Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(2):171-174
Two cases of suprasellar papillary craniopharyngioma are presented. The tumors are exclusively composed of well-formed papillary squamous epithelium and show morphologic homogeneity. There is no palisading basal layer in squamous epithelium. Clinical and radiologic findings, exclusive occurrence in adult and lack of calcification, are much different from conventional craniopharyngioma. Differences between papillary craniopharyngiom and conventional craniopharyngioma are discussed.

Glassy cell carcinoma is an unusual neoplasm of the uterine cervix with highly aggressive clinical behavior. On cervico-vaginal smear examination, the tumor has well confused of atypical repair cell of the endocervix. Recently, we have experienced two cases of glassy cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix, diagnosed on cervico-vaginal smears and confirmed on following histologic sections. The cervico-vaginal smears revealed abundant clusters with well defined boarders. The cell clusters were composed of large tumor cells. The tumor cells had distinct granular cytoplasm and eosinophilic macronucleoli. Characteristic cytologic features of this tumor were discussed in view of differential diagnosis.

To investigate the role of the p53 gene in the development of endometrial adenocarcinoma and to study the relation between alteration of the p53 gene and histologic grade, the author studied the alteration of thep53 gene in hyperplastic lesions and adenocarcinomas of the uterine endometrium. The study was carried out with immunohistochemical stain and PCR-SSCP. The materials included ten cases of endometrial hyperplasia (five simple and five atypical complex) and 18 cases of endometrial adenocarcinoma. Overexpression of the p53 protein were found in one of five atypical complex hyperplasias (20%) and 11 of 18 adenocarcinomas (61.1%). The intensity of p53 overexpression appeared to have increasing tendency with higher histologic grade of adenocarcinomas. Among the II cases of adenocarcinoma that overexpressed p53 protien, five cases (45.5%) were found to have mutations by PCR-SSCP. One was grade 1 (20%), two were grade 11 (25%), and two were grade III (40%). The sites of mutation were three exon 8, one exon 5, and one exon 6. In conclusion, alteration of the p53 gene may paly a role in the development of endometrial adenocarcinoma and appears to occur as a late event in carcinogenesis.HHowever, inactivation of the p53 gene in early stage of tumor development cannot be excluded.

Korean Journal of Cytopathology 1990;1(2):121-128
Endometrial papillary serous carcinoma (EPSC) is a distinct variant of endometrial adenocarcinoma that histologically resembles ovarian serous papillary adenocarcinoma and has an aggressive clinical course. Usually, the tumor is diagnosed at the advanced stage. The tumor has well confused with metastatic ovarian tumor of identical histology. Diagnosis of EPSC should be considered when the cervico-vaginal smear reveals numerous papillary clusters of tumor cells with macronucleoli and psammoma bodies. Recently, we have experienced two cases of EPSC diagnosed on cervico-vaginal smears, which revealed characteristic cytologic features including numerous papillary clusters of tumor cells with macronucleoli. The cytologic diagnoses were confirmed on histologic sections.

Pulmonary Embolism, one of the causes of maternal death, is a life threatening disease that needs early and accurate diagnosis. We have exprerienced a case of a fatal pulmonary embolism which was diagnosed by lung perfusion scan on the postoperative 1 day after cesarean delivery and was managed with heparin therapy. We present this case with a brief review of literatures.

Tracheal bronchus is an aberrant bronchus that arises most often from the right tracheal wall above the carina and is the result of an additional tracheal outgrowth early in embryonic life. It; incidence ranges between 0.1 and 5%. This anomaly is usually diagnosed incidentally during bronchoscopy, bronchography or computed tomography. Occasionally, it represents the underlying etiology for chronic pulmonary disease, especially if it involves the right upper lobe and reflects an abnorrnal pulmonary clearing mechanism. The tracheal bronchus may be associated with other bronchopulmonary anomalies, tracheal stenosis, or Down's syndrome. Asymptornatic tracheal bronchus does not require any treatment. In case of tracheal bronchus associated recurrent right upper lobe diseases, tracheal bronchus therapy should include resection of the aberrant bronchus as well as the lob it supplies. We report a case of rabbit syndrome in a 28-year-old man with chronic active epilepsy and mental retardation. He developed fine and rhythmic perioral involuntary movements with mild parkinsonism several months after he had been administered with neuroleptics. His movements had a rhythmic pattern consisting of 2-3 Hz with a resting period for 1- 2 seconds. They were remarkably reduced with benztropine. Parkinsonism also improved with benztropine.

Korean Journal of Urology 2003;44(9):851-854
PURPOSE: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostatic peripheral 10-sites biopsy method for the diagnosis of prostatic cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: TRUS guided biopsy of peripheral 10-sites, including routine sextant and 4 far lateral regions (lateral mid-lobes and bases), was performed in 78 patients with suspicious prostatic cancer. The patients were categorized into 2 groups; the benign disease group and the prostatic cancer group, according to the pathologic results. Various parameters were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: Prostatic cancer was detected in 32 patients (41%). The median age and PSA of the prostatic cancer group, 70.5 years and 25ng/ml, respectively, were significantly higher than those of the benign disease group, 63.5 years and 9.7ng/ml, respectively (p<0.05). The average Gleason scores and number of cancer positive biopsies of the prostatic cancer group were 7.3 (4-10) and 4.5 (1-10), respectively. A far lateral region only tumor was discovered in 1 (3.1%) of the 32 patients. The cancer detection rate increased with increasing PSA level (p<0.05). Patients with a prostate volume of less than 50cc showed significantly higher cancer detection rates than those with a prostate volume of more than 50cc (p<0.05). Fifty-four patients (69%) experienced complications and 4, with symptomatic urinary tract infection, recovered uneventfully with the application of parenteral antibiotics on admission. CONCLUSIONS: There was a 3.1% increase in the cancer detection rate with the use of a peripheral 10-sites biopsy compared to the sextant method. The use of additional biopsies, including those of the far lateral apex region, with the 10-sites biopsy method is suggested would increase detection rates.

10.Moderating effects of leader-member exchange (LMX) on job burnout in dietitians and chefs of institutional foodservice.
Nutrition Research and Practice 2011;5(1):80-87
The objectives of the study were to investigate job burnout and leader-member exchange (LMX) levels as well as to evaluate buffering effects of LMX on burnout among dietitians and chefs at institutional foodservices. Hypotheses were proposed based on the Job Demands-Resources model and LMX theory. The study population consisted of dietitians and chefs who were in charge of managing unit operations in a nationwide contract management company. Positive/negative affectivity, workload, job burnout, and LMX scales that had been validated in previous research were adopted. A total of 552 questionnaires were distributed and 154 responses were returned. Results indicated that respondents' burnout levels were moderate and emotional exhaustion was greater than cynicism. In terms of LMX, the surveyed dietitians and chefs showed higher respect toward their supervisors than loyalty. When positive affectivity and negative affectivity were controlled, workload influenced emotional exhaustion and professional efficacy significantly. With affectivity and workload controlled, however, LMX did not influence any dimensions of burnout. The moderating effect of LMX on the relationship between workload and cynicism was significant. That is, the effect of workload on cynicism was weak if the dietitians and chefs perceived the relationship with their supervisor positively. Based on the findings and literature reviewed, how to mitigate job burnout among foodservice managers is discussed.
