Objective To investigate the epidemiologic characteristics of patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and the effects of its complications on prognoses in past 7 years in the north area of Guizhou province. Methods Data of 209 patients with SAP admitted to the Department of Critical Care Medicine of Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College from January 2009 to January2016 were retrospectively analyzed, and they were divided into a survival group (178 cases) and a death group (31 cases) according to the prognosis. The gender, age, diagnosis (primary and recurrent), the length of stay in hospital, the levels of creatinine and total bilirubin (TBil), the time of blood purification, hematocrit (HCT) level on the first day after admission, pathogenesis, complications [infection, pseudocyst, intra-peritoneal hemorrhage, acute renal failure (ARF), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS), pancreatic encephalopathy, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS)], sequential organ failure (SOFA) score (maximum SOFA score during hospital stay), application of hormones, surgical interference, etc. related factors were compared, the SAP epidemiological characteristics, factors affecting prognosis and the effect of complications on prognosis in intensive care unit (ICU) were analyzed in the two groups. Results Of the 209 patients 98 cases were diagnosed biliary pancreatitis accounting for the majority (46.9%), hyperlipidemic pancreatitis 76 cases (36.3%), alcoholic pancreatitis 6 cases (2.8%) and idiopathic pancreatitis29 cases (13.9%). The age (years: 47.1±13.5 vs. 53.2±12.0), creatinine (μmol/L: 109.4±100.3 vs. 335.7±222.4), the ration of intra-peritoneal hemorrhage [4.5% (8) vs. 38.7% (12)], ARF [1.1% (2) vs. 54.8% (17)], ACS [1.1% (2) vs. 9.7% (3)], MODS [18.5% (33) vs. 74.2% (23)] and SOFA score (3.3±2.4 vs. 10.5±5.4), percentage of patients using hormones [5.6% (10) vs. 29.0% (9)] were significantly lowered (allP < 0.05) and the time of blood purification was shortened (days: 1.95±1.97 vs. 4.81±5.84) in survival group than those in death group; while the gender, diagnosis, the length of stay in hospital, TBil, HCT on the first day after admission, pathogenesis, complications (infection, pseudocyst, ARDS and pancreatic encephalopathy) and surgical treatment situation were compared between the two groups, no statistical significant differences were seen (allP > 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that creatinine > 300μmol/L [odds ratio (OR) was 2.651, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was 1.459-3.935,P = 0.017], intra-peritoneal hemorrhage (OR was 5.231, 95%CI was 3.517-7.159,P = 0.000), ARF (OR was 3.731, 95%CI was 2.641-4.857,P = 0.000), ACS (OR was 2.517, 95%CI was 1.003-3.098,P = 0.000), use of hormone (OR was 1.012, 95%CI was 0.825-2.051,P = 0.000) and SOFA score (OR was 3.179, 95%CI was 2.630-6.021 andP = 0.000), MODS (OR was 4.716, 95%CI was 2.086-7.902 andP = 0.031) were the risk factors having critical effects on the prognosis of thedisease, The higher the creatinine level, the worse the prognosis. The mortality of ARF was very high reaching 89.5%; the mortalities of patients with complications as intra-peritoneal haemorrhage, ACS, MODS, pancreatic encephalopathy, AKI, infection, pancreatic pseudocyst and ARDS were as follows: 60.0%, 60.0%, 41.1%, 33.3%, 32.1%, 23.1%, 17.7%, 13.1% respectively. Conclusion Biliary disease andhyperlipidemia are the major causes of SAP in north area of Guizhou province, creatinine > 300μmol/L, intra-peritoneal hemorrhage, ARF, ACS, SOFA score, use of hormones are the independent risk factors leading to poor outcome in patients with SAP and the use of hormones cannot ameliorate the disease situation.

