Journal of International Oncology 2006;0(11):-
The quality of life(QOL) in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma ( NPC ) has attracted people' s attention increasingly. Most of the studies focus on measuring scale and influential factor. Both the disease itself and many non-somatic factors can affect the patients' quality of life. In this review, we summarize these research advancements on measuring scales and influential factors, considering that it need more studies regard to quality of life in NPC patients, and it is very urgent and important to work out the special measuring scale of NPCQOL that suits Chinese culture and value system.

Methods Under the same feeding conditions, the Wistar rats were divided into different exposure groups exposed to different kinds of drinking water such as electrolytic ion water (alkaline water), reverse osmosis water, middle hollow fabric filtered water, copper-zinc ally (KDF) filtered water, municipal water and source water respectively. The changes of the indexes including organ coefficient, routine blood test, blood biochemistry and electrolyte were observed at the 3rd and the 6th month of the exposure. Results Higher levels of the count of white blood cells and neutrophil, and higher concentrations of seralbumin and total albumin in serum were observed in rats of tap water group compared with those in control group (P

Objective To evaluate the feasibility of an intelligent three-dimensional ultrasound technique (Smart mid-sagittal planes,Smart MSP) in automatically detecting the fetal cranial mid-sagittal view. Methods Two hundred and forty pregnant women with singleton pregnancies were imaged to display the mid-sagittal view of fetal head using the Smart MSP by six doctors divided into three groups according the different experiences.Another two doctors were then invited to score the images acquired and to compare the successful rates of 6 doctors for acquiring fetal cranial mild-sagittal view according to the doctors' experience. Results The overall successful rate of acquiring the mid-sagittal view was 97.08% (233/240) with the bipartial diameter plane (BPD plane) as the starting plane and 98.33(237/240) with the trans-cerebellum plane as the starting plane by using Smart MSP program. The successful rates in three groups were similar but the consumed times were different(P <0.05).The experienced doctors consumed less time than non-experienced doctors. The scores were also different in three groups. The scores of experienced doctors (group B and C) were significantly higher than that of non-experienced doctors (Group A) (P <0.05).There was no significant difference in the scores between experienced doctors (group B and C) (P>0.05).Conclusions Smart MSP is a novel and feasible method for the automatic visualization of fetal cranial mid-sagittal plane, which may become an effective tool to screen the fetal midline anomalies in future.

AIM: To investigate the effects of vitrectomy combined with cataract surgery on the corneal endothelial cells in diabetic retinopathy.METHODS: A retrospective study was designed.160 patients(160 eyes) with diabetic retinopathy from Jan 2015 to Feb 2017 were divided into two groups according to cataract.74 patients(74 eyes) were operated on vitrectomy, and 86 patients(86 eyes) on vitrectomy combined with phacoemulsification cataract surgery and capsular bag implantation of foldable intraocular lens.To record the change of corneal endothelial cells density, average cellular area, coefficient of variation and percentage of hexagonal endothelial cell before and after treatment with Topcon corneal specular microscope.RESULTS: Before and after surgery, the results of corneal endothelial cells density, average cellular area, coefficient of variation and percentage of hexagonal endothelial cell in simple vitrectomy group were no significant difference(P>0.05);After treatment corneal endothelial cells density and percentage of hexagonal endothelial cell were changed with statistical difference as the same as average cellular area and coefficient of variation(P<0.05);There were significantly differences in corneal endothelial cells between two groups(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: It has certain influence on the corned endothelial cells when using vitrectomy combined with cataract surgery in diabetic retinopathy. For patients with indications,it should be paid attention to protecting the corneal endothelial cells.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the transobturator tension-free vaginal tape (TVT-O) surgery, a minimally invasive surgery for treating patients with the stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Methods 28 cases with female stress uri-nary incontinence treated by TVT-O procedure from April 2006 to June 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. The follow-up time is from 4 to 24 months. Results The mean operation time was 23 min (rang 10~30 min) and the mean intraoperative bleeding was 24 ml (range 15~40 ml). An indwelling catheter had been used for 3 d because of urinary retention in 3 cases. 24 patients(85.7%)reached complete control after the surgery, effective control in 4 patients(14.35%). Conclusions TVT-O surgery is an effective, safe, minimally invasive management to treat the stress urinary incontinence.

BACKGROUND:The repair method of proximal humeral comminuted fractures in the elderly remains controversial. OBJECTIVE:To compare the recovery of shoulder joint function using the hemiarthroplasty of shoulder and locking proximal humeral plate fixation for complex proximal humeral fracture in the elderly. METHODS:A total of 22 elderly patients with complex proximal humeral fracture, who were treated from October 2012 to October 2014, were retrospectively analyzed. 12 cases underwent hemiarthroplasty, and 10 cases received locking proximal humeral plate fixation. Al patients were folowed up after treatment. X-ray films were rechecked during the folow-up. The recovery of shoulder function was evaluated with Neer score. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:During final folow-up, no prosthetic loosening or avascular necrosis of humeral head was found in the shoulder hemiarthroplasty group, and the Neer score was (81±5) points. In the locking proximal humeral plate fixation group, there was fixator loosening in four cases and avascular necrosis of humeral head in three cases, and the Neer score was (69±5) points (P < 0.05). During repair, mean operation time was shorter in the shoulder hemiarthroplasty group than in the locking proximal humeral plate fixation group. The amount of bleeding was higher in the shoulder hemiarthroplasty group than in the locking proximal humeral plate fixation group (P > 0.05). These data suggest that locking proximal humeral plate fixation and shoulder hemiarthroplasty are effective repair methods for complex proximal humerus fractures, but the hemiarthroplasty had the advantage of early functional exercise and good recovery of shoulder joint.

Objective To evaluate the clinical significance of prenatal ultrasonography in diagnosis of retroaortic left innominate vein ( LINV ) . Methods Thirty fetus with retroaortic LINV were involved , including 17 cases of isolated retroaortic LINV and 13 cases of complicated retroaortic LINV . Three-vessel and trachea ( 3VT ) view was focused in the routine second trimester ultrasound screening to observe whether LINV existing or not . And then the transducer was rotated to the fetal sagittal view to assess the relationship between LINV and aortic arch and the convergence of left subclavian vein and left internal jugular vein into the LINV . Results The characteristic feature of retroaortic LINV was the LINV converge into right superior vena cava ( SVC) under the aortic arch ,not above the aortic arch . The most important plane to detect the retroaortic LINV was the 3VT view ,which revealed the abnormal vein lying to the left of pulmonary artery . The abnormal vein then could be traced and revealed its connection with the right SVC beneath the aortic arch on the transverse plane inferior to the 3VT view and on the fetal sagittal plane . Conclusions The whole course of retroaortic LINV can be revealed by ultrasound prenatally ,which can not only account for the abnormal vein to the left of pulmonary artery on 3VT view ,but also play an important role in surgery decision and future cardiac intervention treatment .
