Objective To study the association of the serum soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1(SICAM-1) and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(SVCAM-1) with metabolic syndrome(MS) and its components. Methods The MS was defined by criteria of the international diabetes federation. The levels of SICAM-1 ,SVCAM-1,plasma glucose,insulin,lipids,uric acid, glycosylated haemoglobin A(1C), and blood viscosity were measured. Results The concentrations of SICAM-1 and SVCAM-1 were significantly higher in subjects with MS and its components than in those without them. The concentrations of SICAM-1 and SVCAM-1 were correlated positively with disorder number of BMI, WHR, SBP, DBP,FPG, 2 hour plasma glucose, triglyceride, uric acid, HbA1c, blood viscosity and HOMA-IR,and negatively with high density lipoprotein cholesterol. Conclusions The concentrations of SICAM-1 and SVCAM-1 rise with the increase of the number of MS components. Endothelial dysfunction might participate in the occurrence and development of MS.

Objective To investigate the difference of serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)concentrations in subjects with various glucose tolerances,and to analyze the correlation with insulin resistance.Methods A total of 90 subjects,who came from the Medical Examination Center of the First Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University from Oct.2004 to Apr.2005,were divided into five groups according to oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT):normal glucose tolerance(NGT)group;impaired fasting glucose(IFG)group;impaired glucose tolerance(IGT)group;IFG and IGT(IGT/IFG)group;newly diagnosed,complication-free type 2 diabetes(T2DM)group.By using the ELISA methods,the concentration of serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)was measured in these subjects,and its correlation with homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)was andlysed.Results The concentration of hs-CRP was significantly higher in IFG,IFG/IGT,T2DM than in NGT.The concentration of hs-CRP was positively correlated with glucose metabolism index and insulin resistance index.Conclusion Our study demonstrates that inflammation already exists not only in T2DM patients but also in subjects with IFG.Inflammation might participate in the occurance and development of T2DM.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic value of modified Berlin questionnaire on predicting obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS)in Chinese adults. METHOD: Differ from the original version, BMI cut-off point was adjusted to 25.0 in modified Berlin questionnaire according to the Asia -Pacific obesity definition. A total number of 244 samples who experienced polysomnography (PSG) were included. After well informed, each patient finished questionnaire by an interview. The results of the original and modified questionnaires and polysomnography reports were compared with polysomnography reports to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the modified Berlin questionnaire. RESULT: In male population, the sensitivity and specificity of original Berlin questionnaire were 74.03% and 65.71%, respectively. The percentage of diagnostic consistency was 72.49%, and Kappa coefficient was 0.304 (P < 0.01). In aspect of modified version, the sensitivity and specificity were 92.21% and 48.57%. The percentage of diagnostic consistency was 84.13%, and Kappa coefficient was 0.437 (P < 0.01). In female population, the sensitivity and specificity of original version were 50.00% and 61.90%, respectively. The percentage of diagnostic consistency was 54.55%, and Kappa coefficient was 0.110 (P > 0.01). When comes to the modified Berlin questionnaire, the sensitivity and specificity were 76.47% and 47.62% in female subjects, and the percentage of consistency agreement was 65.45%, with a Kappa coefficient 0.248 (P > 0.01). CONCLUSION Compared to the original version, the modified Berlin questionnaire has a better diagnostic consistency with a considerable sensitivity and specificity in male population. However, in female subjects group, the consistency of the modified Berlin questionnaire was still not significant remains unsatisfactory, although P value has been improved. Modified Berlin questionnaire could be. used as a primary screening tool for male OSAHS patients. However, but the screening questionnaire for female should still be need to be further explored.

Objective To investigate the prevalence and awareness rate of adult diabetes mellitus and the risk factors in Liaoning Anshan. Methods A cross-sectional population survey was performed among residents in Liaoning Anshan and 2 500 subjects participated. Subjects whose fasting plasma glucose ≥ 5.6 mmol/L were confirmed by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Results The standardized prevalence of adult diabetes mellitus over the age of 20 in Liaoning Anshan was 8.2%, and the standardized prevalence of pre-diabetes mellitus was 14.8%. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus increased with age (P<0.05). The awareness rate of diabetes mellitus in Liaoning Anshan was 52.3%(125/239), and the awareness rate of pre-diabetes mellitus was 8.7%(35/402). Logistic regression indicated that age, family history of diabetes, overweight or obesity, waist circumference, hypertriacylglycerolemia was the risk factors (P<0.05), while regular exercise was protective factor (P<0.05). Conclusions The current prevalence of diabetes mellitus and pre-diabetes mellitus in Liaoning Anshan is higher, and the awareness rate is lower.

