At the time of phage’s discovery, phage therapy was regarded as a possible treatment method against bacterial infection. Although phage therapy was used to treat and prevent bacterial infection in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, it was abandoned by the West in the 1940s with the arrival of the antibiotic era. However, the ongoing evolution of bacterial multidrug-resistance has recently motivated the Western scientific community to reevaluate phage therapy for bacterial infections that are incurable by conventional chemotherapy. With the indepth study of phages, it’s increasingly acknowledged that phages, as the medicine to cure bacterial infection, are convenient, safe and efficient therapeutics. This paper summarizes the recent years’ advanced researches in this area.

Objective To investigate the diagnostic and prognostic value of serum miR-155 for pancreatic cancer.Methods A total of 110 pancreatic cancer patients,70 chronic pancreatitis and 58 healthy individuals who admitted to the First People's Hospital of Hefei between January 2009 and August 2013 were prospectively enrolled.Their serum miR-155 levels were detected by real-time PCR.The receiver operating characteristic curve was employed to estimate the diagnostic accuracy of miR-155 for pancreatic cancer.Correlations between miR-155,carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) and TNM stages were analyzed.The Kap1an-Meier approach and the Cox model were used to assess the prognostic value of miR-155 for pancreatic cancer.Results Pancreatic cancer patients had significantly higher serum miR-155 when compared either with chronic pancreatitis patients or healthy individuals (P ＜ 0.05 for both).The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve were 0.82 (95％ CI:0.75 ～ 0.88) for miR-155,and 0.88 (95％ CI:0.82 ～0.93) for miR-155 combined with CA19-9.MiR-155 increased as the TNM stages advanced,and it was positively correlated with CA 19-9 (R2 =0.22,P ＜ 0.05).MiR-155 ≥ 1.46 △CT was independently associated with pancreatic cancer mortality,with a hazard ration of 2.88 (95％ CI:1.26 ～ 6.58).Conclusion Serum miR-155 is a useful biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer.

Objective To investigate the effect of bilateral cervical vagotomy on microglial activation in spinal cord in a rat model of persistent postoperative pain evoked by skin/muscle incision and retraction (SMIR).Methods Thirty six male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups (n =12 each group):group sham operation,group SMIR,and group SMIR + bilateral cervical vagotomy (SV).The rat model of persistent postoperative pain evoked by SMIR was established according to the method described by Flatter.Pain behavior was assessed by paw mechanical withdrawalthreshold (MWT) to yon Frey filament stimulation at 1,3,and 5 days after operation.Four animals were sacrificed at each time point in each group to detect the expression of Iba-I (a specific marker of microglia) in the spinal dorsal horn with immunofluorescence and the microglia was counted.Results MWT was significantly decreased atT1-5 in SMIR and SV (10.3 ±0.6,9.7 ±0.8,9.6 ±0.5; 8.0 ±0.7,7.7 ±0.4,7.6 ± 0.3),while the expression of Iba-1 and microglia counts in the spinal dorsal horn were significantly in-creased at T1-5 in SMIR and SV (1428 ± 134,1245 ± 129,and 1001 ± 117 ;8.0 ± 0.7,7.7 ± 0.4,and 7.6 ±0.3; 187 ± 13,164 ± 11,and 142 ± 14;and 241 ±21,230 ±21,and 202 ± 19).In group SV as compared to group SMIR,MWT was significantly decreased at T1-5,while the expression of Iba-1 and microglia counts in the spinal dorsal horn were significantly increased at T1-5.Conclusions Vagus nerve plays an important role in microglial activation in spinal cord in a rat model of persistent postoperative pain evoked by skin/muscle incision and retraction.

Objective To design a handy labor monitor based on ARM hardware structure so that the condition of pregnant women can be reflected more accurately and completely.Methods The host-slave mode was adopted,which was composed of host machine based on ARM and embedded WinCE operating system.The slave machine used the 51 single chip to acquire data.Results This system was convenient and stable,and the interface is friendly.Conclusion The study of this system can be used for reference for the development of related data acquisition machine.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2008,29(2):31-33]

Objective:Through the introduction of BioImp Vet Body Composition principle and application of the second classroom experimental teaching practice in medical function, analyzer application characteristics of BioImp Vet Body Composition. Methods:We studied the distribution of body fluid and fat content determination of rats using BioImp Vet Body Composition. The device using the complex impedance measurement technique in vivo, within the second 4 k-1000 kHz scope, scanned the 256 frequency bands. We measured body water content (TBW), extracellular fluid (ECF) and intracellular fluid (ICF), in addition to the amount of fat (FFM) and fat mass (FM). Results:This measurement technique is very convenient, reliable and quick data acquisition in our second classroom teaching and laboratory. Conclusion:the measurement of BioImp Vet Body Composition can be used in the field of medical experimental teaching, has the application and characteristics of portable and feasible of the second class in the experimental teaching of Medical Function.

