Background: Inter1eukin-6(IL-6) is known to be produced by osteoblastic cells and to have impartant role in regulation of bone remodelling, Most previous studies indicated that IL-6 bas a major role in stimulating osteoclastic resorption by increasing recruitment and proliferation of preosteoclasts. But its autocrine effect on osteoblastic cells has not been well established yet. Therefore, we studied the effects of IL-6 on messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of proteins that are characteristic of osteoblastic cells in human bone marrow stromal (osteoprogenitor) cells (hRMSC). Methods: The expression of mRNAs for alkaline phosphatase, al(1)-collagen, osteopontin and decorin were studied by northern blot analysis after 3 7 days' treatrnent with IL-6 in the concenttation range of 101,000 U/ml. Results: The mRNA levels for any of the osteoblastic proteins studied did not change significantly by IL-6 treatment up to the concentration of 1,000 U/ml. Conclusion: These results suggest that IL-6 does not have a significant role in differentiatian or activities of human bone rnarrow stromal.

7.A Case of Bilateral Bridges of a Korean Atlas.

Korean Journal of Physical Anthropology 2004;17(3):177-185
We report a case of bilateral bridges of atlas of a Korean atlas and accompanying variation of the course of the left suboccipital nerve that was observed during the practice of the human anatomy in Seonam university, college of medicine. Bridges of atlas across the groove for the vertebral artery run inferomedially from the posterior margins of the superior articular processes to the posterior margins of the grooves. Widths of the narrowest middle portions of the bridges are 5.05 mm at the left and 0.7 mm at the right. Superior and inferior widths of left bridge are 11.6 mm and 10.9 mm, and of the right are 4.45 mm and 4.65 mm respectively. Cross-sectional areas of the foramina formed by bridges of atlas are 34.7 mm 2 at the left and 29.3 mm 2 at the right. These sizes are much smaller than the sizes of the transverse foramina of the atlas at each side, but diameters of the second and third portions of the left vertebral artery are same as 4.3 mm. At the junction between the left bridge and the posterior arch distinct suture line was observed. Because of the relatively wide bridge, the left suboccipital nerve runs more laterally than the right. It turns to the posterior, pierces the obliquus capitis inferior muscle, and branches out to adjacent suboccipital muscles. Branch to the rectus capitis posterior muscles obliquely cross over the suboccipital triangle to these muscles.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 2000;42(4):671-673
A lipomatous tumor originating in the uterus is a rare benign neoplasm, and most reported cases have been of the mixed type. Authenticated cases of pure lipomas of the uterus are extremely rare. We report one such case in which the findings of magnetic resonance imaging provided the basis for preoperative diagnosis.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine 1997;21(4):790-794
Chronic progressive radiation myelopathy(CPRM) is a rare but serious complication of radiation therapy. It's exact cause is unknown and the diagnosis is usually made based on the exclusion of other causes of myelopathy. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) with gadolinium- diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid(DTPA) enhancement seems to be useful for the diagnosis of CPRM. There is no known effective treatment and the complication is irreversible. We report a case of CPRM after radiation therapy for subglottic cancer which was not respond to high-dose steroid therapy with review of literature.
