1.Epigenetic modifications in mental disordersZhang
Chinese Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Brain Science 2017;26(6):492-496
Mental disorders are caused by the synergy of genetic and environmental factors, and epigenetics provides a bridge for mental disorders between environmental exposure and genetic background. This review discussed the role of epigenetics on the development of mental disorders, especially in schizophrenia and depression.DNA methylation, histone acetylation, histone methylation,ncRNA,depressive disorder and schizophrenia were used as searching terms.('Schizophrenia OR depressive disorder') and all field of DNA methylation/histone acetylation/histone methylation/ncRNA were taken as index strategy.67 related articles in database of PubMed,ScienceDirect in March 2017 were acquired.41 articles were enrolled as reviewing materials according to literature screening.Existing researches suggest that epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, histone acetylation, histone methylation, and ncRNAs,may be associated with the occurrence of mental illnesses and play key roles in the pathogenesis of mental illnesses, especially in schizophrenia and depression.Further studies on them could provide us novel insights into the pathogenesis of these disorders and effective treatments based upon epigenetic mechanisms.

Objective To investigate the factors that influence the fermentation process of compound Chinese medicine and determining the optimum fermentation with single factor experiment and response surface methodology. Methods Through controlling the factors in the fermentation process of compound Chinese medicine (such as fermentation bacteria, fermentation time, fermentation temperature, inoculum amount, etc.), with its increase rate of total peak area as evaluation indicator, the alcohol extracts before and after fermentation were monitored and comparative evaluated by HPLC, and the optimum fermentation process was determined by response surface methodology. Results The fermentation process optimized by single factor experiment and response surface methodology was as follows:SZ-2 strain served as the fermentation bacteria, temperature was 33 ℃, inoculum amount was 4%, and time was 3.5 d, the average increase rate of total peak area was 31.24%. Conclusion HPLC can be used to identify and evaluate the fermentation of compound Chinese medicine under the different factors, and to clarify the optimal fermentation process by response surface methodology, which provide reference for the development of fermentation process.

Objective To develop a Chinese military psychosomatic health scale(CMPHS) and examine its reliability and validity. Methods Based upon the previous researches, the Scale was compiled according to open-ended inventory survey. The data was collected from 1050 subjects chosen by random cluster sampling. 60 of them were tested with the CPSHS at the same time, while 61 of them were retested with the CMPHS after two weeks. The reliability and validity were examined by exploratory factor analysis ( EFA) and correlation analysis. Results According to the factor analysis results, 11 factors were extracted, namely espiratory apparatus, alimentary system, skeletal and musculature, integument, regeneration and endocrine, nervous system, anxiety, depression, psy-choticism and family history. There were 91 items in the formal scale when one lie subscale was added. The correlation between subscales were 0. 103 ~ 0. 778 (P < 0. 01) , the correlation between subscales and total scale were 0.600 ~0.859(P<0.01). The test-retest correlation coefficients of total scale and subscales were 0.427 ~0.901 (P < 0.01); the Cronbach (α) coefficients were 0. 643 ~ 0. 935 (P < 0. 01) ; and the split-half correlation coefficients were 0. 349 ~ 0. 855 (P < 0. 01 ). The correlation coefficients were 0. 425 ~ 0. 979 (P < 0. 05 or 0. 01 ). Conclusion The Chinese military psychosomatic health scale has acceptable psychometrics properties on reliability and validity.

Peacekeeping is a military operation under certain conditions. In the special operations, the military personnel will have a special emotional response, mainly tension. It includes physical and psychological stress, based on the cognition and evaluation of the environment and forms of military activities. The psychological problems of peacekeepers caused by peacekeeping operation have been identified as one of the major reasons for non-combat attrition. Thus, researches on mental health of peacekeepers should not be ignored. So,we reviewed the interaction between peacekeeping operations and peacekeepers'mental health, and a few psychological intervention techniques to provide theoretical and practical basis for serving peacekeepers with mental health.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the anti-earthquake military rescuers' psychosomatic health and social support, and observe the effect of intervention to the army men who suffered troubles. Methods By cluster random sampling, 152 military rescuers and 139 army men not taking part in the rescues were investigated by Facility Psychosomatic Health Scale and Social Support Rating Scale. Mental intervention or medication was performed to those produced psychosomatic health. Results The scores of somatic symptoms, mental status, psychosomatic health and social support of military rescuers and the control group were (4.09±4.70) ,(2.18 ±3.16) ,(6.27 ±7.08) ,(6.14 ±4.20) and (2.11 ±4.16) ,(1.37 ±3.09),(3.47 ±6.55),(4.57 ± 4.17 )respectively, the difference was significant(P<0.05). The somatic symptoms had significantly positive correlation with mental status in military rescuers (r=0.17~0.52, P< 0.05 or 0.01 ). Failure of social support had positive correlation with mental disorders (r=0.18~0.40, P<0.05 or 0.01). The degree of social support was the main factor which had affected on the psychosomatic health of military rescuers. The somatic symptoms of military rescuers were apparently higher than their mental symptoms. Mental and pharmaceutical intervention showed good effect on them. Conclusion There is an apparent effect for military rescuers injured seriously psychosomatic health through medication or mental intervention.

Objective:To explore personality change and its association with lncRNA expression of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in patients with epilepsy.Methods:Fifty-eight epilepsy patients recruited by the convenient sampling were assessed utilizing personality diagnostic questionnaire(PDQ) for personality change screening. The expression levels of lncRNA in peripheral blood of study group and the controls were investigated by qRT-PCR.Descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis and ROC analysis were employed for data processing. Results:There were 9 of schizoid (S≥4), 11 of schizotypal(S≥5), 17 of paranoid (S≥4) and 15 of compulsive (S≥4) personality change in epilepsy patients, and 52 patients had different types personality changes(89.66%).Schizoid, schizotypal, paranoid and compulsive personality changes were negatively correlated with expression levels of NONHSAG012869(PR3), NONHSAT006265(PR4), ENST00000581634(PR6) and ENST00000524610(PR8) ( r=-0.46--0.71, P<0.05 or 0.01).PR1, PR3, and PR8 had significant predictive effects on schizoid personality change ( P<0.01), PR4, PR8 had a significant predictive effect on schizotypal personality change ( P<0.01), PR3, PR4 and PR6 had significant predictive effects on paranoid personality change( P<0.05), and PR4, PR5, PR8 had significant predictive effects on compulsive personality change ( P<0.05).The effects of lncRNAs on the personality change variance accounted for 0.36, 0.30, 0.40, 0.20 respectively.ROC curve analysis of the diagnostic value of lncRNA expression level on personality change in the epilepsy group showed that NONHSAG012869 (PR3), NONHSAT006265(PR4), ENST00000581634(PR6) and ENST00000524610(PR8) had certain diagnostic value for personality change. The area under curve(AUC)=0.650-0.682, P<0.05, 95% CI: 0.546-0.784. Conclusion:Schizoid, schizotypal, paranoid, and compulsive personality change are common in epileptic patients, and the expression level of peripheral blood lncRNA has a certain diagnostic value for personality change.
