00 mg/kg). The blank control group and model control group were given the same dose NS by oral twice a day for 28 d, respectively. The weight of accessory sex organs in castrated rats was observed. Results The level of testosterone and the organ coefficients of thymus and spleen in RC oral liquid groups were higher than blank control (P<0.05 or P<0.01).The weight of accessory sex organs of castrated rats in RC oral liquid groups were heavier than model control (P<0.05). Conclusion RC oral liquid can improve the reproduction function in male rats.

Objective To discuss the diagnostic value of DSA for unknown reason hemorrhage of small intestine. Methods 25 patients with hemorrhage of small intestine were performed angiography with Seldinger's technique through superior mesenteric artery. Results Eleven cases demonstrated direct signs of hemorrhage,12 cases of indirect signs of hemorrhage and 5 with both of the signs. The positive rate of hemorrhage was 72% including 10 cases of tumor(6 leiomyomas,2 leiomyosarcomas,1 interstitial tumor,1 small intestinal cancer),4 cases of Meckel's diverticulum,3 cases of vascular malformation and 1 case of inflammation. The coincidence rate of positive cases with pathology was 75%and the diagnostic accuracy of localization was 100%.Conclusions DSA angiography is very helpful for determining the location and chara-cter of unknown reason hemorrhage of small intestine.(J Intervent Radiol,2006,15:221-223)

Objective To explore the effect and application of the clinical teaching method of stage-separated to targeted management in the comprehensive ICU. Methods ICU rotation learning plans were developed for 113 probationers and rotating physicians, who were given the training of stage-separated to targeted teaching. The program was divided into three stages based on corresponding teaching objective and comprehensive examination and assessment with combination the dynamic and static evaluation were carried out to three parts. Results The probationers and rotating physicians had significant improvement in the familiarity and mastery of ICU specialist knowledge and skills through the systematic training. Conclusion Such training program can effectively improve the ICU specialized quality and comprehensive ability of the probationers and rotating physicians and bring about better clinical teaching effect.

Objective To explore the effects of estrogen on apolipoprotein M ( apoM ).Methods ApoM mRNA was assayed in HepG2 cells by RT-PCR after incubation of estrogen with or without estrogen receptor antagonist at different concentrations and durations.SD female rats were divided into five groups:OVX group,Sham group,OVX+ EB group, normal group and normal + EB group. From a week of being operated, the rats were injected subcutaneously estradiol beuzoate or vehicle. After 12-hrs fasting, serum levels of triglycerides (TG),LDL-cholesterol,HDL-cholesterol,total cholesterol ( TC ) at months 1,2 and 3 after operation were measured. The expression of apoM in rats was detected by using real time RT-PCR and Western blot. Results Estrogen increased mRNA levels of apoM and apoAI in the HepG2 cells with a dose- and time-dependent manner, which could be abolished by addition of estrogen receptor antagonist.Serum apoM,TG,TC,HDL and LDL levels were significantly increased in the ovariectomized or normal rats which received estrogen treatment than those in OVX or normal group rats at month 1 after treatments. Conclusions Estrogen upregulates apoM expression via its receptor.

A comprehensive analytical method based on ultra performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was developed for the simultaneous determination of active components and anti-diabetic) drugs in propolis health foods. The samples were extracted by ultrasound extraction with methanol). The insoluble residue of extract was removed by freeze-centrifuging. The analysis was performed on an ACQUITY UPLC C_(18)) column(50 mm ×1 mm, i.d., 1.7 μm) utilizing a gradient elution profile and a mobile phase of 0.3% formic acid in water and acetonitrile. The analytes were detected using an electro spray ionization tandem mass spectrometry with multiple reaction monitoring. Qualitative and quantitative analysis was based on the peak area of the parent ion and two fragment ions. The LOD and LOQ level for 14 active components ranged from 0.7 mg/kg to 42.0 mg/kg and 2.2 mg/kg to 140 mg/kg respectively, and recoveries were 77.8%-113.6%, with the intra- and inter-day precision less than 15%. The LOD and LOQ level for 9 anti-diabetics) ranged from 0.1 mg/kg to 0.9 mg/kg and 0.3 mg/kg to 2.5 mg/kg respectively, and recoveries) were 79.3%-108.5%, with the intra- and inter-day precision less than 15%. The method is simple) and sensitive, and can be used for quality control of propolis.
