1.Relationship between subclasses of serum HDL and LPL gene HindⅢ polymorphism in hyperlipidemia

AIM: To investigate lipoprotein lipase gene HindⅢ polymorphism and its relationship with serum lipids and apolipoprotein, serum HDL subclasses in patients with hyperlipoidemia. METHODS: Lipoprotein lipase gene HindⅢ polymorphism was assayed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The subclasses of serum HDL in 152 hyperlipoidemia patients and 128 healthy subjects were determined by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis conjunction with immunodetection method. RESULTS: H+H+ genotype and allele H+ in hyperlipoidemia and control groups were both the highest. In hyperlipidemia group, H+H+ genotypes tended to be higher than that in control group, while H+H- and H-H- genotypes were significantly lower (P
2.99Tcm-MDP whole body bone imaging in 25 patients with SAPHO syndrome

Objective To investigate the usefulness of 99Tcm-MDP whole body bone scintigraphy (WBBS) in patients with synovitis,acne,pustulosis,hyperostosis,osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome.Methods 99Tcm- MDP WBBS was performed in 25 patients (6 males,19 females,mean age =(55.1 ±9.8) years)with SAPHO syndrome.Bone lesions were classified into five categories:anterior chest wall,spine,mandible,sacroiliac joint,and limbs.The typical scintigraphic manifestations of SAPHO syndrome were summarized and compared to other radiological imaging data.Results Among 25 patients,32% of cases (8/25)were associated with skin lesion; 48% ( 12/25 ) were pathologically diagnosed with chronic nonspecific bone inflammation by bone biopsy.On 99Tcm-MDP WBBS,abnormal metabolic foci at anterior chest wall were found in all cases,most of which located in the sternocostoclavicular region (96%,24/25 ),including sternoclavicular joints (60%,15/25),first costosternal junctions (48%,12/25),and manubriosternal junctions (44%,11/25 ).Only 20% of the patients (5/25) demonstrated the typical scintigraphic characteristic:“bull's head” sign.The second most frequent part was spine (44%,11/25).Appendicular skeleton was affected in 16% (4/25) patients.WBBS also demonstrated additional skeletal lesions in 68% (17/25 ) of the patients,mainly in first costosternal junctions (7 patients),sternoclavicular joints (6 patients),manubriosternal junctions (5 patients) and spine (4 patients).Conclusions Abnormal metabolic foci in sternocostoclavicular region and other imaging manifestations on 99Tcm- MDP WBBS can be used to diagnose,differentiate,and localize the insidious lesion and evaluate the lesion activity in patients with SAPHO syndrome.
3.Related factors and clinical management of epistaxis in patients irradiated for nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Objective:To explore the clinical measurements for preventing and curing epistaxis in patients irradiated for nasopharyngeal carcinoma by analyzing the related factors. Methods:Thirty patients irradiated for nasopharyngeal carcinoma and consequently presented epistaxis were retrospectively reviewed by analyzing the clinical characteristics and measurements. Literature review was also performed. Results:Twenty-two cases were successfully rescued, and eight cases died (mortality rate:26.6%). Twenty-five cases underwent inflation sponge packing hemostasis, whereas three cases underwent endoscopic hemostasis with cauterization. Five patients underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and selective arterial embolization. For patients who underwent one irradiation course, the epistaxis latent period ranged from 3 to 12 years, and the amount of bleeding ranged from 200 mL to 1 200 mL. For patients who underwent more than one irradiation course, the epistaxis latent period ranged from 6 months to 3 years, and the amount of bleeding ranged from 300 mL to 8 000 mL. Conclusion:Packing through choanal atresia by using inflation sponge, cautery under endoscopy, DSA, and selective arterial embolization are useful and effective measurements for hemostasis. The epistaxis latent period and volume are related to the age, tumor stage, and ir-radiation course of the patients. Patients with advanced age, tumor stage, and more than one irradiation course have short latent period and high amount of bleeding.
4.Efficacy of Bevacizumab monotherapy on radiation-induced brian necrosis

