The population of bacterial physiological groups in tomato with different resistant to Ralstonia solanacearum was studied. The results suggested that endophytic bacterial communities and population in tomato variety changed with different resistant cultivars, different stages of tomato and seasons. It was con-ducted that the amount of ammoniation bacteria was the highest among the seven physiological bacterial groups. There were more ammoniation bacteria in high resistant tomato cultivars than that in high suscepti-ble cultivars. It may indicate that ammoniation bacteria played a key role in the occurrence of tomato bacte-rial wilt. In addition, the total amount of physiological bacteria in resistant cultivars was more than that in susceptible cultivars in different stages of tomato, and the tendency of changing displayed fluctuation. The average level of quantities of the ammoniation bacteria, nitrifiers bacteria, erobic nitogenfixing bacteria and desulphate reducer bacteria in summer were higher than that in winter, while the population of the sulphate reduced bacteria in winter was higher than that in summer. Furthermore, the amount of anaerobic bacteria was the least among them.

OBJECTIVE To study the isolation and resistance tendency of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-baumannii to antimicrobial agents from 1998 to 2004 to provide valuable data for infection prevention and therapy. METHODS We reviewed the isolation rates,distribution in clinical specimens and wards,and the resistance rates of(A.calcoaceticus-baumannii)to 14 kinds of antimicrobial agents from 1998 to 2004. RESULTS There was an increasing tendency of isolation rates of A.calcoaceticus-baumannii every year,which was 0.18% in 1998 but 1.48% in 2004.In the seven years,there was the highest isolation rate of 70.58% in specimens from respiratory tract,the next was from the urine(9.42%),and blood(4.63%).Concerning the wards distribution,ICU had the highest rate of 47.28%.In 1998,A.calcoaceticus-baumannii had resistance rates more than 50% only to one kind of antimicrobial agents(aztreonam),but in 2004,it had increased to thirteen kinds(except cefoperazone/sulbactam).About the fourteen kinds of antimicrobial agents we inspected,that were increased in their resistance rate.The highest increasing of resistance rate was ceftazidime from 11.1% in 1998 to 88.9% in 2004,the imipenem was second for 0.0% to 64.8%,and the third was sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim form 0.0% to 64.0%,while there still was an increasing resistance tendency to them. CONCLUSIONS The clinical isolation rate of A.calcoaceticus-baumannii is increasing,and it has higher resistance rates to many antimicrobial agents as well as an increasing resistance tendency to relatively susceptive antimicrobial agents every year.So physicians should prescribe on the basis of antimicrobial agents susceptibility tests in vitro.

OBJECTIVETo compare clinically therapeutic effects of warming needle moxibustion and simple acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis.

METHODSOne hundred and twenty cases conformed with the diagnostic criteria of knee osteoarthritis with TCM kidney-yang deficiency and cold syndrome were randomly divided into a warming needle moxibustion group and a simple acupuncture group. Guanyuan (CV 4), Qihai (CV 6), Zusanli (ST 36) and others were selected in the two groups. Their therapeutic effects were assessed with joint pain scale, knee osteoarthritis severity index scale and cold syndrome differentiation factors.

RESULTSBoth warming needle moxibustion and simple acupuncture could alleviate pain of knee osteoarthritis, improve dysfunction of the knee joint, reduce symptoms. The clinically basic cured rate and the total effective rate were 32.1% and 96.4% in the warming needle moxibustion group, which were better than 7.4% and 92.6% in the simple acupuncture group.

CONCLUSIONWarming needle moxibustion is an effective therapy for knee osteoarthritis with kidney-yang deficiency and cold type.

