OBJECTIVETo assess the temperature variation of the root surface using Nd: YAG laser irradiation in the root canal with different power and to evaluate the safety of laser application on the periodontal region.

METHODSThirty extracted human teeth with single-roots were collected. The teeth were cross-sectioned in the cervical portion, standardizing the roots at a 12-mm length. The roots were used as specimen. The roots were radiographed in the buccal-lingual direction to measure the thickness of the proximal walls, by means of a digital radiographic system. The specimens were divided into three groups according to the laser potency (1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 W). Each group was subdivided into two subgroups according to laser frequency (15 and 30 Hz). With the Nd: YAG laser irradiation for 20 s, the temperature variation of the root surface was monitored by thermocouples located at different parts of the root external wall and recorded by digital thermometers.

RESULTSThe groups irradiated with 4.5 W presented the greatest temperature variation (above 10°C), followed by 3.0 and 1.5 W. The temperatures were statistically different (P < 0.01). The groups irradiated in the same potency, regardless of whether 15 Hz or 30 Hz was used, presented with no statistical difference (P > 0.05). The apical half of the root presented statistically higher temperature rises than the cervical half of the root (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe temperature variation of the root surface was associated with laser power, irradiation time, and the thickness of dentin. Application of Nd: YAG laser in the root at 1.5 W for 20 s can safely be used in endodontic treatment.

Objective To explore how does chymase affect diabetic cardiomyopathy by investigating the gene expression of chymase and the relationship between the gene expression of chymase and the angiotensin Ⅱ in the cardiomyopathy of streptozotocin-induced diabetic hamasters. Methods Diabetic hamsters were induced by intraperitoneal injection of STZ 40 mg/kg once a day for 3 days. After stabilization of diabetic state for 18 weeks, the myocardial ultrastructure was observed with electron microscope and pathologic changes were observed by light microscopy. Immunohistochemistry was used to measure the level of expression of type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen in diabetic and normal hamster hearts. Level of blood glucose, lipoprotein was determined using biocehemical methods. Apoptosis of cardiomyocyte was measured using TUNEL methods. Radioimmunuoassay method was used to determine the level of angiotensin Ⅱ. RT-PCR was used to determine chymase gene expression (corrected by?-actin). ResultsComparing with the control group, levels of serum glucose, TG, TC, LDL in DM group were much higher. Concentrations of collagen Ⅰ, Ⅲ and angiotensin Ⅱ [(95.8?16.0)?g/kg tissue vs (51.1?20.8)?g/kg tissue] in myocardial tissue in DM group were much higher than those in control group. RT-PCR result showed: Comparing with the control group, the mRNA expression of chymase in DM group was promoted significantly (0.810?0.026 vs 0.490?0.087). Conclusion In diabetic hamsters, the gene expression of chymase were much higher than thatin the control group, accompanying higher level of Angiotensin Ⅱ, higher levels of expression of collagen Ⅰ and Ⅲ. This result suggests that chymase plays an important role in the diabetic cardiomyopathy by promoting the activity of chymase.

Objective To understand the attitude and current situation of medical English stud y as well as its relevant factors among long schooling medical students so as to provide first hand information for constructing students-centered medical English teaching model. Methods A self-de-signed questionnaire including basic information of students, attitude and current situation of medical English students was given to 134 seven or eight year program clinical medical graduates from grade 2006 to grade 2008 in Tongji University. Questionnaires were collected timely and an-alyzed with SPSS 19.0 and results were described by percentage. Results Totally 132 copies of questionnaire were recovered with an recovering rate of 98.51%. 56.82%(75/132) students had interest in medical English study and 71.97%(95/132)students had a will to go abroad for learning exchange. Main pur-poses for students to learn medical English were ‘professional literature reading’(68.94%,91/132),‘SCI papers writing’(59.09%,78/132)and ‘international communication’(58.33%, 77/132). Main influencing factors of medical English study were ‘boring teaching methods ’ ( 45 . 45%, 60/132 ) ,‘difficult medical English’(41.67%,55/132) and ‘insufficient teaching time’(40.91%,54/132).Conclusions Medical students with long schooling have demand for medical English study;however, most of them have some difficulties in practical application. Measures should be taken from three as-pects including students, teachers and curriculum setting to improve students' medical English.

In recent years, biomimetic nanoparticle delivery systems mediated by natural cell membranes have become a research hotspot to address these issues. The natural membrane biomimetic nanoparticle delivery system cleverly integrates the advantages of natural biofilm "autologous" and "artificial" functional carriers by using endogenous cell membranes to modify the surface of nanocarriers, endowing them with characteristics such as tumor targeting, low immunogenicity, and long blood circulation. Currently, biomimetic nanoparticle delivery systems have been used in the treatment of malignant tumors, cardiovascular diseases, bacterial infections, and other diseases. This paper analyzes the development status and current research hotspots of natural cell membrane camouflaged biomimetic nanoparticle delivery systems mainly reviews the latest research progress of red blood cell membrane camouflaged biomimetic nanoparticle delivery systems in the field of disease treatment in recent years. It focuses on exploring the advantages, future development prospects, and limitations of biomimetic nanoparticle delivery systems based on red blood cell membrane camouflage in improving drug delivery, to provide a reference for the in-depth research and development of this system.
