Image-guided neurosurgery is playing a more and more important role in modern neurosurgical therapy. The current trend is to construct an open platform for image-guided neurosurgery, to make applied researches of various new therapeutic techniques, and finally to integrate them into the clinical image-guided neurosurgery system.

OBJECTIVEFunctionally, erythropoietin (EPO) can promote the proliferation and growth of erythroid progenitor cells, and it is widely used in the treatment of anemia in chronic diseases caused by tumor and inflammation. However, it is unclear whether EPO has any effect on tumor cell iron metabolism and tumor cell proliferation. The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of recombinant human EPO (rhEPO) on the expression of transferrin receptor (TfR, CD(71) antigen) of leukemic cell K562 and its relation to cell cycle.
METHODSIn vitro culture of K562 cell was performed with additions of various concentrations of rhEPO and Fe. Treatments were terminated at 24 h and 72 h, respectively. Then each group of cells was incubated with FITC-IgG antibody to CD(71) or PI, a kind of DNA dye. And TfR expression and DNA synthesis status were analyzed by flow-cytometry.
RESULTS(1) The expression of TfR by K562 cells increased significantly when incubated for 72 h with different concentrations of rhEPO. The measurement values of 5 U/ml, 10 U/ml and 20 U/ml groups were 12.2 +/- 1.40, 10.7 +/- 0.99 and 11.1 +/- 0.90, respectively. They were markedly increased when compared with that of control group (6.27 +/- 0.11, P < 0.05). (2) When incubated with rhEPO (5 u/ml) alone or combined with FeCl(3) (100 micro mol/L), the percentages of cells in S phase were 51.1% and 59.6%, respectively. They significantly increased when compared with that of control group (42.9%, P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSIron is very important for the proliferation of both normal cells and leukemic cells. It is essential to the activity of ribonucleotide reductase (RR). The authors hypothesized that rhEPO would increase the expression of TfR and intracellular iron content of leukemic cells, which would enhance the DNA synthesis and cell proliferation. Therefore, the clinical application of rhEPO to promote erythropoiesis of cancer patients should be cautious.

Objective To further explore the genetic characteristics of oidiomycetes mutant strains like bacterial morphology on the basis of the study on morphology and structure of mutated candida. Methods The standard strains of candida albicans were induced by low temperature and under the condition of low temperature and nutrient deficiency.Variation of standard strains of Candida albicans were induced by clinical antifungal drugs such as fluconazole with different concentration gradient.Fungal gene template was prepared by boiling method, sequences of 16SRNA and 18SRNA were amplified using bacteria conservative gene sequence of 16SRNA and fungal conserved gene sequence of 18SRNA,and observed and recorded the results agarose gel electrophoresis. At the same time, the amplified fragment of bacterial conservative gene 16SRNA was sequenced, and the sequence was analyzed by BLAST comparison. Results the 16SRNA sequences of candida variant were amplified positive, while the standard strain of candida albicans did not show the corresponding amplification band.Except 2 strains which showed a faint band, the other variants of the 18SRNA sequences did not amplified the target band, while the standard strains of candida albicans showed a corresponding amplification bands.Suggested that proportion of 18SRNA sequences in the genome of oidiomycetes mutant strains like bacterial morphology was not much even lack. The 16SRNA fragments amplified of oidiomycetes mutant strains like bacterial morphology did determination of DNA sequence after purification.BLAST comparison analysis,it was found that sequence of oidiomycetes mutant strains like bacterial morphology had higher similarity with bacterial sequences in the database. Conclusion Oidiomycetes mutant strains like bacterial morphology contained bacterial and a small amount of fungus conservative gene.Oidiomycetes mutant strains like bacterial morphology with original nuclear biological character are ones from eukaryotes. This study is great significance in biological evolution, especially in the evolution of prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells.

Objective: To investigate the application effect of augmented reality and mixed reality navigation technology in three-dimensional(3D) laparoscopic narrow right hepatectomy(LRH). Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 5 patients with hepatic malignancy admitted to the First Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery,Zhujiang Hospital,Southern Medical University from September 2020 to June 2021,all of whom were males, aged from 42 to 74 years.Preoperative evaluation was performed using the self-developed 3D abdominal medical image visualization system; if all the 5 patients were to receive right hemihepatectomy, the remnant liver volume would be insufficient,so LRH were planned.During the operation, the independently developed 3D laparoscopic augmented reality and mixed reality surgical navigation system was used to perform real-time multi-modal image fusion and interaction between the preoperative 3D model and 3D laparoscopic scene.Meanwhile, intraoperative ultrasound assisted indocyanine green fluorescence was used to determine the surgical path.In this way,the LRH under the guidance of augmented reality and mixed reality navigation was completed. The predicted liver resection volume was evaluated before surgery, actual resected liver volume, surgical indicators and postoperative complications were analyzed. Results: All the 5 patients completed LRH under the guidance of augmented reality and mixed reality navigation technology, with no conversion to laparotomy. The median operative time was 300 minutes(range:270 to 360 minutes),no intraoperative blood transfusion was performed, and the median postoperative hospital stay was 8 days(range:7 to 9 days). There were no perioperative deaths,or postoperative complications such as liver failure, bleeding,or biliary fistula. Conclusion: For patients who need to undergo LRH,the use of augmented and mixed reality navigation technology can safely and effectively guide the implementation of surgery, retain more functional liver volume, improve surgical safety, and reduce postoperative complications.
