Objective To study the change and the significance of T-lymphocyte immune function in peripheral blood in population living in arsenic-contaminated area. Methods Fifty-three cases of patients with arsenism symptoms were selected into experimental group, inhabitants who had no chronic arsenism symptoms into control group in the endemic area of Shuocheng District, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province in 2006. Vein blood samples were taken and analyzed with SAP assay to measure the percentage of CD3+ ,CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells. Results It was found that the percentage of CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/CD8+ [(41.89 ± 11.58)%, (25.60 ± 9.05)% and 1.02 ± 0.41] in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group [(68.38 ± 7.23)%, (39.17± 4.28)% ,1.69 ± 0.56, t = 13.61,18.72,14.79, all P < 0.05], while there was no statistical differences of CD8+ [(25.30 ± 6.85)%] compared to the control group[(23.54 ± 8.35)%,t = 3.07,P > 0.05]. The gender-related effect of arsenic on CD4+ and CD8+ was found by multiple linear step regression analysis(t = - 3.05, - 4.30, all P < 0.05). In case group, there were no statistical differences in CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and CD4+/CD8+[(40.65±10.06)%, (24.48 ± 6.29)%, (24.52 ± 8.16)%,0.98 ± 0.25] between males and females [(43.07±12.96)%, (26.77±3.12)%, (26.50 ±9.32)%, 1.07 ±0.41, t = - 0.76,3.05,0.30,2.10, all P > 0.05]. Conclusions The immune function of T-lymphocytes of patients with chronic arsenism has been suppressed. It is of active significance to detect T-lymphocyte subpopulation in peripheral vein in patients with chronic arsenism aiming at estimating the function of cell immune and providing early diagnosis index.

Objective To explore the incidence of operation complications and clinical curative effect of microsurgical vascular decompression on treatment of patients with common cranial nerve diseases. Methods One hundred and sixty-six patients with hemifacial spasm and 45 patients with primary trigeminal neuralgia, admitted to our hospital from September 2006 to May 2011,were collected in our study; all the patients under, vent microvascular decompression via a posterior sigmoid sinus key hole approach.Complications were analyzed after surgery for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm patients to find the difference on complications between these 2 diseases. And at least 3-month clinical follow-up after microvascular decompression surgery was carried out to note the differences on disappearance of cranial nerve symptoms between 3 d and 3 months after the surgery. Results Postoperative fever in the patients with hemifacial spasm and trigeminal neuralgia was seen in 51 and 14 patients, prosopoplegia in 7 and 1 patient, hearing impairment in 4 and 2 patients, incisional cerebrospinal fluid leakage in 5 and 2 patients, and intracranial infection in 3 and 2 patients, respectively. Symptom disappearance was noted in 109 patients with hemifacial spasm 3 d after the surgery and in 153 patients 3 months after surgery with a cure rate up to 92.2%; 44 patients with disappearance of symptoms during the 3rd d to the 3rd months of surgery had delayed healing. The symptom disappearance was observed in 40 patients with trigeminal neuralgia 3 d after the surgery and in 42 patients 3 months after the surgery, with a cure rate reaching 93.3%. Conclusion No significant difference in the incidence of operation complications is noted between patients with trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm treated by microvascular decompression via a posterior sigmoid sinus key hole approach; the surgery enjoys exact effectiveness; and postoperative patients with hemifacial spasm may gradually get recovery in a short term.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on the serum levels of cytokines in severely burned patients.
METHODSThirty-six burn patients were enrolled in the study and were randomly divided into 3 groups according to the rhGH dosage used, i.e. small (0.3 IU.kg(-1).d(-1), A), large (0.6 IU.kg(-1).d(-1), B) dose groups and control group (C, with normal saline). The rhGH was administered beginning from 3 postburn days (PBDs) and lasted for 20 days. The dynamic changes in the serum levels of TNFalpha, IL-6, IL-8 and LPS at different time points were observed.
RESULTSWhen compared with those in C group, the serum levels of TNFalpha, IL-6 in A, B groups were decreased, especially in B group with earlier decrease and bigger range (P < 0.01). Simultaneously, the serum LPS level was decreased accordingly with evident positive correlation with the change in those cytokines (r = 0.9723, P < 0.01). But there was no obvious difference in serum IL-8 level among A, B and C groups (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONrhGH might decrease the production of postburn inflammatory mediators, especially in higher dose in dose-dependent manner for some degree. The clinical application of rhGH might be a supplementary measure in preventing and ameliorating postburn SIRS and MODS in severely burned patients.
