OBJECTIVETo investigate the placement of a long tube into the small intestine under fluoroscopic guidance and to evaluate its decompression effect on early postoperative small bowel obstruction (EPSBO).
METHODSFifty-four patients with EPSBO requiring decompression between April 2010 and July 2014 were enrolled in the study. Insertion of a long tube was guided by fluoroscopy. We first used the guide wire to pass the pylorus and then used the 10 Fr feeding tube as an exchangeable tube to put the superstiff wire into the duodenum. Finally the long tube could be passed over the guide wire through the pylorus into the intestine. The total procedure time, the radiation exposure time, and the incidence of complications were evaluated.
RESULTSThe long tubes passed into the jejunum on initial insertion for all patients, so the success rate of this technique was 100%. The long tube was inserted into ileum in 18 patients. The mean total procedure time was 34.4 ± 8.6 minutes, and the mean radiation exposure time 18.9 ± 6.8 minutes. A total of 47 patients (87%) experienced full recovery following long-tube decompression and without the need for surgical intervention.
CONCLUSIONSUsing the wire-exchange technique, it is easy to place a long tube into the small bowel under fluoroscopic guidance. This decompression method is safe and effective for management of EPSBO.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and safety of Chinese herbal medicine combined with systemic chemotherapy and/or regional arterial perfusion for pancreatic cancer with liver metastases (PCLM).
METHODSWe retrospectively selected 292 patients with PCLM who were treated by Chinese herbal medicine combined with systemic chemotherapy and/or regional arterial perfusion at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital from January 2001 to December 2010. All patients were assigned to the Western medicine treatment group (157 cases) and the integrative medicine treatment group (135 cases). Patients in the Western medicine treatment group were treated with gemcitabine (GEM)-based chemotherapy, and partial of them received regional arterial perfusion. Those in the integrative medicine treatment group additionally took Chinese herbs of clearing heat and eliminating mass for at least 4 weeks. The median survival time (MST) , adverse reactions and the incidence of complications were observed.
RESULTSThere was no statistical significance in general data between the two groups (P > 0.05). There was statistical difference in MST between the two groups (4.8 months vs 5.5 months, P < 0.05). No death occurred during chemotherapy or regional arterial perfusion. All toxic or adverse reactions were tolerable.
CONCLUSIONChinese herbal medicine combined with systemic chemotherapy and/or regional arterial perfusion was effective and safe, and it could be optimally selected as palliative therapy for PCLM.

Objective To establish an auditory evoked potential (AEP) detection system in zerbafish. Methods The AEP detection tank was designed and made, and then verified for its quality and reliability via four experiments: anesthesia experiment, swim bladder deflation, noise exposure and goldfish AEP test. Finally, zebrafish (total length form 10 mm to 46 mm) were determined using this system for AEP.Zebrafish randomly were divided into five groups according to total length (TL=12~15 mm, n=6;TL=17~20 mm,n=4;TL=22~26 mm, n=4;TL=32~37 mm, n=9;and TL=42~46 mm,n=12).Goldfish, as control group, were purchased for local petshop (TL=38~54 mm,n=8).Results The results of these four verifying experiments confirmed the biological, rather than artefactual, nature of the responses represented by the recorded waveforms. The AEPs were detected up to a much higher frequency limit (12 kHz) than previously reported. In this study, all fish demonstrated a range of hearing frequency from 100 Hz to 12 kHz without frequency expansion during development. The best hearing was observed at 600 Hz~1 kHz.The mean values of the frequency-averaged thresholds (mean SEM) were 141.7±1.32, 124.8±1.31, 121.8±1.49, 117.8 ±1.09 and 124.4±1.87 dB w, respectively, for the 5 TL groups. The AEP thresholds demonstrated both developmental improvement and age-related loss of hearing sensitivity. Conclusion An auditory evoked potential detection system of zerbafish has been established with stable performance and can be used for AEP detection of zebrafish.

Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2018;34(6):1138-1141,1146
AIM:To study the expression and prognostic functions of phosphoglycerate kinase 1 ( PGK1) in prostate cancer. METHODS:The prostatic samples were collected from the patients with prostate cancer and benign pros-tatic hyperplasia (BPH) in TCM-Integrated Hospital of Southern Medical University from Jan 2013 to Dec 2013. The pro-tein expression of PGK1 in the prostate specimens was detected by immunohistochemical analysis and Western blot. Fur-thermore, the correlations of PGK1 expression with the clinicopathological features and prognosis of prostate cancer were al-so evaluate. RESULTS:The expression of PGK1 in the prostate specimens was significantly up-regulated compared with the BPH individuals. In addition, the expression of PGK1 was significantly correlated with the local infiltration, Gleason score, TNM grade, bone metastasis, and serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentration. Finally, bone metastasis, serum PSA level and PGK1 expression were independent risk factors for prostate cancer illustrated by Cox analysis, and high expression of PGK1 was correlated with poor prognosis. CONCLUSION:PGK1 expression is an independent risk factor for prostate cancer, and it might act as a prognostic biomarker for prostate cancer.
