China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 2011;24(5):434-435
OBJECTIVETo explore the choice of therapeutic methods for talar fractures and analyze its clinical effects.
METHODSFrom October 1998 to October 2009, 44 patients with talar fractures were treated in the study, of them, 38 cases obtained follow-up, in which 10 cases with plaster external fixation, 22 cases with open reduction and internal fixation, 6 cases with Blair joint fusion. There were 28 males and 10 females, ranging in age from 19 to 65 year with an average of 33.5 years. According to classification of Matti-Weber, type I was in 3 cases, type II in 15, type III in 16, type IV in 4. The clinical effects were evaluated by the Hawkins standard including pain, active range of the joint, limping.
RESULTSThe mean time of follow up was 4.8 years (range, 1 to 11 years). According to the Hawkins standard, in 10 cases with plaster external fixation, 4 cases obtained excellent results, 2 good, 3 fair, 1 poor; in 22 cases with open reduction and internal fixation, 2 case obtained excellent results, 6 good, 6 fair, 8 poor (the 8 patients accepted second treatment with joint fusion at 3 to 5 years after operation, affected limb of 1 patient occurred crispation for 3 cm, walking with limp, and further treatment was refused result in poor, and others got fair results); in 6 cases with Blair joint fusion, 1 case obtained good results, 4 fair, 1 poor. Diaz disease was found in 12 cases and traumatic arthritis was found in 13 cases in the period of follow-up.
CONCLUSIONTalar fracture usually results in complications and gets bad prognosis. The prognosis is relative with the traumatic degree. Plaster external fixation beseems to the displacement of fracture less than 2 mm; open reduction and internal fixation beseems to the displacement of fracture more than 2 mm; Blair joint fusion beseems to talar body fracture with total dislocation or whose talar body fracture is comminuted severely and the surface of joint can not be repaired.

To investigate the protective effect of the seed oil of Abelmoschus esculentus on gastric ulcer, two acute gastric ulcer mice models were established by intragastric administration of aspirin or absolute ethanol, respectively.Clinical index of ulcer area, ulcer index, gastric volume, gastric pH value, free acidity, total acidity, and histopathological assessment were measured to evaluate the injuries of gastric ulcer and the protective effect of okra seed oil In order to comprehensively uncover the possible underlying mechanism,a series of biochemical assays were also performed, including serum TNF-α,IL-6,IL-10 and Tbil,NO,MPO and SOD in the stomach included. Moreover, the ALT,AST and ALP in the liver of mice were also tested to evaluate the possible hepatic toxicity of the seed oil.The results indicated that the seed oil of A.esculentus exerted protective effect in ethanol-induced gastric ulcer mice by reducing the ulcer area and ulcer index, declining the free and total acidity, and increasing the pH value of gastric content.Histopathological observation showed the gastric mucosa of the acute gastric ulcer mice induced by alcohol was incomplete and severely damaged, with submucosal edema and nuclear pyknosis,as well as glandular structure disappearing, compared with that of normal mice. What's more,a number of inflammatory cell infiltration occured in the gastric mucosa of alcohol-model mice, with messes of neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils and plasma cells.Okra seed oil could improve the damaged structure of the gastric mucosa and gland caused by ethanol, but could not ameliorate the condensation of nucleus and infiltration of inflammatory cells.Biochemical analysis revealed that the seed oil of A.esculentus could counteract the damage induced by ethanol via decreasing Tbil and TNF-α in serum, decreasing NO and myeloperoxidase, and increasing SOD in stomach.Meanwhile, okra seed oil exhibited protective effect in aspirin-induced gastric ulcer mice by increasing the gastric content pH,and reducing free and total acidity.Compared with the control group, the gastric mucosa of aspirin-model group showed multifocal coagulation necrosis, sheet edema and infiltration of inflammatory cells by histopathological assessment.Compared with the aspirin-model group, the soybean oil group and okra seed oil group could ameliorate the inflammatory cell infiltration.Biochemical analysis revealed that okra seed oil could counteract the injury induced by aspirin via decreasing TNF-α and IL-6,and increasing IL-1O in serum, decreasing NO and MPO and increasing SOD in stomach. In a word, the okra seed oil exerted protective effect on acute gastric ulcer by anti-inflammation,anti-oxidation and hepatocyte protection. The okra seed oil deserves further development and utilization.

