OBJECTIVETo observe clinical curative effect of Shenxiong Bushen Capsule for the treatment of mild vascular dementia (VaD), and probe the partial mechanism.
METHODSWith a block random, double-blinded and controled clinical research method adopted, seventy patients with VaD were randomly assigned to two groups in a ratio of 5:2, including 50 cases in the trial group and 20 cases in the control group. The patients in the trial group were given the Shenxiong Bushen Capsule (5 tablets, thrice a day), while those in the control group were given Piracetam (5 tablets, twice a day). All patients of the two groups were treated for 2 months, and one third cases were follow-up surveyed for 1 month. The cognitive ability, the activities of daily living, Chinese medicine syndrome of VaD, and the quality of life were measured respectively before and after the treatment.
RESULTSAccording to the Mini-Mental State Examination, the clinical effects of patients showed that there was insignificant difference between the trial group (total effective rate was 74.46% and 80.85%, respectively) and the control group (total effective rate was 68.42% and 78.95%, respectively) on the cognitive ability and the activities of daily living (P > 0.05), while the curative effect of the trial group (total effective rate was 85.11%) was superior to that of the control group (total effective rate was 63.16%) on Chinese medicine syndrome of VaD, and had significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). The results measured by WHOQOL-SF36 indicated that the total scores and the scores of each field in both the trial group and the control group after treatment increased more than those of before treatment (P < 0.01, P < 0.05), except physical function (PF) field and role physical (RP) field of the control group (P > 0.05). The scores of the trial group about total body, PF field, RP field and vitality (VT) field increased more than those of the control group (P < 0.05); while no difference was shown between the trial group and control group in the scores of bodily pain field, role emotional field, general health field, social function field and mental health field (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONShenxiong Bushen Capsule has a definite curative effect on mild VaD, and it can improve the quality of life of patients. Adopting the SF36 Scale to evalute the quality of life of patients with VaD has significance and avaibility to some extent.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of acrylonitrile (ACN) to cell growth, apoptosis, proliferation and related gene expression of rat normal glial cells (DI TNC1) and tumor glial cells (C6).
METHODSThe concentration of ACN on DI TNC1 and C6 were 25, 50 and 75 microg/ml. For cell growth, proliferation and apoptosis assay, the treated time was 24 hours, for microarray assay, the treated time was 4 and 24 hours.
RESULTSAfter treatment of DI TNC1 cell with 25,50 and 75 microg/ml ACN, the DNA synthesis index were decreased 93.1%, 81.3% and 74.9% as compared to control respectively, the apoptosis index was increased 118%, 122% and 143% as compared to controls respectively. The DNA synthesis and apoptosis indexes of C6 cell showed no change after treatment with ACN. The cell cycle and apoptosis pathway related genes, such as cyclin and p53, also showed changes after treatment with ACN.
CONCLUSIONACN inhibited the cell proliferation of DI TNC1, induced the apoptosis of DI TNC1 and had no effect on cell proliferation and apoptosis of C6 cells, and the related regulation gene expression changes further confirmed the results.

Objective To evaluate the CT findings and classification of the Le Fort fracture. Methods Sixty-two cases with Le Fort fractures were studied with thin-slice high-resolution CT scanning and analyzed with three-dimensional(3D)imaging reconstruction. Results Of the 62 patients,10 had Le Fort type Ⅰ fracture,9 had Le Fort type Ⅱ fracture,8 had Le Fort type Ⅲ fracture, and 35 had various combinations of the three types of Le Fort fractures, including 18 Le Fort Ⅰ+Ⅱ fracture,7 Le Fort Ⅰ+ Ⅱ+Ⅲ fracture and 10 Le Fort Ⅱ+Ⅲ fracture.Fifty-five cases had associated multiple fractures in the maxillofacial region. On 2D CT images,Le Fort fracture manifested as multiple and complex fractures. Though 2D image was better than 3D image in accurately defining tiny fractures and fractures of deep structures, the diagnosis of Le Fort fracture could not be correctly made solely on 2D image.3D CT clearly and stereoscopically demonstrated the entire shape and orientation of Le Fort fracture, thus facilitating the correct classification of Le Fort fracture. Conclusion 3D CT image is important in providing information about the space relationship of Le Fort fracture, thus very valuable for the preoperative planning.

OBJECTIVETo investigate radiation-induced cell cycle changes of human breast cancer stem cells enriched by suspension culture.
METHODSThe tumorigenicity of human breast cancer stem cell line MCF-7 cultured in serum-free media was confirmed in NOD/SCID mice, and the radiosensitivity of the cells was tested by clone formation assay following radiation exposure. Flow cytometry was performed to evaluate radiation-induced cell cycle changes, and the protein expression of pCDC25C (ser216) was measured by Western blotting.
RESULTSAfter the exposure to 2 Gy radiation, the survived fraction of the cells in suspension culture and those in adherent culture was 0.856 ∓ 0.061 and 0.783 ∓ 0.097, respectively, and the cells in suspension culture showed an obviously greater capacity of tumorigenicity in NOD/SCID mice. The radiation exposure resulted in an obvious increase in the proportion of G2 phase cells from (22.03 ∓ 2.12)% to (45.83 ∓ 2.25)% and significantly increased the expression of pCDC25C (ser216).
CONCLUSIONRadiation- induced G2 phase arrest may contribute to the resistance of the breast cancer stem cells to radiotherapy.

OBJECTIVETo explore the deep pathogenesis of acquired cholesteatoma.
METHODSThe temporal bone slides of 12 ears with retraction pocket were histopathologically studied under microscope, especially focusing on the location of retraction pocket and inflammatory pathology in the local middle ear cavity next to retraction pockets. The temporal bone slides of 11 ears with acquired cholesteatoma were histopathologically observed and 33 cases diagnosed as acquired cholesteatoma were clinically observed observed in the local middle ear cavity next to the part without retraction pocket of eardrum. The results of pathological observation of the temporal bone slides with acquired cholesteatoma and clinical observation during operation for acquired cholesteatoma show that cholesteatoma invade mainly and occupied the ossicular chain eara of the middle ear cleft.
CONCLUSIONIn the pathological process of otitis media, the intractable pathological changes in the ossicular chain area can inward adhere posterosuperior quadrant or pars flaccida of the eardrum to form retraction pocket and permanently infiltrate the external squamous epithelial layer of retraction pocket to excessively proliferate and keratinize, leading to formation of acquired cholesteatoma.
