Objective To explore the characteristics of diagnosis and treatment of thoracoabdominal combined injuries (TCI). Methods A retrospective study was carried out in 92 cases of TCI treated surgically, among whom were 41 cases (44.57%) with penetrating injury caused by sharp instument and 51 (55.43%) with blunt injury. Traffic injury was commonly seen. The injuries due to different causes and their clinical signs as well as operative measures were analyzed. Results Of 92 cases, 42 (45.65%) had diaphragmatic ruptures preoperatively, 88 (95.65%) diaphragmatic rupture was found in the first operation and was repaired; 4 (4.35%) did not receive disgnosis due to neglect of the diaphragm in operation; and 13 (14.13%) died. Conclusions TCI is a special type of multiple trauma with severe and complicated injuries and a high mortality. The diagnosis should be based on the mechanism of trauma and volume of bleeding. In the meantime, special attention should be paid to avoiding the missed diagnosis of diaphragmatic injuries. The treatment principle is thoracic injury first and laparotomy second.

ve To establish a method for determination of arsenic in drinking water. Methods The contents of arsenic in water samples were determined directly by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotome-try with masking agent of palladium. The working conditions were defined as wave length of 193.7 nm, slit width of 1.3 nm, current of hollow cathode lamp of 12.0 mA; drying 40 sec at 80℃~140℃ ; ashing 20 sec at 1100℃~1200℃; atomizing 5 sec at 2 300℃; purifying 4 sec at 2 600℃ . Results The linear relationship was 10~200?g/ L ar-senic. The average recovery rates of water samples at concentrations of 50 ?g/ L and 150?g/ L arsenic after being added arsenic standard solutions were 100.7% and 103.6% respectively, and sensitivity reached 10?g/ L. The cor-relation coefficient were 0.9954~0.999 7 obtained from 6 randomly repeated determination of standard curve. The metal ions coexisting in determined water samples didn't interfere the determination of arsenic under the application of common uncoated graphite tube. The 0.2% aluminum didn't disturb the determination of arsenic also. Conclusion This method could be applied in the determination of arsenic in water, especially could be applied in the direct deter-mination of arsenic in more clear water samples.

Objective To investigate the effect of microbubbles mediated ultrasound insonation on proliferation and apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in different phase of cell cycle. Methods Rat thoracic aortic VSMCs were cultured in vitro by the method of tissue adherence. The cells were synchronized by the methods of serum starvation and double thymidine block. The synchronization results were detected by flow eytometer. VSMCs in different phases of cell cycle were exposed to 1 MHz continuous waves ultrasound for 120 s at intensity 0.3 W/cm2 in the presence of lipid-coated microbubbles (1 ml/L). Apoptosis of VSMCs was analyzed by AnnexinV/PI staining using flow eytometry. The proliferation and the proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) protein expression of VSMCs were detected by MTT assay and immunoeytochemistry, respectively. Results The synchronized G0/G1 and S phase VSMCs were achieved, with synchronized rates to 89.53 % and 66.87 %, respectively. Ultrasound sonication for 120 s with microbubbles could significantly inhibit the proliferation and downregulate the PCNA expression of S phase VSMCs,but the proliferation and PCNA expression of G0/G1 phase VSMCs were not affected. After treatment of ultrasound with microbubbles, the apoptotic ratio were found to reach (7.05 ± 2.04)% in G0/G1 phase VSMCs and (27.01 ±3.87)% in S phase VSMCs. Conclusions Microbubbles mediated ultrasound insonation can significantly inhabit the proliferation and induce apoptosis in VSMCs at proliferation stage.

Objective To investigate the effect of ultrasound irradiation combined with liposome membrane microbubbles on the reorgnization of cytoskeleton in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Methods Rat thoracic aortic VSMCs were cultured in vitro. VSMCs were exposed to 1 MHz continuous waves ultrasound radiation for 120 s at intensity 0.3 W/cm2in the presence of liposome membrane microbubbles (1 μl/ml) after treated with platelet derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB). The reorganizations of microfilaments, microtubules and intermediate filaments were examined by using immunofluorescence and fluorocytochemistry techniques. Results There was a substantial increase in the expression of F-actin and assembly of long bundles of stress fibers in the transversed cell body when treated with PDGF-BB. Neither alterations of β-tubulin nor of vimentin cytoskeletal protein organization were observed in PDGF-BB treated cells as compared to those of the contol group. After ultrasound irradiation combined with liposome membrane microbubbles, the expression of F-actin, β-tubulin and vimentin were reduced along with the simultaneous changes in microfilaments, microtubles and intermediate filaments array. Conclusions Ultrasound irradiation combined with liposome membrane microbubbles can induce significant changes in cytoskeleton structure of VSMCs cultured in vitro.

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(01):-
Nutritional studies were made on eleven elderly male hospitalized patients (60-83 years old) receiving nasogastric feeding for from several months to as long as 10 years duration. The major nutrients intake obtained was listed in table 1. According to the physical examination, biochemical parameter of the blood and nitrogen balance, the average intake 1722 kcal of enegy (1175-2700 kcal) and 82.4 g of protein (52.6-117.3g) probably met the need of the patients. Vitamin status (B1 B2 C) by blood and urine examination was rather good because of taking additional vitamin preparation regularly daily besides meal sources. Blood cholesterol concentration was moderately higher (339.3mg/dl) than the normal value possibly due to excessive daily intake. It suggested that the intake of cholesterol should be restricted.A better nasogastric feeding regimen was presented and discussed.

OBJECTIVE: To study the changes of the center of cellular immune thymus and the interference of Jinhong Tablet, a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, during the course of cholangitis. METHODS: Twenty-four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups. Ligation group, simple ligation of bile duct without producing infection and fed with normal saline; untreated group, reproduce acute cholangitis and fed with normal saline; Jinhong Tablet-treated group, reproduce cholangitis and treated with Jinhong Tablet. Five days after modeling, the rats were sacrificed and the thymus were sampled to observe the morphological changes with an electronic microscope, count the index of thymus and apoptosis and assay the expressions of Bcl-2 gene coding protein and Fas gene coding protein. RESULTS: The frequency of apoptosis of thymus in the untreated group was higher than that in the Jinhong Tablet-treated group and the ligation group, and the frequency of apoptosis of thymus in the Jinhong Tablet-treated group was higher than that in the ligation group. Compared with the Jinhong Tablet-treated group and the ligation group, the weight and index of thymus were lower and the index of apoptosis of thymus was higher significantly in the untreated group (P<0.01). The expression of Bcl-2 gene coding protein in the ligation group and the Jinhong Tablet-treated group were much higher than that in the untreated group (P<0.01), but there were no significant differences of the expression of Fas gene coding protein among the three groups. CONCLUSION: There exists a promotion of non-physiological apoptosis of cellular immune center such as decrease of the weight and the index of thymus and increase of the index of apoptosis of thymus during acute cholangitis, which may be inhibited by up-regulation of Bcl-2 gene coding protein with antipyretic and purgative herbs Jinhong Tablet.
