BACKGROUND: Previous studies have demonstrated that acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) combined with partially deproteinized bone (PDPB) (aFGF/PDPB) well promotes avascularization in animals with early-stage avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH), but the histological results remain unknown.OBJECTIVE: To observe the histological repairing effects of aFGF/PDPB on early-stage ANFH in rabbits. METHODS: New Zealand rabbits were established models of bilateral ANFH and were randomly divided into a blank group, a simple PDPB group, and an aFGF/PDPB group. PDPB and aFGF/PDPB bone were implanted into the PDPB and aFGF/PDPB group accordingly. The blank group did not receive any implantation. At 2, 4, and 8 weeks after surgery, all animals were sacrificed for histological examination to observe the osteogenesis by hematoxylin-eosin staining.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Defects were filled with granulation tissues and fibrous connective tissues, only a little osteoid tissue formed at the borderline in the blank group at the end of the 8th week. In the PDPB group, a little new bone and cavitas medullaris formed. At 8 weeks, lots of graft was absorbed and cavitas medullaris formed with more osteoplasts and myeloid cells in it. The osteogenesis in the aFGF/PDPB group was better than that of PDPB group in each time point. At 4 weeks, the transplanted cavity was filled with osteoid tissues, a lot of osteogenic precursor cells and osteoblasts could be seen. Plenty of micrangium was observed, and osteoid tissues began to rebuild. At 8 weeks, the graft was replaced by bone tissues, and cavitas medullaris were formed with lots of bone marrow cells in it. At the borderline of the bone trabecula, there were lots of osteoplast and little osteoclasts, which may play a role in bone remodeling. There were mature bone cells in bone lacuna. Results indicate that aFGF/PDPB has better repair effect on rabbit model of ANFH than that of simple PDPB.

7.Effects of basic fibroblast growth factor on endothelial function and structure of the basilar artery of atherosclerotic rats
Acta Anatomica Sinica 2014;(4):469-474
Objective To study the protective effect of basic fibroblast growth factor ( bFGF ) on endothelial function and structure of the basilar artery of atherosclerotic rats .Methods A total of forty-eight male adult Wister rats were randomly divided into the normal control , the atherosclerosis ( AS) model and the bFGF treatment groups .The AS model group and the bFGF treatment group were injected with a single dose of vitamin D 3 (6 ×105 IU/kg) and loaded with high fat diet for six consecutive weeks .The bFGF (9.5μg/kg, twice one day) was injection into the abdominal cavity after six weeks in the bFGF treatment group for two weeks , and an identical volume saline was given for the AS model group and the normal control group .After eight weeks , all the rats were sacrificed .The relaxation percentages of the isolated basilar artery in response to acetylcholine ( Ach) were detected and the pathological lesions of them were observed under a light microscope .ELISA and colorimetry assayed the content of serum VEGF and basilar arterial nitric oxide ( NO) .The basilar artery was used for primary culture of both vascular endothelial cells (VECs) and vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). The influence of bFGF on the proliferation vitality of VECs was measured in vitro with MTT assay.TRITC-phalloidin labeling the cytoskeleton microfilament of VSMCs was observed by laser confocal microscopy .Results The early AS plaques were presented after six weeks by hyper lipid foods .Compared with the AS model group , the relaxation percentage of the isolated basilar artery , the content of both serum VEGF and basilar arterial NO in the bFGF treatment group were obviously increased, but the pathologic injury of the basilar artery was significantly decreased (P<0.05).The proliferation vitality of VECs was obviously increased (P<0.05); the cytoskeleton microfilament of VSMCs was of obviously improvement .Conclusion AS may aggravate the basilar arterial injury , but bFGF may efficiently improve the arterial endothelial function and decrease the pathological lesion of the basilar artery in the AS model rats , which may promote the arterial protective effect .

Almost 3% of newborns are diagnosed as small for gestational age(SGA)worldwide.Born SGA is one of the important causes of perinatal morbidity and mortality, and is also associated with metabolic diseases in adulthood.Low birth weight by itself is insufficient to characterize growth restriction,as it does not include information about the neonate’s body proportionality.Depending on the origin, timing and severity of in-sult,small for gestational age infants are classified into two types:proportionate or symmetric growth restriction (SGR)and disproportionate or asymmetric growth restriction(AGR).There may be differences in physical and neurological development of these two types. This study compares three classification indexes, and to find differ-ences in postnatal growth of these two types.

Chinese Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2015;(19):1466-1469
Objective To understand the distribution of overweight and obesity in 0-5 years old children who were born small for gestational age ( SGA) in Shanghai through a cross-sectional investigation. Methods All resident children aged 0-5 years were included, covering all 18 districts in Shanghai. Health-check cards were prepared for SGA children. The check-up included weight,length/height and head circumference. Body mass index ( BMI) was used to evaluate the overweight and obesity according to the standard of World Health Organization ( WHO) . Results This study investigated 728 602 children aged 0-5 years in Shanghai, and ultimately 23 871 of them were defined as SGA,a-mong whom 9 805(41. 4%) were boys and 14 066(58. 9%) were girls. The BMI of SGA children were higher than that of appropriate for gestational age( AGA) from 4 to 18 months, while for the rest of the time, they were basically the same. There was no difference in changing tendency of BMI between SGA children and those AGA children. The distri-bution of overweight and obesity according to the standard of WHO in SGA boys among different ages was 7. 7% to 20. 7%, and 15. 7% in average;the distribution of SGA girls among different ages was 5. 9% to 18. 3%,and 12. 9% in average. The proportion of overweight at the age of 4-18 months was significantly higher than that of other ages. There was no correlation between overweight at 0-2 years old and overweight at the age of 5(P>0. 05). Conclusions Com-pared with SGA girls, overweight and obesity in SGA boys were more serious. The age of 4-18 months were the period of high incidence of overweight. There was no correlation between overweight at 0-2 years old and overweight at the age of 5.