Objective To explore the effects and safety of bevacizumab monotherapy on radiationinduced brain necrosis in patients with head and neck cancer.Methods Twenty-three patients with radiation-induced brain necrosis received intravenous injection of bevacizumab 5 mg/kg every 2 weeks for 4 cycles.Before and 2 weeks after the treatment LENT/SOMA scoring system,Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA),and MRI were used to evaluate the scores of subjective and objective items,cognitive scores,and the extent of edema.Adverse effects were observed.Results Two patients suffered from grade 2 rhinorrhagia after the first dose and had to give up the therapy.Twenty-one patients received the full dose of bevacizumab and showed improvement in clinical signs and symptoms.The MoCA score after treatment was significantly higher than that before treatment (t =3.166,P < 0.05).MRI T2-weighted image showed that the volume of brain edema was decreased by (53.9 ± 22.13)% on average (Z =-5.645,P <0.05).One patient showed mild exacerbation of the extent of focus on MRI after the second cycle therapy but still showed significant improvement at the end of four cycles.Of the 21 cases that successfully finished the whole treatment,one suffered from grade 2 rash and one had mild intracranial hemorrhage,however,no grade 3 to 5 adverse reactions were observed.Conclusions Bevacizumab monotherapy may have a rapid and safe therapeutic effect on radiation necrosis.
5.Effects of methionine enkephalin on immune enhancement by reducing myeloid derived suppressor cells and reprogramming liver metabolism in colon cancer mice

OBJECTIVE To investigate enhanced immune function of methionine encephalin (MENK) and its anti-tumor mechanism in CT26 colon cancer mouse model. METHODS 3×106 CT26 cells were implanted subcutaneously in BALB/c mice. Four days after, MENK was peritoneally administrated at the concentration of 20 mg·kg-1 for 14 d. The percentage of MDSCs in bone marrow, spleen, blood, tumor and liver were detected by flow cytometry. Non- esterified fatty acid (NEFA), triglycerides (TG) and total cholesterol (T-CHO) in liver homogenate were tested by a NEFA test kit, a TG test kit and a T- CHO test kit respectively. qRT- PCR and Western blot were used to measure mRNA and protein levels of inflammation-, glycometabolsim- and lipometabolsim-associated indexes in liver. RESULTS MENK decreased percentages of MDSCs in bone marrow, spleen, blood and tumor in colon cancer mice. MENK-treated mice displayed elevated ratio of CD4+T and CD8+T cells in spleen as well as increased T and B lymphocytes proliferation. Meanwhile, MENK also ameliorated liver damage reflected by lower levels of GPT and GOT in serum and reduced risks of cancer- associated index including inflammation, high lipid and high glucose. Furthermore, MENK lowered down the levels of NEFA, TG and T- CHO in liver homogenate. MENK treatment decreased expression of p- STAT3, increased expression of p-AKT, IRS1 and Glut4 at protein level as well as reduced lipogenesis-associated genes and elevated glycolysis-associated genes in liver of tumor bearing mice. Also, abated expression of genes associated with MDSCs generation (M-CSF, GM-CSF, IL-6, IL-1β) and migration (S100A9, KC) was observed within shrunken subcutaneous tumor by MENK intervention. CONCLUSION MENK has the ability to strength immune function against colon cancer by reducing MDSCs and improving liver metabolism.
6.Effect of isolated soybean protein on the lifespan of drosophila melanogasters

