BACKGROUND: Non ulcer dyspepsia(NUD) is a commonly encountered disease at the primary practice. The relations of functional gastrointestinal disorder and Irritable bowel syndrome with depression or stress were suggested by previous studies. But the contributions of the anxiety, depression and stress as a whole to the NUD were not assessed. In this study, we wanted to show the associations of the anxiety, depression and stress levels with NUD. METHODS: This study was performed by case and control method from Aug. 1 to Sep. 7 at the outpatient department of Family Medicine and at the Health Management and Service department in Pusan Paik Hospital. The both groups were matched by sex and age. The case was defined who has three or more symptoms among nine upper gastrointestinal symtoms like dyspepsia, epigastric pain and anorexia etc. frequently or alwalys and who has no ulcer at the gastrofibroscope. The anxiety, depression, stress levels were measured by questionnaire which was validated by previous studies. The questionnaire was composed of Trait-STAI, Jung's Self Depression Scale(SDS), Modified BEPSI, and Grobal Assessment of Recent Stress(GARS) Scale. RESULTS: The total subjects were 136 persons(NUD group : 86 persons/control group : 86 persons). There were. significant differances in regularity of diet(P<0.001), levels of education(P=0.009), and history of medications(P<0.001) between two groups. The two group had higher scores than the control group in the depression score, anxiety score and modified BEPSI score(P<0.001). All items in GARS showed higher scores in NUD group than in control group(P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: NUD group had higher degree of anxiety and depression than the control group. It seems that the NUD may have streeful status. When we encounter the NUD in outpatiet department, we had better consider the underlying psychogenic or stressful conditions.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of fathers about early childhood parenting. METHODS: Selected fathers of children in early childhood were interviewed, and an open-ended questionnaire was utilized to identify the fathers' awareness of the meaning of parenting, priority for parenting, opinions on paternal roles as a child raiser, parenting difficulties, and what education they wanted to receive as fathers. After their statements were collected, a content analysis was done. RESULTS: Results of the content analysis showed there were 45 significant statements, which were classified into 17 categories. The fathers saw the meaning of parenting as being in five different domains: social, cognitive, emotional, physical and environmental. As for paternal roles, they thought that a fathers should serve as emotional supporters. The parenting difficulties that they faced were attributed to time constraints. CONCLUSION: For fathers, development of parent education programs that deal with early childhood parenting knowledge, communication methods and how to play with children according to their developmental stages are required, and qualitative research should be implemented to keep track of the process of changes in parenting characteristics.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that requires patient self-management. Successful self-care by diabetics includes accepting their diabetes status and learning proper diabetes management, as well as creating and maintaining a lifestyle that enables diabetes management.Recently, in order to improve diabetics’ self-care capability, health education has been shared by trained specialists (doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and medical social workers, etc.) through team access. Under these circumstances, the medical social worker acts as a member of the treatment team and plays a role in helping patients’ stabilize treatment and return to society smoothly by training them in psychological, economic, and social issues that make living with diabetes treatment difficult.The purpose of this study was to examine the role of medical social workers engaged in the treatment of diabetics based on their clinical work.

Proliferating trichilemmal cyst(PTC) is a rare benign neoplasm that is thought to be derived from the outer root sheath of anagen hair follicles differentiating toward the infundibular and matrical segments, sebaceous glands, apocrine glands, or acrosyringium. Clinically, it presents as a solitary elevated, lobulated mass on the scalp of elderly women. Histologically, it shows well demarcated multiple lobules of squamous epithelium. The center of the lobule undergoes abrupt keratinization without formation of keratohyalin and foci of calcification are often present in the areas of amorphous keratin. PTC can be associated with sebaceous nevus of Jadassohn, ectopic apocrine sweat glands, spindle cell carcinoma, etc. We report an unusual case of proliferating trichilemmal cyst with trichoepitheliomatous change in a young woman.

Annular atrophic lichen planus(AALP) is an uncommon variant of lichen planus that results from elastolytic activity of inflammatory cells with formation of areas of localized acquired cutis laxa. The annular configuration of the lesions resulted from peripheral enlargement with simultaneous central clearing. Histologically, it shows the feature of lichen planus in the active border of the lesion and a pattern of resolved lichen planus in its center. Elastic fibers had been destroyed in the papillary dermis both in the border and in the center of the lesion, resulting in an atrophic appearance of the lesion. We report a case of annular atrophic lichen planus which has never been reported in Korea.

Osteoma cutis was first described by Wilkins in 1858 and it is a primary cutaneous ossification, which has no preceding trauma or skin disease and no evidence of Albright's hereditary osteodysttophy in the patient or his family. The lesions appear as hard, round to irregular, sharply defined tumors of varying size within the dermis or subcutis, and their color range from red to purple or brown. We report a rare case of multiple osteoma cutis in an infant. A 10-month-old female infant presented with multiple hard purplish nodules on the abdomen for several months and did not show any evidence of Albright's hereditary osteodystrophy and signs of secondary cutaneous ossification such as trauma, injection, and previous skin lesions. The histopathologic finding shows intradermal bony spicules with numerous osteocytes, cement lines, osteoblasts, and osteoclasts.