Objective:To observe the effect of acupuncture on the expression of mitochondrial proteome in hippocampus of senescence-accelerated mouse prone g (SAMPg) mice models with Alzheimer disease (AD),and to explore the possible protective mechanism of acupuncture on mitochondria.Methods:Sixty 6-month-old male SAMP8 mice were randomly divided into an acupuncture at acupoint group,an acupuncture at non-acupoint group and a model group,20 mice in each group.The 20 male senescence-accelerated mouse/resistance 1 (SAMR1) mice of the same age were used as a normal control group.Shenshu (BL 23),Baihui (GV 20),Xuehai (SP 10) and Geshu (BL 17) were selected for acupuncture intervention in acupuncture at acupoint group.After an 8-week intervention,mitochondrial tissues were extracted from the hippocampus.Differentially expressed proteins were identified by subcellular organelle proteomics.Western blot was used to verify the expressions of some related proteins in hippocampal mitochondria.Results:Compared with the model group,there were 13 differentially expressed protein spots in the acupuncture at acupoint group,of which,9 were up-regulated,including neurofilament light polypeptide (NFL),actin (cytoplasmic 1,database ID:ACTB),tubulin beta-2A chain (TBB2A),tropomodulin-2 (TMOD2),pyruvate dehydrogenase E1 component subunit beta (PDHE1-β),NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase 75 kDa subunit (database ID:NDUS1),heat shock cognate 71 kDa protein (HSC71),pyruvate dehydrogenase E1 component subunit alpha (PDHE1-α) and ATP synthase beta subunit (ATP-β);4 were down-regulated,including glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP),pyruvate dehydrogenase phosphatase 1 (PDP1),mitochondrial-processing peptidase subunit alpha (MMP-α) and adenosine kinase (ADK).According to the information provided in the protein database,most of the differentially expressed proteins involve the regulation of mitochondrial function and structure.The expression levels of NFL and TBB2A in the normal control group and the acupuncture at acupoint group were significantly higher than those in the acupuncture at non-acupoint group (P＜0.05).ATP-β and NDUS1 expression levels were significantly higher in the acupuncture at acupoint group than those in the acupuncture at non-acupoint group (P＜0.05);there was no significant difference between the acupuncture at non-acupoint group and the model group (P＞0.05).Conclusion:Acupuncture may achieve the potential therapeutic effect on AD by regulating the structure and functional proteins of hippocampal mitochondria.

Objective To observe the possible association of serum adiponectin level with testosterone level in patients with isolated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism(IHH).Methods The diagnosis of IHH was made,based on clinical presentations,laboratory examinations of hormones and GnRH stimulation test.Serum adiponeetin and testosterone levels were measured in 23 IHH patients and 15 normal men.Results After matched for weight,blood pressure and waist-to-hip ratio,serum testosterone level in IHH group was significantly lower than that in control group [(0.23?0.18 vs 4.20?1.90)?g/L,P

OBJECTIVE: To compare the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome (MS) using 3 working definitions proposed respectively by the World Health Organization (WHO, 1999) , the Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults ( ATP III, 2001 ), and the Chinese Diabetes Society ( CDS, 2003). METHODS: MS was diagnosed in 739 male medical examinees by the 3 working definitions respectively, then the prevalence and the concordance of 3 working definitions was compared. RESULTS: Among 739 participants the prevalence was 36.9% by the WHO definition, 11.8% by the ATP III definition and 21.0% by the CDS definition. Among all the testees 68.6% were classified as either having or not having the MS under the 3 definitions. The consistency in the diagnosis of MS was 72.5% by the WHO definition and the ATP III definition, 81.2% by the WHO definition and the CDS definition, and 83.5% by the ATP III definition and the CDS definition. The prevalence of insulin resistance was the highest among the components of the WHO definition. The prevalence of hypertension was the highest while the prevalence of obesity was the lowest by the ATP III definition. Among the components of the CDS definition, the prevalence of obesity was the highest. The fasting insulin and insulin resistant index (HOMA-IR) were both significantly higher in the MS subjects than that in the non-MS subjects. CONCLUSION A universally accepted definition of the metabolic syndrome is needed.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the medium-term curative effects of locking proximal humerus plate for the treatment of comminuted fractures of proximal humerus, and provide evidences for the clinical practice.

METHODSFrom August 2005 and April 2008, 23 patients with comminuted fractures of proximal humerus were treated with locking plates, including 12 males and 11 females, aged 27 to 76 years old (averaged 51.5 years old). There were 18 cases of traffic accident injuries, 4 cases of falls injuries, and 1 case injured after heavy pressure. According to Neer classification, 11 cases were three-part fractures, and 12 cases were four-part fractures. Outcomes were assessed with radiography and the Constant-Murley (C-M) shoulder evaluation.

RESULTSAll the patients got primary healing of incisions. Twenty-three patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 17 to 49 months, with an average of 35.25 months. Twenty patients had fracture healing during 4 to 7 months after operation. There was no significant differences among 3, 6 and 12 months after operation in C-M scoring. The average C-M score was (79.85 +/- 17.23) points (38 to 100 points) at the 12th month after operation, 8 cases got an excellent result, 8 good, 5 fair, and 2 poor. In the LPHP plus bone graft group 6 cases got an excellent result, 4 good, 3 fair, and 1 poor; in LPHP fixation group 2 excellent, 4 good, 2 fair,and 1 poor.

CONCLUSIONThe medium-term curative effect of the locking proximal humerus plate in the treatment of proximal humeral fractures is significant. For the comminuted fractures of proximal humerus combined with osteoporosis and bone defects, bone graft should be performed routinely.