BACKGROUND: Many data demonstrate that the components of soybean can lower blood lipid,suppress the growth of cancer cells and exert weak estrogenic activities. However,little is known about the effect of isolated soybean protein on the lifespan of the organism.OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of isolated soybean protein on the lifespan of drosophila melanogasters and investigate the mechanism of effective anti-aging and anti-oxidation action.DESIGN: A controlled trial based on drosophila melanogasters.SETTING: Department of nutrition and food hygiene in a university.MATERIALS: The experiment was conducted in the Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene,Public Health College of Xinjiang Medical University from March to June 2002. A total of 400 drosophila melanogasters of American wild type with half for each gender were provided by the Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Public Health College of Xinjiang Medical University.METHODS: The 400 drosophila melanogasters were divided into control group(normal culture) and three-dosage experiment groups(normal culture contained isolated soybean protein 0.2%,1.0% and 5.0%,respectively).From the second day on, the number of living and dead drosophila melanogasters was observed and counted until all died. Meanwhile, mean lifespan,half death time and maximal lifespan were calculated.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURFS: Mean lifespan, half death time and maximal lifespan of the drosophila melanogasters.RESULTS: Compared with that of control group, the lifespan of male and female drosophila melanogasters in experiment groups was prolonged by isolated soybean protein and responded in a dose-dependent manner,especially in high-dosage group. The mean lifespan, half death time and maximal lifespan of both female and male drosophila melanogasters were prolonged by 24.5% and20.7%,27.1% and22.0%,and 13.9% and 10.6%,respectively.CONCLUSION: Isolated soybean protein may have anti-aging and lifespan-prolonging effects on drosophila melanogasters.
7.Overview of management system for conflict of interest of the European Pharmacopoeia Commission and the United States Pharmacopoeia Convention

This article introduces an overview of management system for conflict of interest of the European Pharmacopoeia Commission (EPC) and the United States Pharmacopoeia Convention (USP). The EPC and USP have standardized the management system for conflict of interest in drug standard work in multiple management documents, such as the Guide for the Work, Code of Practice for the Work, Form for Declaration of Interests and Confidentiality Undertaking of the EPC, bylaws, Rules and Procedures of the Council of Experts, Code of Ethics, Standards of Conduct of the USP, in order to ensure the transparency and fairness of drug standard development, improve the credibility and rigor of drug standards. This article introduces the management system for conflict of interest of the EPC and USP, providing reference for the improvement of relevant management systems of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission.
8.Endemic status of schistosomiasis in People’s Republic of China in 2013

This report presented the endemic status of schistosomiasis in the People's Republic of China at national level in 2013. By the end of 2013,there are 184 943 schistosomiasis japonica cases. Meanwhile,nine acute cases were reported,and 4 cases reduced compared with that of 2012. A total of 29 796 advanced cases were reported;while 911 cases were determined as advanced cases and 1 700 cases were dead in 2013. Nationally,there were around 365 467.99 hm2 Oncomelania snail infested areas in total and 9.25 hm2 of them habituated infected snails in 2013. There were 287.28 hm2 of snail infested areas found in non?endemic areas historically. Moreover,962 065 cattle were estimated to be raised in endemic regions and 633 cattle were deter?mined as positive by stool examinations. The data showed that the endemicity of schistosomiasis in China decreased further. How?ever,challenges exist to reach the aims of the medium and long term national program. Further control and effective surveillance need to be strengthened as the endemicity of schistosomiasis is unstable in the areas after schistosomiasis transmission under con?trol or interruption.

Objectives It was a preliminary exploration on rare disease management of comprehensive hospital based on the"Center-Multidisciplinary Team"structure.Methods By applying interrupted time series analysis,the characteristics and related medical service of rare disease patients discharged from sample hospitals from 2021 to 2023 were measured.Results The results showed that the hospital served 19 825 rare disease patients from 2021 to 2023.The proportion of patients whose main diagnosis were rare diseases was approximately 27%.The interrupted time series technique indicated that the expected proportion of rare disease patients increased instantly by 1.89 thousand points.The capability to diagnose has significantly improved,with a growing trend on volume of bioinformatics analysis services for rare diseases patients.Conclusion The rare disease management based on the"Center-Team"structure can increase the attention of medical staff to rare diseases,strengthen the diagnostic capacity of rare diseases,and make patient management more continuous and disciplinary co-operation more efficient without significantly increasing the input burden on hospitals.
