To revise Chinese Diet Balance Index (DBI) based on the current Chinese Dietary Guidelines and Food Guide Pagoda . Method: Seven food components [(cereals ,vegetables and fruits, bean and dairy , animal food , alcohol ,condiments (salt and edible oil))were selected in combination with food varieties and drinking water to build up Diet Balance Index Revision (DBI-07) .The components were weighed and assigned cut-offs and scores based on the Chinese Food Guide Pagoda. Three scoring methods (LBS-low bound score, HBS-high bound score, DQD-diet quality distance) were used to evaluate the dietary quality of 26300 adults aged 18 to 79 years from 2002 China National Nutrition and Health Survey. Results: The mean LBS, HBS and DQD were 11.5,30.0 and 41.5 respectively. About 78% adult were in moderate or severe deficit of food intake, 35.1% in moderate or severe surplus of food intake, and 43.8% in severe dietary imbalance. Conclusion: DBI-07 can reflect the principles of dietary guidelines, and the scoring method can reflect both deficit and surplus of food intake. DBI-07 can be used to evaluate the dietary quality of individual or the population.

Aim To investigate the effects of osthol on bone marrow stromal stem cells in vitro under the con-ditions of the ability to differentiate into osteoblasts and the case of proliferation. Methods The rat bone marrow sample was obtained, and the all bone marrow cell culture methods were used to separate and collect the stratum of mononuclear cells. The cells were cultured in DMEM containing 10% fetal bovine serum. Three days later the culture medium was changed for the first time. Nine days later, serial subcultivation proceeded. The final concentration of osthol was 1 ? 10 -4,1 ? 10 -5,1 ? 10 -6,1 ? 10 -7 mol?L -1 respectively. MTT method was adopted in proliferation analysis. Under the induced condition, the Alkaline phosphatase activity, calcium salt sediment yield and osteocalcin were meas-ured on 4th,8th,12th,16th day. On the fifteenth day,his-tochemistry dyeing proceeded for calcified tubercle. Total RNA was isolated and the gene expression of bFGF, IGF-1,Osterix and Runx-2 was investigated by RT-Real Time PCR. Results The BMSCs proliferation was refrained by osthol dose-dependently. But it evidently led to osteogenesis. The ALP activity, calcium salt sediment yield and osteocalcin were raised, and calcified tubercle amount was increased. Besides,it also could enhance the mRNA level of bFGF,IGF-1,Osterix and Runx-2. Conclusion The osthol with final concentra-tion of 1 ? 10 -5 mol?L -1 can markedly promote BM-SCs differentiation to osteogenesis. which proves osthol is an active constituent of the traditional Chinese medi-cine Common Cnidium Fruit.

Objective To analyze the distribution, diversity, and the sensitivity of common pathogen species to antifungal drugs in fungal keratitis during 2000 - 2006 in Shandong province. Methods Samples from corneal serapings and corneal buttons from keratoplasties were used for fungal culture and identification. The distribution and diversity of the pathogens in different years were analyzed. The sensitivity of some common species to antifungal drugs were tested. Results A total of 898 patients were diagnosed as fungal keratitis, in which 770 (85.7%) were positive in fungal culture. Pathogens in 748 cases caused by fungal infection were identified, of which 547 cases were caused by Fusarium (71.0%). The prevelence of Fusarium from 2000 to 2006 was 75.5%, 72.8%, 71.5%, 75.2%, 76%, 68. 8% and 56.4% respectively. Eighty-four cases were caused by Aspergillus( 10.9% ) , which accounted for 15.1% , 15.2% , 13.1%, 10. 2%, 10. 4% , 8.0% and 6. 9% of the cases from 2000 to 2006, respectively. Seventy-four eases were caused by Alternaria (9. 6% ), the percentage of which during 2000 -2006 was 1. 9%, 3.3%, 3.7%, 6. 6%, 8. 8%, 12. 0 and 29. 7% respectively. In genus Fusarium, 10 species were found and the most common species were Fusarium Solani ( 33. 8% ), Fusarium oxysporum ( 28.2% ) and Fusarium moniliforme( 27.4% ). Six species were identified in genus Aspergillus, with Aspergillus flavus (53.6%) and Aspergillus fumigatus (39.3% ) being the most common species. The geometric mean MICs of amphotericin B, terbinafin, itraconazole, 5-flucytosine and fluconazole against the common species were 0. 647, 0. 714, 1. 624, 15. 108 and 27. 070 μg/ml, respectively. The mean MICs of the above five antifungal drugs against Fusarium were 0. 899, 0. 893, 3.077, 37. 124 and 21. 687 μg/ml, respectively, and for Aspergillus, the mean MICs of these agents were 0.794, 0.591, 0.416, 23.973 and 7.127 μg/ml, respectively; for Alternaria, the MICs were 0. 409,0. 479,0. 433,11. 655 and 7. 104 μg/ml ,respectively. Conclusions Genus Fusarium, Aspergillus and Alternaria were the predominant pathogens in fungal keratitis in Shandong Province. During 2000 -2006, Fusarium was the most common one, followed by Aspergillus. The percentage of Aspergillus decreased annually. The third most common pathogen, Alternaria increased during the period. The geometric mean MICs of amphotericin B and terbinafin against Fusarium were lower than those of itraconazole, 5-flucytosine and fluconazole. The MICs of these five anti-fungal drugs against Aspergillus and Alternatia were lower than those for Fusarium.

Objective To investigate the effects and signal transduction pathway of vasonatrin peptide(VNP),a novel man-made natriuretic peptide,on hepatic fibrosis. Methods Mice were injec ted with carbon tetrachloride(CCl4)for 12 weeks, with or without VNP treatment in the last 6 weeks.HE staining and Sirius red staining were performed to evaluate the status of hepatic fibrosis. In vitro after treatment of VNP,and DNA and collagen synthesis of cultured HSC-T6 hepatic stellate cells were assessed by[3H]-thymidine and[3H]proline incorporation, respectively. The signaling pathway involved was identified by radioimmunoassay to detect the levels of intracellular cGMP,and by mimicking experiments using 8-br-cGMP(a membrane-permeable cGMP analog).Blocking experi ments were performed using HS-142-1,an antagonist of guanylyl cyclase-coupled natriuretic peptide receptor(NPR),or KT-5823,the cGMP-dependent protein kinase(PKG)inhibitor. Results VNP markedly alleviated CCl4-induced liver fibrosis in mice.In vitro,HSC-T6 cells demonstrated a dosedependent reduction of DNA and collagen synthesis in the presence of VNP.In addition,VNP significantly increased intracellular levels of cGMP.The effects of VNP were mimicked by 8-br-cGMP,but they were inhibited by HS-142-1,or KT-5823.Conclusion VNP ameliorated liver fibrosis by inhibiting collagen production from hepatic stellate cells via guanylyl cyclase-coupled NPR/cGMP/PKG signal pathway, indicating that VNP might be a new effective agent in the treatment of liver fibrosis.
