Objective To study whether hyperthermia and ionizing radiation could produce combined effects on the neurobehaviors of neonatal rats.Methods These rats who were pregnant for 8 or 9 days received respectively total body irradiation by 60Co-rays .When the rats were pregnant for 10 days,the temperature of rat anus was kept at (37?0.5) ℃,(41?0.5) ℃,(42?0.5) ℃,respectively in warming boxes and lasted for 2,3,4,5 minutes.The neurobehaviors of neonatal rats were observed.Results In contrast to control group and 37 ℃group ,when pregnant rats were exposed to high temperature.the neonate rats were delayed for the appearance of four physiologic markers,the age of acquisition for four reflexes and the time of learning and memory(P

Currently, hip replacement is an effective treatment for some hip joint diseases. The friction and wear of a prothesis in the human body are the main causes for the failure of joint arthroplasty. It is, therefore, very important to simulate the working conditions of a hip prosthesis in order to get an optimal design and successful clinical applications. This article summarizes wear testing methods of hip prostheses and the developing status of their simulators. Three key aspects of the simulators, i.e., the structures, motions and lubrications, are analyzed in detail. At the end, the developing trend of the simulators are discussed.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the correlation of neutral alpha-glucosidase in seminal plasma with the location of epididymal obstruction in azoospermia men.

METHODSWe detected neutral alpha-glucosidase activity in the seminal plasma of 59 men with obstructive azoospermia followed by determining the location of epididymal obstruction by scrotal exploratory surgery. Then we analyzed the correlation between neutral alpha-glucosidase and the location of epididymal obstructive azoospermia.

RESULTSAmong the total number of patients, there were 25 cases of bilateral cauda epididymal obstruction, 15 bilateral corpus, 12 bilateral caput, 4 unilateral caput-opposite cauda, and 3 unilateral corpus-opposite cauda. The neutral alpha-glucosidase levels in the seminal plasma of bilateral cauda, corpus and capus epididymal obstructions were (4.1 +/- 1.9), (13.8 +/- 4.4) and (46.8 +/- 19.3) mU per ejaculate, respectively, with statistically significant differences among the three groups (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONNeutral alpha-glucosidase activity is significantly correlated with the location of epididymal obstruction in azoospermia men, which helps to locate epididymal obstruction, evaluate surgical prognosis and reduce the time of scrotal exploratory surgery.

Four new triterpenoids, together with six known analogues, were isolated from an aqueous extract of the Ziziphus jujuba var. spinosa seeds, by multiple column chromatographic separation methods using stationary phases of macroporous adsorption resin, MCI resin, normal phase silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and Toyopearl HW-40C as well as preparative thin-layer chromatography and reversed-phase HPLC. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic data analysis, the new structures were trivially named jujubaceanothoside A (1), 23-epijujuboside A (2), and jujubosides J and K (3 and 4), while the known analogues were identified as jujubosides A-C (5-7) and II (8), alphitolic acid (9), and betulinic acid (10). The structure of 1 was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Ten dimeric phthalide racemates (1-10) were isolated from an aqueous extract of the Angelica sinensis root head (Guitou) by separation techniques of column chromatography over macroporous adsorbent resin, MCI resin, silica gel, and Sephadex LH-20, together with preparative thin-layer chromatography and reversed phase HPLC. The racemates were further separated into (+)-/(-)-1-(+)-/(-)-10 with chiral HPLC. Their structures including absolute configurations were elucidated by comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data, combined with electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and NMR calculations as well as single crystal X-ray diffractions. Compounds (+)-/(-)-1-(+)-/(-)-10 are either new structure or new natural product, named (+)-/(-)-angelidipthalidic acids A-H [(+)-/(-)-1-(+)-/(-)-8] and (+)-/(-)-angelidipthalidols A and B [(+)-/(-)-9 and (+)-/(-)-10], respectively. Meanwhile, dimeric phthalide mono- and bis-lactone derivatives with 3.3′a,8.6′- and 3.6′,8.3′a-coupling patterns as well as determination of their relative configurations are discussed.