Objective To investigate the effects of different concentrations of crocin on receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclastogenesis using the monocyte-macrophage cell line RAW264.7. Methods The monocyte-macrophage cell line RAW264.7 was cultured routinely. After treatment with 0,6.25,12.5,25, 50,100,200 and 400 μmol/L crocin, cell counting kit-8(CCK-8)assay was used to analyze the viability of RAW264.7 cells to screen out the appropriate experimental concentration. RAW264.7 cells were induced by RANKL (100 ng/L) to form osteoclasts. After treated with 0, 12.5, 50 and 100 μmol/L crocin respectively, the number of osteolasts was counted by tatrate resistant acid phosphatasec (TRAP) staining. Real-time PCR was used to detect the mRNA expression levels of calcitonin receptor(CTR),nuclear factor of active T cells 1(NFATC1),C-fos and TRAP.Results No significant effects of crocin (within 0-100 μmol/L) were found on the viability of RAW264.7 cells (P>0.05). However, When crocin concentration was over 100 μmol/L,the cell proliferation was decreased, and which showed a significant inhibitory effect on proliferation (P<0.05). Thus, 0-100 μmol/L crocin was selected as the experiment concentration. The amount of differentiated osteolasts and the expression levels of CTR,NFATC1,C-fos and TRAP mRNA were decreased significantly with the increased concentrations of crocin(P<0.05).Conclusion At a certain concentration(0-100 μmol/L),the higher levels of crocin could inhibit RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis.

The change of yield and contents. of active compositions were studied while the fibrous roots were decayed naturally. HPLC method was used to detect the contents of active composition. The results show that fibrousroots could decrease the production of plant by 38.60% (20 g) and 30.99% (40 g), respectively. Treatment 1 could increase the contents of dihydrotanshinone and cryptotanshinone of Salvia miltiorrhiza f. alba by 26.08% and 22.64%, respectively. Compared with the comparison, treatment 2 decreased the contents of ihydrotanshinone, cryptotanshinone, tanshinone I and tanshinone II(A) of S. miltiorrhiza f. alba by 60.87%, 79.24%, 84.61% and 88.99%, respectively. Meanwhile, the total contents of the liposoluble constituents reduced by 86.27%. The different concentration of fibrousroots could increase the content of salvianolic acid B by 4.98% (20 g) and 23.64% (40 g), respectively. Meanwhile, the content of rosemary acid was increased by 4.98% (20 g) and 23.64% (40 g), respectively. The content of water-soluble constituents positively correlated to the mount of added fibrousroots, and the change was significantly. The result indicted that the decay of fibrousroots has a significant impact on the growth and the content of the active composition of S. miltiorrhiza f. alba under the condition of continuous cropping. Fibrousroots could decrease the content of biomass and liposoluble constituents significantly, which maybe one of the main factors to S. miltiorrhiza f. alba continuous cropping obstacle formation.

The effects of the feed attractants on Whitmania pigra were studied. The average weight of Wh. pigra were 5.0 g. Arginine was selected as feed attractants, xanthan gum was selected as feed substrate. The times of Wh. pigra going into the inducing room were recorded. The water temperature was 22-25 degrees C during the whole experiment. Arginine that had better inducing effect was chosen to carry on in the gradient experiment. The results showed that the best inducing effect was found when the added amount of arginine was 0.3%, which was close to the arginine content of the natural body fluid of Wh. Pigra and Bellamya purificata, 2.97 mg x g(-1).
