Objective To evaluate the long-term effectiveness of different-dose of botulinum toxin A (BTXA) therapy on axillary hyperhidrosis. Methods Total 86 patients with axillary hyperhidrosis were self-controlled.One group of left axillary was injected with a low-dose of BTXA,50U.Another group of right axillary was injected with a high-dose of BTXA.A total dose of 200 U of BTXA was used per axilla.Patients were followed-up for 29 months. To investigate the effect of two methods,we analyzed two ranked data by rank sum test and x2 test to judge the disparities of the therapeutic effect. Results The results showed that the relapse-free interval of two groups with axillary hyperhidrosis was significant difference through the statistical analysis (P < 0.05).Conclusions High-dose of BTXA treatment is capable of prolonging the antihidrotic effect on axillary hyperhidrosis.

Objective:To explore the relationship between tobacco smoking and liver cancer risk. Methods:Cohort studies of cigarette smoking and risk of liver cancer were identified by searching MEDLINE and CBM databases from January 1989 to September 2009. Results from individual studies were combined synthetically by Meta analysis using R software and Meta package. Results:A total of 19 articles were included in our analysis. The cohort totally included 3 023 558 followed-up persons and 9 525 cases of liver cancer patients. The pooled relative risk (RR) of liver cancer was 1.49 (95%CI: 1.17-1.92) for smokers compared with non-smokers. The results showed a statistically moderate association between tobacco smoking and the risk of liver cancer. Subgroup analysis indicated that the pooled RRs for smoking were 1.53(95%CI : 1.29-1.83)for male smokers and 1.70(95%CI :1.17-2.48)for female smokers, respectively. Conclusion:Tobacco smoking is a risk factor for liver cancer in both males and females.

[ ABSTRACT] AIM:To investigate the inhibitory effect of ginsenoside Re on intimal hyperplasia induced by bal-loon-injury and to explore the role of NF-κB p65 signaling pathway in the process.METHODS:SD rats (n=40) were di-vided into 5 groups randomly: sham operation group, model group, low-dose ginsenoside Re group, middle-dose ginsen-oside Re group and high-dose ginsenoside Re group. The carotid artery intima injury model was established by 2F balloon catheters in all groups except the sham operation group. The day after modeling, the animals in model group and sham op-eration group were administered intragastrically with distilled water, and the rats in low-dose, middle-dose and high-dose ginsenoside Re groups were given ginsenoside Re at doses of 12.5 mg/kg, 25mg/kg and 50 mg/kg, respectively. After 14 continuous days, the morphological changes of the injured arteries were observed by HE staining and the lumen area, intima area and media area as well as the ratio of intimal area/media area were determined. The expression of tumor necrosis fac-tor-α( TNF-α) and interleukin-1β( IL-1β) were detected by real-time PCR.The proliferating cell nuclear antigen ( PC-NA) and nuclear factor-kappa B ( NF-κB) p65 were examined by immunohistochemistry.RESULTS:Compared with sham operation group, the vessel cavity was narrowed (P<0.01), the mRNA levels of TNF-αand IL-1β, and the protein ex-pression of PCNA and NF-κB p65 were increased in model group (P<0.05).Compared with model group, the vascular intimal hyperplasia was alleviated obviously (P<0.05), and the mRNA levels of TNF-αand IL-1β, and protein expres-
sion of PCNA and NF-κB p65 were decreased in medium and high-dose ginsenoside Re groups (P<0.05).CONCLU-SION:Ginsenoside Re inhibits the vascular neointimal hyperplasia induced by balloon-injury in rats, and the molecular mechanism may be related to the inhibition of NF-κB p65 signaling pathway.

Objective To investigate the correlationship between proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), intercapillary distance (ICD) and radiosensitivity in uterine cervical cancer. Methods 112 patients who received radiotherapy alone were followed over five years. All PCNA expressions and ICD values were analyzed with immunohistochemistry assay and computer-defined capillary images. Results PCNA expression was observed in all patients with the average index of 0.542 ranging from 0.241 to 0.903 um. ICD averaged 180.42 um (ranging from 58.47 to 243.62 um). Conclusions The PCNA expression and ICD value, being closely correlated with radiosensitivity and response to therapy, can be useful as markers for prediction and selection of treatment decision for uterine cervical cancer.

Objective To study the influence of pulmonary ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) induced by cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB) on pulmonary function and the preventive effect of nicardipine. Methods Sixteen patients scheduled for cardiac valve replacement were randomly divided into two groups : control group ( n = 8) and nicardipine group ( n = 8) . In nicardipine group nicardipine 0.02 mg kg-1 was given at the beginning of CPB; while in control group normal saline was given instead of nicardipine. All patients were operated upon under TIVA with large doses of fentanyl. Swan-Ganz catheter was placed via internal jugular vein after induction of anesthesia. Mean pulmonary arterial pressure (MPAP), pulmonary vascular resistance index (PVRI) and lung compliance were measured and calculated before CPB (T0 ), 5min after declamping of vena cava (T1 ), at tennination of CPB (T2) and at the end of operation (T3 ). At the same time points arterial and mixed venous blood samples were taken for determination of TNF-a, SOD and LPO concentrations and polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) count, intrapulmonary PMN trapping (PMNa-PMNv) and blood gases and calculation of PaO2/FiO2 , P(A-2,)O2 difference and Qs/Qt. The vena cava cross-clamping time was defined as pulmonary ischemia time. Results (1) In control group MPAP, PVRI, PaO2/FiO2 and Qs/Qt were significantly deteriorating after vena cava declamping (T1-T3) as compared with the baseline valves (T0) (P

Objective To study the influence and the optimal dosages of Sijunzi Decoction (SJZD) on treating digestive and immune function of mice with Pi-deficiency syndrome (PDS). Methods The experimental model of mice with PDS was induced by rhubarb decoction. Then the mice were treated with three dosages of SJZD (12.5, 25, and 37.5 g/kg), respectively. The body weight, body temperature, mean retention time of chyme in digestive tract, gastric emptying velocity, gastrin and motilin levels, and visceral index of mice were measured. Results Being compared with the normal group, the PDS mice showed a slower growth of body weight and a lower body temperature, a shorter mean retention time of chyme in digestive tract and faster gastric emptying velocity, a lower gastrin content, and a higher motilin content. Also splenic and thymus indexes were found to follow a downtrend in the PDS mice. Three dosages of SJZD showed a restoration effect on the above all indexes, and the high dosage was the most effective one, especially. Conclusion The high dosage (37.5 g/kg) of SJZD possibly is the optimal dosage on treating the digestive and immune diseases of PDS mice.