OBJECTIVETo investigate how network education can improve college students' knowledge on sexual and reproductive health in Ningbo city.
METHODSFrom December 2012 to June 2013, we conducted a questionnaire investigation among college students in Ningbo city about the effects of network education on their knowledge about sexual psychology, sexual physiology, sexual ethics, and reproductive health.
RESULTSA total of 7 362 college students accomplished the investigation, of whom 2 483 (42.1% males and 57.9% females) received network education, while the other 4 879 (24.1% males and 75.9% females) did not. Approximately 47.1% of the male and 28.0% of the female students acquired sexual and reproductive knowledge via network education. Reproductive health-related network education significantly enriched the students' knowledge about the reproductive system and sex, pubertal development, sexual physiology, conception and embryonic development, methods of contraception, sexual psychology, sexually transmitted diseases and their prevention, pregnancy care and eugenics, and environment- and occupation-related reproductive health (P < 0.01). It also remarkably improved their cognitive attitude towards reproductive health knowledge (P < 0.01). Those who received reproductive health-related network education showed a significantly higher rate of masturbation (P < 0.01) but markedly later time of the first masturbation (P < 0.01) than those who did not.
CONCLUSIONNetwork education can enhance the effect of reproductive health education among college students and improve their sexual experience and health.

OBJECTIVETo compare the therapeutic effects of the greenlight photoselective vaporization of prostate (PVP) and transurethral electrovaporization resection of prostate (TUVP) for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
METHODSOne hundred and sixty-three cases of BPH were treated with PVP and TUVP. All patients were followed up with International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS), quality of life (QOL), blood loss, operative time, indwelling catheterization, mean Qmax, residual urinary volume (RUV) and operative complications.
RESULTSIPSS, QOL, Qmax and RUV were significantly improved after either of the procedures (P < 0.05), no significant difference in the improvement of subjective symptoms and objective signs had been noted with the different procedure (P > 0.05). Mean operative time was (37 +/- 15) min for TUVP and (45 +/- 28) min for PVP, the resection time was longer for PVP than TUVP (P > 0.05), but the intraoperative bleeding and catheterization time were less for PVP than TUVP (P < 0.05). Postoperative complications were less for PVP than TUVP (P < 0.05). The incidence of hematuria in TUVP group had been 41.4%, and urinary irritation after PVP group was 55.2% (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSPVP has the same therapeutic effect as TUVP and less adverse side effects than TUVP. It is a new technique for the treatment symptomatic BPH.

Objective:
To assess the effectiveness and safety of rituximab in Chinese children with autoimmune diseases of the nervous system.
Method:
An ambispective cohort study enrolled patients with refractory and(or) relapse autoimmune diseases of nervous system from June 2010 to June 2016 in Peking University First Hospital. These patients failed to respond to steroids and(or)intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) were treated with rituximab and seen for follow-up visits once every 3 months. The effectiveness was assessed by modified Rankin scale (mRs) and the annualized relapse rate.B cell was repeatedly counted after the treatment.Side effects attributed to rituximab were recorded.Paired rank test and chi-square test were used to compare the mRs score and the recurrence rate (time/year) before and after the treatment.
Result:
A total of 38 patients (15 males and 23 females) with mean age of (6±4) years were treated with rituximab.Among those patients, 4 cases were in multiple sclerosis, 5 in neuromyelitis optica, 6 in opsoclonus myoclonus syndrome, 9 in myasthenia gravis, and 14 in autoimmune encephalitis and other nervous system autoimmune diseases. The course of the disease before rituximab treatment was from two months to 7.25 years, with the average of (21±19) months. The patients had been followed up for 2-52 months. The mRs score and recurrence rate of 38 patients before receiving rituximab was 3 points (3, 4) and 2.56 (1.80, 4.75) times per year, respectively, while patients after receiving rituximab were mRs score of 0 (0, 2) and had a recurrence rate of 0 (0, 0.17) per year. There was statistical difference before and after treatment (

Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2014;20(1):72-79
Ursolic acid (UA) is a sort of pentacyclic triterpenoid carboxylic acid purified from natural plant. UA has a series of biological effects such as sedative, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic, antiulcer, etc. It is discovered that UA has a broad-spectrum anti-tumor effect in recent years, which has attracted more and more scholars' attention. This review explained anti-tumor actions of UA, including (1) the protection of cells' DNA from different damages; (2) the anti-tumor cell proliferation by the inhibition of epidermal growth factor receptor/mitogen-activated protein kinase signal or of FoxM1 transcription factors, respectively; (3) antiangiogenesis, (4) the immunological surveillance to tumors; (5) the inhibition of tumor cell migration and invasion; (6) the effect of UA on caspase, cytochromes C, nuclear factor kappa B, cyclooxygenase, tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) or mammalian target of rapamycin signal to induce tumor cell apoptosis respectively, and etc. Moreover, UA has selective toxicity to tumor cells, basically no effect on normal cells. With further studies, UA would be one of the potential anti-tumor agents.
