OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at Fenglong (ST 40) on blood lipids.
METHODSTwo hundred and four patients of hyperlipidemia were randomly divided into a Fenglong group and a Xuezhikang group, 102 cases in each group. The patients in the Fenglong group were treated with electroacupuncture at Fenglong (ST 40). After arrival of qi, the needles were connected with acupoint nerve stimulator (LH 202 H type, HANS). The primary parameters of EA: for high triglycerides (TG) type, AM 50 Hz, intensity 1 mA, needle-retained time 20 min, twice per week; for high cholesterol (CHO) type, AM 100 Hz, intensity 1 mA, needle-retained time 30 min, thrice per week; for high low-density-lipoprotein (LDL-C) type, the same parameters as the high CHO type except the tolerable and comfortable intensity; for the mixing type, corresponding methods were alternatively used. The patients in the Xuezhikang group received Xuezhikang capsule orally, 2 capsules each time and twice daily, for total 11 weeks.
RESULTSThe total effective rates of the Fenglong group and the Xuezhi-kang group were 83.0% and 85.9%, respectively, with no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05), and there was no significant differences in the function of regulating blood lipids between the two groups (all P > 0.05). After one month follow-up survey, the total CHO, TG and LDL-C decreased and high-density-lipoprotein (HDL-C) increased, of which there was a significant difference in TG reduction (P < 0.05). There were no relapses in both groups.
CONCLUSIONEA at Fenglong (ST 40) can effectively regulate blood lipids with a better after-effect, which can be applied as a safe and effective method to replace medication for regulating blood lipids.

Objective:
To investigate the prevalence of Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU) infection in infertile men, its influence on routine semen parameters and the distribution of antisperm antibody (AsAb) and its types in infertile patients with UU infection.
METHODS:
We detected the positive rate of UU infection, semen parameters, and the distribution of AsAb and its types in 662 infertile men and 25 normal fertile male controls followed by comparison of the obtained data between the two groups of subjects.
RESULTS:
The positive rate of UU infection was significantly higher in the infertile men than in the normal controls (52.87% [350/662] vs 16.00% [4/25], χ2 = 11.68, P <0.05). The semen volume, sperm count, sperm concentration and percentage of progressively motile sperm were remarkably lower in the UU-positive infertile males than in the control group (P <0.05). No statistically significant difference was observed between the UU-positive and UU-negative groups in the positive rates of total AsAb (43.4% vs 36.5%, χ2 = 3.25, P >0.05) and AsAb IgA, IgM and IgG in the seminal plasma, or in the percentages of serum AsAb IgM (16.9% vs 20.5%, χ2 = 1.22, P >0.05) and IgG (32.7% vs 28.9%, χ2 = 0.99, P >0.05) except in that of serum AsAb IgA (23.6% vs 17.0%, χ2 = 4.03, P <0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
The UU infection rate is high in infertile males, which decreases the semen volume, total sperm count, motile sperm concentration and percentage of progressively motile sperm and increases the positive rate of serum AsAb IgA.

In order to reveal the molecular mechanism of blue labeled genic male sterility (BM-type GMS) and utilize the heterosis of BM-type GMS, we used the anthers of white-seed plants WS (sterile) and light blue seed plants WF (normal fertility) as experimental materials to analyze the differences in gene expression between them by transcriptome technology. And we also verified the genes expressed in anthocyanin synthesis in this study. Compared with WF, a total of 2352 differentially expressed genes were detected in WS. According to GO functional annotation, these genes could be divided into 3 categories and 43 subgroups. They are mainly involved in biosynthesis, phenylpropane metabolism, L-phenylalanine catabolism, membrane components, plasma membrane, cytoplasm, ATP binding, protein serine/threonine kinase activity, etc. KEGG pathway analysis showed that there were 159 genes enriched in the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway, followed by the phenylalanine pathway, including 136 differentially expressed genes. Other genes are also involved a variety of amino acid metabolism, purine metabolism, pyrimidine metabolism and sugar metabolism pathway. Related to anthocyanin metabolism, several structural genes of key enzymes were differentially expressed, and most of them were up-regulated in WF, while only Flavanone 3-hydroxylase (F3H) and colorless anthocyanin dioxygenase (ANS) were down-regulated. Quantitative real-time PCR showed that the expression of 10 genes related to anthocyanin metabolism had the same trend as that in transcriptome sequencing data. Sequence homology analysis showed that the two selected transcription factors (DN48762c2g1 and DN25944c0g1) are clustered into the same cluster as the transcription factors regulating anthocyanin biosynthesis in maize, rice and Arabidopsis thaliana, which might be candidate genes for the blue aleurone layer of light blue seed plants in wheat. And fluorescence quantitative analysis showed that the expression level of DN48762c2g1 and DN25944c0g1 in WF was significantly higher than that in WS. In conclusion, the genes related to the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway are not only related to the blue grain trait, but also may be involved in the anther abortion of BM-type GMS.
