1. Role of endothelial progenitor cells in healing aneurysms with flow diverting stents
Chinese Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2011;8(2):87-90
Objective: To investigate whether endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) involved in the early healing process of aneurysms with flow diverting stents and the mechanisms. Methods: Five clean rabbits were chosen to prepare the animal model of aneurysm on the right carotid artery. After EPCs were cultured autologously, they were double labeled by Hoechst 33342 and carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidylester (CFSE). The aneurysms of rabbits were treated using flow diverting stents. The labeled EPCs were retransfused autologously via veins. EPCs involving in the intimai repair of aneurysms were observed with Cell tracking technology after 2 weeks. In combination of scanning electron microscopy, pathology and immunohistochemistry, EPCs involving in the process of intimal repair were analyzed. Results: Circled digit oneTwo weeks after simple flow diverting stents treatment, the rabbits were reexamined. Their aneurysms did not visualized completely (5/5). The aneurysms were obliferated completely, and the aneurysm necks were covered with neointima. Circled digit twoHoechst33342 and CFSE double-labeled positive cells were found in aneurysm sections. In the aneurysm sections of 2 experimental animals (2/5) , the positive cells were in the neointima. Circled digit threeScanning electron microscopy and immunohistochemistry results suggested that only a few amount of endothelial cells repaired the intimai surface. Conclusion: EPCs involved in the process of early intimal healing of aneurysms.

OBJECTIVETo compare clinical efficacy of anatomic locking plate and Gamma nail in treating unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures with external wall fractures.
METHODSFrom June 2010 to June 2014,clinical data of 44 patients with intertroehanteric fractures associated with lateral wall fractures (type 31A2.2-3.3) followed more than 12 months, which treated with Gamma nail or anatomic locking plate, were retrospective analyzed. Sixteen patients were treated with anatomic locking plate, including 6 males and 10 females aged from 32 to 83 years old with an average of 56.5 years old. Twenty-eight patients were treated with Gamma nail including 17 males and 11 females aged from 26 to 87 years old with an average of 60.4 years old. Operative time, intraoperative fluoroscopy times, blood loss (intraoperative and hidden blood loss), hospital stays were observed and compared. PPMS and HHS scoring were used to evaluate postoperative clinical effect.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 12 to 24 months with an average of 16.2 months. Operative time in Gamma nail was shorter than anatomic locking plate; while blood loss( intraoperative and hidden blood loss) and intraoperative fluoroscopy times in anatomic locking plate were less than that of in Gamma nail. There was no significant meaning in hospital stays between two groups. Postoperative full weight-bearing time in anatomic locking plate was prolonged than Gamma nail. At the final following-up, PPMS in Gamma nail was 7.50 ± 1.78 and 6.82 ± 1.38 in anatomic locking plate, and there was no obvious meaning between two groups (t = 2.341, P = 0.132); there was no significant differences in HHS score between Gamma nail (83.25 ± 11.18) and anatomic locking plate (86.14 ± 12.36) (t = 1.923, P = 0.243). The incidence of complications in Gamma nail was less than anatomic lock-ing plate (P = 0.005).
CONCLUSIONAnatomic locking plate for intertrochanteric fractures with external wall fractures could avoid re-injury of external wall, especially for severe comminuted fractures, difficult for intramedullary nailing, and there was no significant meaning in hip joint function compared with Gamma nail, while postoperative incidence of complications was higher than Gamma nail, so early weight-bearing was not stress.

World Journal of Emergency Medicine 2011;2(4):310-313
BACKGROUND: The study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of acute renal failure (ARF) caused by oral acyclovir. METHODS: A 45-year-old Chinese male patient with acyclovir-induced ARF suffered from abdominal pain for one day. The pain was extended to the epigastric area from the right lower quadrant. Transient oliguria was seen in addition to microscopic hematuria and proteinuria. The serum creatinine concentration was 304 μmol/L. Eight days before the occurrence of ARF, the patient took oral acyclovir for facial neuritis. RESULTS: His renal function was restored completely following the discontinuation of acyclovir, with continuous renal replacement therapy for 54 hours and some symptomatic treatment. CONCLUSION: The presentation of acute renal failure caused by acyclovir can be diverse, but the prognosis is good after active treatment.