OBJECTIVE To explore the safe and effective dose of sirolimus (Rapamycin,Sir) and its effect on seizure comorbidities. METHODS Immature C57BL/6 mice at postnatal 10 d of age were administered with kainic acid(KA) 12.0 mg · kg-1 intraperitoneally by a single injection to induce acute seizure. Sir 0.3, 1.0 and 3.0 mg · kg-1 was injected 24 h after seizure every other day until 3 d, 1 week, 3 weeks, 5 weeks and 6 weeks. Western blotting analysis was used to detect the expression and phos?phorylation level of S6 protein and to determine the minimum effective dose of Sir. Effect of the mini?mum effective dose of Sir on cognitive function and body growth was observed by several evaluations. Immunofluorescent intensity of Doublecortin (DCX) immunofluorescent staining was conducted to evaluate the development of neurons in the hippocampus. Morris water maze was used to assess the cognitive function. Tail suspension test, O maze and new object recognition test were used to study the anxiety-like behaviors of mice. RESULTS The result of Western blotting showed that Sir 0.3 mg · kg-1 had no significant effect on the phosphorylation of S6 protein in normal mice or KA mice, whereas 1.0 and 3.0 mg · kg- 1 could significantly inhibit the phosphorylation of S6 protein in KA mice (P<0.05). Sir 1.0 mg·kg-1 had no obvious effect on DCX-positive cells or body wass. Morris water maze showed that KA-induced seizure resulted in prolonged escape latency and swimming length (P<0.05), and a decreased crossing number of target quadrant (P<0.05). Sir 1.0 mg·kg-1 significantly reversed the deficit of cognitive function of KA-induced seizure mice (P<0.05), whereas no significant difference was found between Sir group and normal control group. Compared with normal control group, model group showed increased freezing time in tail suspension test (P<0.05), decreased migration length and reten?tion time in open arms in O maze (P<0.05), decreased retention time and touch frequency with new objects, migration length and average speed in new object recognition test (P<0.05). Sir 1.0 mg · kg-1 significantly reversed the above anxiety and depression status, whereas no significant difference was found between sirolimus group and normal control group. CONCLUSION Sir 1.0 mg · kg-1 inhibits the abnormal activation of mTOR pathway and the formation of epilepsy comorbidity in immature mice. Along with its mild side effect in development, Sir 1.0 mg · kg-1 will be an ideal dose to be used in the treatment of seizure in immature mice.

Aim To study pharmacokinetics and bioavailablity of domestic penicillin V dispersion tablet in healthy volunteers. Methods According to the crossover design, each volunteer in two groups was orally given a single dose ( 0.75 g ) of domestic penicillin V dispersion tablet or imported penicillinV tablet alternately and the plasma concentrations were determined by RP HPLC. The pharmacokinetic parameters were obtained by using ATPK program and calculated on the basis of open single compartment model. Results After a single oral dose( 0.75 g ), the t 1/2(ke) was ( 0.75 ? 0.10 ) h and ( 0.70 ? 0.14 ) h ,the c max was( 8.44 ? 2.40 ) mg?L -1 and ( 8.75 ? 3.04 ) mg?L -1 at ( 0.56 ? 0.11 ) h and ( 0.63 ? 0.17 ) h and AUC 0～4 was( 8.44 ? 2.40 ) mg?h?L -1 and ( 8.75 ? 3.04 ) mg?h?L -1 for two formulations, respectively. Relative bioavailability of domestic penicillin V dispersion tablet was ( 90.50 ? 8.84 )%. Conclusion The result shows that the two formulations are bioequivalent.

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of intermittent feeding through an oral to esophageal (IOE) tube for persons with a late-onset swallowing disorder after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Methods:Fifty-six patients with late-onset swallowing difficulties after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma were divided at random into an observation group and a control group, each of 28. In addition to conventional therapy, the controls were fed through an indwelling nasogastric tube (NGT) while an IOE tube was used in the observation group. The nutritional status of the two groups was compared after 20 hours and after 15 days of treatment. Depression, oral feeding ability, leakage and aspiration, and life quality were evaluated using patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), a functional oral feeding scale (FOIS), a leakage-aspiration scale (PAS), and a swallowing-quality of life (SWAL-QOL) evaluation. From the 3rd day after admission the daily amount fed was recorded.Results:At admission there were no significant differences between the two groups. After 15 days, however, there was significantly greater improvement observed in the average serum albumin, hemoglobin, serum total protein, serum prealbumin level, body mass index(BMI) and SWAL-QOL score of the experimental group compared to the control group, with significantly fewer members suffering from depression. From the 4th day after admission the observation group′s members ate a significantly larger proportion of the target feeding amount.Conclusion:IOE feeding can improve the nutritional status, psychological status, and life quality of persons with a late-onset swallowing disorder more effectively than NGT feeding, with a lower incidence of adverse events.

Among the various forms of RCD, ferroptosis stands out due to its distinct features of iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and involvement of various inhibitory antioxidant systems. In recent years, an expanding body of research has solidly linked ferroptosis to the emergence of skin disorders. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms underlying ferroptosis in skin diseases is crucial for advancing therapy and prevention strategies. This review commences with a succinct elucidation of the mechanisms that underpin ferroptosis, embarks on a thorough exploration of ferroptosis’s role across a spectrum of skin conditions, encompassing melanoma, psoriasis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), vitiligo, and dermatological ailments precipitated by ultraviolet (UV) exposure, and scrutinizes the potential therapeutic benefits of pharmacological interventions aimed at modulating ferroptosis for the amelioration of skin diseases.