Objective: To investigate the expressions of HIF-1α (hypoxia inducible factor-1α) and VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) in rhabdomyosarcoma and their clinical significance. Methods: The expressions of HIF-1α and VEGF preteins in 70 cases of rhabdomyosarcoma were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the correlations of the expressions of HIF-1α and VEGF with the clinicopathological characteristics and the prognosis were analyzed. Results: The positive-expression rates of HIF-1α and VEGF in rhabdomyosarcoma tissues were 75.7% (53/70) and 72.9% (51/70), respectively. HIF-1α expression was positively correlated to VEGF expression (r = 0.554, P = 0.000). HIF-1α expression was significantly associated with the factors of gender (P = 0.035), tumor size (P = 0.016) and clinical staging (P = 0.008), but it was not associated with the age (P = 0.555), pathological type (P = 0.625) and lymph node metastasis (P = 0.750). The three-year overall survival rates of HIF-1α-negative patients and HIF-1α-positive patients were 54.5% and 38.0%, respectively (P = 0.045). VEGF expression was significantly associated with clinical stage (P = 0.026), but it was not associated with the age (P = 0.478), gender (P = 0.944), tumor size (P = 0.535), pathological type (P = 0.399) and lymph node metastasis (P = 0.356). The three-year overall survival rates of VEGF-negative patients and VEGF-positive patients were 68.1% and 31.1% (P = 0.011). COX regression model showed that the factors of VEGF expression (P = 0.005), clinical staging (P = 0.004) and tumor size (P = 0.000) were independent predictors of poor prognosis of rhabdomyosarcoma. HIF-1α could not be considered as an independent prognostic factor of rhabdomyosarcoma (P = 0.845). Conclusion: The overexpression of HIF-1α and VEGF in rhabdomyosarcoma is related to clinical staging. HIF-1α expression is associated with VEGF expression, and VEGF is an independent predictor of poor prognosis of rhabdomyosarcoma. Copyright © 2012 by TUMOR.

Objective To investigate the clinical results in the treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) with one stage open reduction and Salter or Dega osteotomy for “walking age”children .Methods We retrospectively reviewed 16 patients(16 hips)with unilateral hip dislocation who had undergone one‐stage open reduction and Salter or Dega innominate osteotomy in the the“walking age”children .the results were evaluated clinically by McKay′s classification and radiologically by the modified Severin′s classification .Early signs of osteonecrosis were identified by neck widening ,epiphysis fragmentation ,and presence of a metaphyseal growth disturbance line in the first year after the operation .Results After a follow‐up of one year on average ,good clinical and ra‐diographic results were noted in 87 .5% and 81 .25% of the patients ,respectively .Osteonecrosis occurred in 3 hips(18 .75% ) .Con‐clusion One‐stage open reduction and Salter or Dega osteotomy is an effective treatment for developmental dysplasia of the hip in walking age .

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of restorative proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) for refractory ulcerative colitis (UC).Methods In this study 60 refractory UC patients received IPAA operation during the period of 1990 to 2010.Data were collected regarding early and late postoperation complications,anal continence function,and characteristics of feces.The patients' quality of life was objectively accessed using the Clevend Global Quality of Life (CGQL)index.0ne-way analysis of variance was used.Results Mean follow-up period was 2 years.Early postoperative complication rate developed in 15％ (9/60),including abdominal or pelvic infection,anastomotic leak,pouch bleeding,pouch-vaginal fistula,and intestinal obstruction.Late postoperative complication rate was 12％ (7/60),including pouchitis,intestinal obstruction,and male sexual dysfunction.Stool frequency per 24 hours and that at night was 3.5 ± 1.3 and 1.4 ±0.6.93％ (56/60)patients differentiated gas and feces well and 3％ (2/60) needed daily pads.According to Kirwan Grading Scale,anal function outcomes were Grade Ⅰ:54 (90％),Grade Ⅱ:4 (7％),and Grade Ⅲ:2 (3％).According to Bristol Stool Form Scale,characteristics of feces were Grade Ⅳ:31 (52％),Grade Ⅴ:25(42％),and Grade Ⅵ:4 (6％).Postoperative CGQL result showed a much better quality of life than preoperative CGQL (F =12.368,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Refractory UC is surgically indicated and IPAA is the operation of choice with safety,satisfactory long-term outcome and improved quality of life.

Objective To assess the clinical effect and safety of human blood albumin in treatment of acute cerebral hemorrhage.Methods 88 patients with acute cerebral hemorrhage were randomly divided into 2 groups. Both group were given routine therapy and 45 cases in the treating group were given additional 10% human blood albumin 100 ml ivgtt once a day for 7 days.14 days served as a treatment course.Neurofunction was compared before and after treatment.Results Both the effective rate (P<0.05) and the neurofunction in the treating group were better than that of the control group (P<0.05).No advert effect happened.Conclusion Human blood albumin is an efiective and safe medicine for treatment of acute cerebral infarction.

AlM: To explore the effect of Danshen injection iontophoresis combined with lumbrukinase on early patients with retinal vein occlusion ( RVO ) , and observe the prognosis to provide objective basis for clinical?METHODS: Eighty-two patients ( 117 eyes ) with early RVO were randomly selected in our hospital from January, 2011 to April, 2014, 41 cases (59 eyes) of control group treated with Lumbrokinase. Forty-one cases ( 58 eyes) of the observation group, treated with Danshen injection iontophoresis combined with lumbrokinase. The main indexes were the treatment effect, visual acuity and retinal circulation time.?RESULTS: The total effective rate of the observation group was 85. 4% ( 35/41 ), more than that of control group 68. 3% ( 28/41 ), the difference was statistically significant (P<0. 05). The invalid rate of the observation group was 14. 6% (6/41), lower than that of the control group 31. 7% ( 13/41 ), the difference was statistically significant (P<0. 05). The vision of the observation group 4. 8 ~5. 0 was 53. 7% (22/41), more than that of control group 41. 5% ( 17/41 ), the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0. 05 ). The restore vision of the observation group 4. 3 ~ 4. 7 was 31. 7% (13/41), lower than that of the control group 41. 5% ( 17/41 ), the difference was statistically significant ( P<0. 05 ). After treatment, retinal circulation time of two groups were lower than before treatment, the difference was statistically significant (P<0. 05). After treatment of retinal vein circulation time of the observation group was 8. 15 ± 1. 30s, 9. 70 ± 1. 28s lower than that of the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0. 05).?CONCLUSlON: There is better effective on Danshen injection iontophoresis combined with Lumbrokinase for early retinal vein occlusion, and can improve the patient's visual acuity, promote the rehabilitation of patients.
