Background Abnormality of intraocular pressure (IOP) leads to ocular shape change and functional damage.Previous study on the influence factors of IOP mostly focus on eye tissue,but the research of systemic affecting factor is lack.Objective This study was to survey the distribution of IOP and its association with the systemic factors in Chinese population.Methods A cross-section study was designed in this study.The subjects were enrolled from the government employees physical check-up cohort in Guangzhou.IOP was measured using non-contact tonometry.The height,weight and blood pressure were measured based on a presupposed standard protocol.Fundus and slit lamp examinations were performed by trained ophthalmologists.Frequency-doubled perimetry was carried out in the subjects with the suspicious optical disc abnormality,and abnormal perimetry result and operated eye were rejected in the survey.The operative history was learned by questionnaire.Stata 11.0 was used for the data analysis.Results Total 7763 subjects finished all the examination,including 4213 male and 3550 female.Four hundred and fifteen subjects were excluded due to previous intraocular surgery and glaucoma,and the clinical data of the right eyes of 7348 subjects who were eligible for the protocol were brought into statistical analysis.The mean IOP was (15.6±2.8) mmHg in the subjects,and that in the male and female subjects was (15.6±2.8) mmHg and (15.7±2.8) mmHg,respectively,showing a statistically significant difference (t =2.415,P =0.016).A good consistence was found in the IOP between the right eyes and the left eyes (r=0.830,P＜0.001).The IOP value in the subjects presented with a near normal distribution.IOP value was gradually decreased with the increase of age.Multivariate regression suggested a negative correlation between IOP and age or gender (P＜0.001) as well as a positive correlation between IOP and body weight index (BMI),systolic blood pressure or diastolic blood pressure (P ＜0.001).Conclusions Similar to other studies in East Asia population,IOP is associated with age,gender,BMI,systolic and diastolic blood pressure in this survey.

Drug therapy is one of the efficient methods for prostate cancer treatment. However, drug resistance greatly hindered the treatment of prostate cancer patients. Herein, the mechanisms of drug resistance in prostate cancer have been exhaustively reviewed, and that can provide an alternative strategy and new targets for anti-prostate cancer therapy.

Abstract?AlM:To evaluate the accuracy and practicability of three - dimensionally preformed Arbeitsgemeinschaft Osteosynthese AO titanium mesh plates for orbital fractures.?METHODS:Forty-seven patients with isolated blow-out orbital fractures were included in this study. Fracture locations were as follows: floor/medial wall ( n = 26, 55%), medial wall ( n = 12, 26%), and floor ( n = 9, 19%) . The floor fractures were exposed by a standard transconjunctival approach, whereas a combined transcaruncular transconjunctival approach was used in patients with medial wall fractures with temporary dissection of inferior oblique muscle. A three -dimensionally preformed AO titanium mesh plate was selected according to the size of the defect previously measured on the preoperative computed tomographic scan examination and fixed at the inferior orbital rim with 2 screws. The accuracy of plate positioning of the reconstructed orbit was assessed on the postoperative computed tomography ( CT) scan. The practicability of clinical use of AO three - dimensionally preformed titanium mesh plates was assessed on the preoperative and postoperative clinical data.?RESULTS: Postoperative orbital CT scan showed an anatomic three- dimensional placement of the orbital mesh plates in all of the patients. All patients had a successful treatment outcome without clinical complications. 40 patients ( 87%) had a successful enophthalmos correction. 25 patients ( 86%) had a successful recovery from diplopia.?CONCLUSlON: Three- dimensionally preformed AO titanium mesh plates for orbital fracture reconstruction results in an accurate anatomic restoration of the bony orbital contour with a high rate of success to correctenophthalmos and diplopia.

Ergosterol is the important component of the fungal membrane, and having stable structure. This makes it a suitable indicator for growth of fungi. In the paper, isolation and determination techniques of ergosterol as the indicator of the fungal biomass were reviewed. The methods of extracting ergosterol include traditional saponification and refluxing, rapid physical disruption, rapid ultrasonication, supercritical fluid extraction and so on. The ergosterol determination methods are high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and thin-layer chromatography, et al. The application of these techniques was also introduced. Finally, the paper prospected the feasibility of applying the ergosterol as the indicator of fungal biomass in composting.

In order to find an easy and rapid quantitative analytical method to detect rhamnolipid produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, three methods, H_ 2 SO_ 4 -anthrone analysis method, L-cysteine-H_ 2 SO_ 4 method and phenol-H_ 2 SO_ 4 method, were compared in the present paper, and the influence factors were also considered.The results showed that H_ 2 SO_ 4 -Anthrone analysis method was better than the others and its optimal reaction condition was obtained.The influence to the quantitative analysis of rhamnolipid from the residual glucose and the top clean liquid layer in the ferment solution could be ignored.But the influence from the bacterial body and the middle layer of the ferment solution reached a certain degree.Thus, the bacterial body should be removed before measuring.However, the influence from the middle layer of the ferment solution could be avoided by making a standard curve which was made by using a rhamnose mixed with the middle layer ferment solution.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the clinical character and pathological variants as well as response to treatment of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis(FSGS) in children.Methods The clinical feature, laboratory data and histological variants of 48 children with idiopathic FSGS proven by renal biopsy were studied retrospectively. Among them,34 were boys;14 cases were girls. The age ranged from 1.75 to 16.0 years.Results Of 48 children with FSGS,nephrotic syndrome in 32(66.7%)was the predominant clinical manifestation. The pathological classification included FSGS not otherwise specified(NOS) in 29 cases(60.42%), perihilar variant in 14 cases(29.17%), tip variant 3 cases(6.25%), cellualr variant 2 cases(4.17%)and no collapsing variant. The different pathological variants had similar rate of segmental sclerosis glomeruli; perihilar variant had a higher global sclerosis glomeruli than FSGS NOS and other variants and there was a statistical significance(P 0.05).Vascular lesions were rarely seen in all kinds of histological variants of children.Conclusions Hypertension and renal insufficiency are less frequently seen in children FSGS, isolated hematuria as unique clinic presentation is common in FSGS. All pathological variants have tubular-interstitial lesions, but vascular lesions are rarely seen. Most FSGS children with nephrotic syndrome are sensitive to steroid at initial stage, and easy to develop frequent relapse gradually, immunosuppressive agent may be helpful to elevate remission rate.

Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and unveil the current status of diagnosis and treatments. Methods The registry data from 23 medical centers cover different areas of China. A total of 2030 new cases of RCCs in the 23 centers from Au-gust 2007 to October 2008 were collected, in which 1975 cases had integrated data for analysis. The symptoms, diagnostic techniques, pathology features, and therapeutic selection were analyzed. Re-sults A total of 1975 new cases were reviewed, with 1329 males and 634 females. The male and fe-male ratio was about 2.1 : 1.0. Of all cases, 1238 patients (62.7%) were asymptomatic and detected by examination, while 711 patients (36.0%) were symptomatic. 1260 patients (63.8%) were clinical stage Ⅰ , most of them were asymptomatic. 1844 patients were treated surgically, 1500(81.3%) un-derwent radical nephrectomy, 325 (17. 6%) underwent partial nephrectomy. Among the operations, open operation was performed in 1493 cases(81.0%), laparoscopic procedure in 351 cases(19.0%). There were 1522(84.5%) clear cell carcinomas, 98 (5.44%) papilliform renal cell carcinomas. Con-clusions Routine health examination could be an important way to diagnose early stage RCC. Open radical nephrectomy is the most often used surgical technique among the centres of present study.
