Chinese Journal of Sports Medicine 1982;0(02):-
The method of under--water weighing was used to measure the body composition of seventeen rhythmicgymnasts and four ordinary women. The average fat percentage was found to be 19. 0% in the gymoasts and26. 4% in the non--gytnnasts. The fat oercentage in the body composition of an athlete is not directly proportional to her body weight. It is inversely proportional to her training level. Therefore, in evaluating the physical condition of an athlete, her fat percentage must be taken into account. An artistic gymnast who is reducing bodyweight shows a negative energy belance of 50. 5% and insuffi-cient intake of protein and vitamins. Reduction of bodyweight should therefore be carried out under medicalsupervision.

Aging is associated with declines of the muscular strength and cardiorespiratory functions, resulting in an impaired capacity to perform daily activities. Frailty is a clinical geriatric syndrome characterized by decreases in the biological functional reserve and resis-tance to stressors, which puts older individuals at special risk of disability. To counteract the muscular strength and cardiorespiratory func-tions declines associated with aging, as well as to prevent and treat the frailty syndrome, the strength and endurance training seems to be an effective strategy to improve muscular strength and endurance performance. This article reviewed the exercise prescription in health and frail elderly subjects according to the current situation of the researches about muscular strength and cardiorespiratory function training. Based on the results found, for the healthy older adults, strength training should be performed at moderate-to high-intensity (60%-80%of 1 RM ), and moderate volume (2-3 sets per exercise, 2-3 times/week ). Also, endurance training should be performed at moderate-to high-in-tensity (60%-85% of VO2max), and moderat volume (25-40 min). The frail older adults should exercise 2-3 times a week, for 45-60 min. Strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance training components should be incorporated, and strength and balance training should be empha-sized.

OBJECTIVE:To study inhibitory effects of propofol on PC12 cells injury induced by glutamic acid via mitogen-acti-vated protein kinase/extra-cellular regulated kinase (MAPK/ERK) signal pathway. METHODS:PC12 cells were randomized into normal control group, model group(10 mmol/L glutamic acid),propofol low-concentrations,medium-concentrations and high-con-centrations groups(12.5,25,50 μmol/L+10 mmol/L glutamic acid). The optical density of cells, cell apoptosis, the phosphoryla-tion of ERK1/2 and the expression of c-fos,Bax,Bcl-2 were detected after treated with relevant medicine for 48 h. RESULTS:Compared with normal control group, optical density of cells, the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and Bcl-2 decreased in model group (P<0.01);apoptotic rate, the expression of c-fos and Bax increased (P<0.01). Compared with model group, optical density of cells, the expression of Bcl-2 and the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 increased in propofol group (P<0.01);apoptosis rate, the ex-pression of c-fos and Bax decreased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). There were statistical significant between the different concentrations (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS:Propofol can inhibit the apoptosis of PC12 cells induced by glutamic acid, which is associated with the up-regulation of ERK1/2 phosphorylation.

Objective To study the effect of glucagon-like peptide-1 agonist(exendin-4)on insulin signaling pathway in skeletal muscle of mice with insulin resistance(IR). Methods Thirty male KM mice were divided into normal control group(NC group, n=10)and IR group(n=20). The mice in NC group and IR group were fed with routine diet and high-fat diet for 16 weeks, respectively. After IR models were successfully established, 10 mice in IR group were treated with exendin-4(Ex group, 3μg·kg-1·d-1)for 4 weeks. NC group and IR group were given the same dose of normal saline. Body weight, fasting blood glucose(FBG), and fasting insulin(FINS)were measured before and after the intervention, and homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance ( HOMA-IR ) was calculated . The muscle glycogen content were measured by Periodic Acid-Schiff Stain ( PAS ) . The expressions of insulinreceptor(IRC), insulin receptor substrate-1(IRS-1), and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)in the skeletal muscle were measured by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. Results Before intervention, the body weight, FBG, and HOMA-IR of IR group and Ex group were higher compared with NC group(all P<0. 05), but FINS did not rise significantly(P>0. 05). Compared with before intervention, the body weight of three groups after intervention were all increased, but increased more significantly in the IR group. After intervention, the FBG and HOMA-IR in Ex group decreased, compared with IR group and Ex group of non-intervention (all P<0. 05), but FINS did not decrease significantly(P>0. 05). The skeletal muscle cells in NC control were colored extensively and more colored granules, while IR group were less colored, and Ex group were between NC group and IR group. Compared with NC group, the expressions of IRC, IRS-1, and PI3K in the skeletal muscle of IR group were significantly decreased(P<0. 05), not in Ex group(P>0. 05). Compared with IR group, the expressions of IRC, IRS-1 and PI3K in Ex group were higher(P<0. 05). Conclusions Exendin-4 improves insulin resistance by up-regulating the expressions of IRC, IRS-1, and PI3K in the skeletal muscle and promoting the synthesis of muscle glycogen.

Objective To detect the expression of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) in mice with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP). Methods Male kunming mice (n = 50) were randomly divided to control group, ANP 24, 48, 72, 96 h group. ANP model was induced by intraperitoneally injection with 20% L-arginine at a dose of 4 mg/g each, 1 h apart. Mice in control group received intraperitoneally injections of same amount of normal saline. Serum amylase, creatinine, and ALT were examined and pathological evaluation of pancreatic tissues was performed. The expression of TREM-1 mRNA in peripheral blood leucocyte was determined by RT-PCR. The expression of TREM-1 protein in pancreatic tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results Serum amylase, creatinine, and ALT in ANP 24 h were (9439 ± 1273)U/L, (84.8 ±75.9) μmol/L, ( 158.1 ± 122. 1 ) U/L, which were significantly higher than those in control group [ ( 2412 ± 297 ) U/L, (29.2 ± 19. 1 ) μmol/L, (41.4 ± 7.9 ) U/L) ]. The pathological scores of the pancreas in ANP group increased corresponding to time. The expressions of TREM-1 mRNA in ANP 24, 48,72, 96 h group were 15.55, 30.36, 15.77, 28.32, and the expressions of TREM-1 mRNA in ANP 48 h group was significantly higher than that in other groups ( P <0.01 ). The expressions of TREM-1 protein in the pancreas did not significantly change corresponding to time. Conclusions TREM-1 may be involved in the development of ANP by triggering other inflammatory factors.