Objective:To observe the effects of AFP gene silencing by siRNA on the Survivin mRNA of hepatocellular carcino-ma cell line HepG2. Methods:AFP gene expression was downregulated in HepG2 cell by RNAi, and the AFP content in the superna-tant was detected by ELISA. Survivin mRNA level was tested by RT-PCR. MTT was applied to evaluate cell proliferation. Flow cytom-etry was employed to observe cell apoptosis. Results:At 48 h after transfection, AFP expression was almost completely inhibited, cell proliferation activity was decreased by 43.1%, cell apoptosis rate was increased by 24.3%, and the Survivin mRNA expression was re-duced to 22.0%in the experimental group. No evident changes were observed in negative control and blank groups. Conclusion:AFP gene silenced by RNAi induces growth inhibition and apoptosis promotion of hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HepG2. This gene may be associated with the suppression of Survivin mRNA.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate clinical outcomes of fixation for the treatment of radial head fracture with collapse of anterior articular surface.
METHODSFrom March 2006 to January 2013,17 patients with radial head fractures with collapse of anterior articular surface were analysed. According to the Mason classification, there were 12 cases with Mason type II fractures and 5 cases with Mason type III fractures. All the patients were treated with open reduction through posterolateral entrance of elbow joint and Herbert or titanium cannulated screw internal fixation.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 6 to 18 months, with a mean of 11.3 months. According to the Broberg and Morrey score system, 2 patients got an excellent result, 12 good and 3 fair. There were no complications such as infection of elbow joint, nerve injury, non-union, traumatic osteoarthritis, heterotopic ossification and elbow instability. However, the postoperative activity range of elbow in the injuried side was less than that in the normal side.
CONCLUSIONRadial head fracture with collapse of anterior articular surface is easily misdiagnosed, and it can be treated with open reduction and internal fixation through posterolateral entrance.

Neuroscience Bulletin 2008;24(6):381-386
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease. The etiology and pathogenesis of MS remain unclear. At present, there are substantial evidences to support the hypothesis that genetics plays a crucial role. The people who have genetic predisposing genes easily develop immune-mediated disorder, probably in conjunction with environmental factors. The aim of this review is to describe recent observations regarding the immunologic pathogenesis of MS.

To investigate the role of distribution and phylogeny of phenylethanoid glycoside in medicinal plants of Gesneriaceae, five phenylpropanoid glycosides, acteoside, paraboside B, isonuomioside A, paraboside II, and paraboside III were quantitatively determined in 12 species of Gesneriaceae by HPLC. The existence and content of these compounds were analyzed. The results showed that phenylethanoid glycosides were found in the most of those plants, but the kind of phenylethanoid glycosides varied in different species. Acteoside distribute in most of this plant group, paraboside B, isonuomioside A, paraboside II, and paraboside III were rare in those plants. The results of this study support morphological viewpoint that Trib. Trichosporeae is more developmental than Trib. Didymocarpeae.

This study aims to investigate the preparation process and in vitro release behavior of artesunate polylactic acid microspheres, in order to prepare an artesunate polylactic acid (PLA) administration method suitable for hepatic arterial embolization. With PLA as the material and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the emulsifier, O/W emulsion/solvent evaporation method was adopted to prepare artesunate polylactic acid microspheres, and optimize the preparation process. With drug loading capacity, encapsulation efficiency and particle size as indexes, a single factor analysis was made on PLA concentration, PVA concentration, drug loading ratio and stirring velocity. Through an orthogonal experiment, the optimal processing conditions were determined as follows: PLA concentration was 9. 0% , PVA concentration was 0. 9% , drug loading ratio was 1:2 and stirring velocity was 1 000 r x min(-1). According to the verification of the optimal process, microsphere size, drug loading and entrapment rate of artesunate polylactic acid microspheres were (101.7 +/- 0.37) microm, (30.8 +/- 0.84)%, (53.6 +/- 0.62)%, respectively. The results showed that the optimal process was so reasonable and stable that it could lay foundation for further studies.
