Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 1981;0(04):-
Objective The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of intensified cyclic training on bone moulding reconstruction, and to found the scientific basis of intensific cyclic training as a new training methods. Methods 48 male rats were equally divided into two groups: intensive repetitive training group and control group. The upper segment of tibia was harvested from the animals at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th week after the onset of the experiment for the measurement of cortical thickness (CT), mean wall thickness (MWT) and the percentage of osseous surface of trabeculae and surface area of trabecular Absorption (Sr). The data of intensive repetitive trained group were compared with those of the control group. 1 303 recruits were divided into control group and experimental group. In the experimental group, they were trained by intensive repetitive training program instead of the traditional training program. The incidence of stress fracture was compared between two groups. Results CT (1.37?0.09, 1.86?0.14, 1.94?0.23), MWT (56.37?2.52, 57.28?3.01, 58.23?2.93) and Sos (12.29?1.17, 14.61?1.84, 15.51?1.13) were higher in the training group than control groups at the fourth week, the fifth week and the sixth week, respectively (P

Chinese Herbal Medicines 2010;02(2):125-131
Objective To evaluate the neuroprotective effects of glycyrrhizin (GL) on vascular dementia (VaD) in vivo and Glutamate-induced damage in vitro. Methods Male Wistar rats were subjected to permanent occlusion of the bilateral common carotid arteries. On d 15 postsurgery, rat cognition was assessed using the Morris water maze. The activity of superoxide dismutase and the content of malondialdehyde of brains were also measured. Brain damage was evaluated histologically using HE staining. In vitro cell viability was examined in PC12 cells exposed to Glutamate, and mRNA levels of Bc1-2 and Bax were assessed. Results GL (20 mg/kg for 12 d) improved the performance of learning and memory of VaD rats, decreased the level of lipid peroxidation, and attenuated the pathological alrations in the hippocampal CA1 and CA3 areas. Moreover, GL (0.6 mmol/L) could protect PC12 cell lines from injury induced by Glutamate (10 mmol/L) and inhibit apoptosis of neuronal cells. Conclusion The present findings suggest that GL may have therapeutic potential in treating VaD.

Objective To explore the protective effect of co-treatment with antioxidants 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetra-methylpiperidine 1-oxyl (TEMPOL) and reduced glutathione (GSH) in pancreatic injury induced by intermittent hypoxia (IH) in mice. Methods Fifty male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into control group(CON), IH group (IH), IH+TEM-POL group (IH+TEMPOL), IH+GSH group (IH+GSH) and IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (IH+TEMPOL+GSH). After successful-ly prepared animal model, the insulin resistance (IR) level, pancreatic malondialdehyde (MDA) level, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, glutathione reductase (GR) concentration and pancreatic β-cell apoptosis were detected in five groups. Re-sults The blood glucose level was significantly increased in IH group than that in CON group (P<0.01), but which was sig-nificantly decreased in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group than that of IH group (P<0.01). The MDA content was significantly higher in the IH group than that in CON group (4.48±0.25 vs 1.94±0.21, P<0.01), but SOD activity and GR content were signifi-cantly lower in IH group than those of CON group (61.52±3.33 vs 100.05± 7.26,107.81±7.54 vs 170.54±4.90,P<0.01). The level of MDA was significantly lower in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (2.07±0.35) than that in IH group. The levels of SOD and GR were significantly higher in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (96.68±5.85 and 166.87±5.75) than those of IH group (P<0.01). The apoptotic rate of pancreaticβcells was significantly increased in IH group than that in CON group (2.43±0.07 vs 0.54± 0.06, P<0.01), but it was significantly lower in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (0.56 ± 0.06) than that in IH group (P<0.01). There were no significantly differences in all above indexes between IH group, IH+TEMPOL group and IH+GSH group ( P>0.05). Conclusion The co-treatment with the antioxidant TEMPOL and GSH can obviously protect IH-induced pancreatic injury in mice. However, there was no significant protective effect of TEMPOL or GSH alone on pancreatic injury.

BACKGROUND:The thermosensitive chitosan is a kind of chitosan, its hemostatic effect, tissue compatibility andin vivo absorption need further investigations.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the hemostasis,in vivo degradation and tissue compatibility of thermosensitive chitosan hemostatic film.
METHODS: A total of 48 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups, and carried out two
experiments at the same time. (1) The incisions of the liver in three groups were covered with the thermosensitive chitosan hemostatic film, celulose hemostatic cotton and gelatin sponge, respectively. Blank control group
received no treatment. The bleeding time and bleeding amount were recorded. (2) The incisions of the quadriceps femoris muscle of rats in the above three groups were embedded with the same hemostatic materials respectively. Blank control group was not embedded. At 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 weeks, the incision tissues of the liver and the quadriceps femoris muscle were harvested for observation. After 4 weeks, the incisions were observed with hematoxylin-
eosin staining and transmission electron microscopy.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The bleeding time and bleeding amount of thermosensitive chitosan hemostatic film and celulose hemostatic cotton groups were significantly lower than those of gelatin sponge and blank
control groups (P < 0.05). After 6 weeks, the thermosensitive chitosan hemostatic film was absorbed completely. After 3 weeks, the celulose hemostatic cotton was absorbed completely. After 2 weeks, the gelatin sponge was absorbed completely. The liver lobules of thermosensitive chitosan hemostatic film were complete, the liver cellwere normal structure, showing light sweling and little inflammatory cellinfiltration. Under transmission electron
microscopy, the liver cels had integral structure, cellnucleus and organeles remained intact. The muscle fibers showed complete structure and little inflammatory cellinfiltration. Under transmission electron microscopy, the muscle fibers
ranked tidily, with integral cellnucleus and organeles. The thermosensitive chitosan hemostatic film has good hemostasis effect and tissue compatibility.