Five new megastigmanes (1-5) were isolated from a decoction of Uncaria rhynchophylla by separation techniques of column chromatography using a combination of multiple stationary phases, including macroporous adsorbent resin, MCI resin, silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and Toyopearl HW-40F, and reversed phase HPLC. Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic data analysis of HR-ESI-MS, NMR, and CD, in combination with Mosher's mothed as well as ECD and NMR calculations. The new compounds were named uncarphyllonone A (1), uncarphyllonols A (2) and B (3), and uncarphabscisic acids A (4) and B (5). Although the structures of 3 and 4 were previously reported, the reported NMR spectroscopic data were incorrect or do not support the assigned structures in literatures. This is also the first report of discovery of new megastigmane natural products from the Uncaria genus.

We present a rare case of colonic metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and review the literature.A 54-year-old male was referred to our hospital with a history of bloody stools and fever.A dght kidney tumor measuring about 10 cm in diameter was found by abdominal computed tomography.Right radical nephrectomy and a right hemicolectomy with ileotransversostomy were performed.Pathological diagnosis was chromophobe RCC with sarcomotoid change involving the colon.Chromophobe RCC with sarcomotoid change is very rare.

BACKGROUNDThe influence of inflammatory processes has been one of the hot topics in discussions of the etiology of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Erythrocytes are very important in controlling inflammatory immunity and innate immune reactions. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between the development of CVI and the change of CD35, Fy6 on erythrocytes, and interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels.

METHODSA group of 43 patients with CVI were studied in parallel with 8 healthy individuals serving as control subjects. Control subjects were those with normal findings on lower extremity duplex examinations. We used an erythrocyte flow cytometer to examine the expression of both CD35 and Fy6 on red blood cells, and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay analysis method to measure plasma IL-8 levels. We also analyzed the change of IL-8 levels under the influence of erythrocytes using a modified method of the hemaimmune reaction.

RESULTSCompared with normal control subjects, CD35 expression increased significantly among patients with CVI classified as C4 without lipodermatosclerosis, but tended to decrease and reach the lowest level among patients classified as C5-C6. Fy6 expression increased significantly among patients in the early stages of CVI, but tended to decrease remarkably among patients classified as C5-C6. The inflammatory response intensified at the C5-C6 classification, where high levels of IL-8 coexisted with a low expression of Fy6. The increase in IL-8 in the CVI group was higher than in the control group in association with the complete blood cells, regardless of the presence of erythrocytes, when inactive tumour cells were added, whereas the level of IL-8 in the CVI group was significantly lower than in the control group.

CONCLUSIONSAbnormalities of erythrocyte innate immunity represents a fundamental derangement in CVI. These inadequate inflammatory responses may lead to local tissue and microvascular damage of the lower extremity.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the management and prognosis of thyroid well-differentiated carcinoma invading the upper aerodigestive tract.

METHODSA retrospective analysis of the management was performed done 62 patients with thyroid well-differentiated carcinoma invading the upper aerodigestive tract. The main method of surgery was shaving excision, and the other means including partial thyrochondrectomy, total laryngectomy, sleeve tracheal resection, sternocleidomastoid myoperiosteal flap and myodermal flap reconstruction, or simply palliative excision. Some patients received postoperative radioactive isotope therapy and radiotherapy. All patients were followed-up for 2 to 15 years with an average of 6.5 years.

RESULTSThe best curative effect was proved in the patients with local invasion, with the lumen uninvolved and their locoregional control rate was 100.0% (17/17). And the second choice was in patients with more extensive involvement of the upper aerodigestive tract structures. For them, extensive surgical management was done attempting to remove all gross disease followed by reconstruction, their locoregional control rate was 87.5% (7/8). And the third place was designated to patients with local invasion for which shaving excision was performed even though minor residual disease was left, their locoregional control rate was 55.6% (5/9). The poorest result went to simple palliative excision. For 17 patients with minor residual tumor, the locoregional control rate of those who were given postoperative radioactive isotope therapy was significantly higher than those without.

CONCLUSIONAccording to the limits and degree of invasion in the upper aerodigestive tract by thyroid well-differentiated carcinoma, different ways of surgery is indicated. For patients with residual disease, radioactive isotope therapy should be used to improve the result and life quality. Advanced lesions should be given postoperative radio therapy.
