Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics,treatment and prognosis of primary esophageal small cell carcinoma (PESC).Methods Fifty-five patients with PESC were analyzed retrospectively.The survival rate was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method and the Log-rank test using SPSS 17.0 software.Results The median survival time of 55 patients was 12 months.The 6,12,24.36months survival rates of these patients were 87.3 ％ (48/55),50.9 ％ (32/55),12.7 ％ (7/55),7.3 ％ (4/55),respectively.In multivariate analysis,stage and type of treatment were shown to be independent predictive.Conclusion PESC is a malignant tumor with early metastasis and poor prognosis.Combined therapy may improve the survival time of PESC patients.

Objective:To investigate a potential role of Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4) ,a pathogen pattern recognition receptor, in the early phase of severely burned rats. Methods: Rats burn model(30% of total body surface area[TBSA],Ⅲgrade) were established with vapor at 108 C for 8 seconds. Rats were sacrificed before and 2,5,12,24,48 and 72 h after burning, and the spleen specimens and peripheral blood samples were harvested. TLR4 mRNA and TNF-?mRNA expression in splenocyte was measured by reverse-transcription PCR(RT-PCR); the expression of TLR4 protein were measured by Western bloting; the endothelial toxicity concentration in plasma was detected by limulus lysate test. Results: It was found that the expression of TLR4 mRNA.TNF-?mRNA,TLR4 protein,and the level of ET were significantly increased in burned group compared with normal control group. The expression of TLR4 mRNA and protein peaked at 8 h after burning, the expession of TNF-?mRNA peaked at 12 h.and the level of ET peaked at 8 h after burnings the peak values of them were (3. 66?0. 51),(2. 27?0. 19), (1.65?0. 23),and (11. 68?2. 63) Eu/ml, respectively, all significantly higher than those of the control group(P

OBJECTIVETo observe the curative effect of massage in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea (PD), and its effect on hemodynamics parameters of uterine artery and serum prostaglandins.

METHODS60 PD patients were randomly assigned to the massage group and the control group, 30 in each. Patients in the massage group received massage, while those in the control group orally took ibuprofen sustained release capsule, both for three menstrual cycles. The pain degree was assessed using visual analogue scale (VAS). The hemodynamics parameters of uterine artery [including pulsatility index (PI), resistance index (RI), systolic to diastolic peak ratio (S/D)], the serum levels of prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha) and PGE2 in the menstruation were detected in the two groups before and after treatment.

RESULTSThere was no statistical difference in each index before treatment between the two groups (P>0.05). Compared with the control group after treatment, the scores of VAS (mm, 33. 17+/-7.93 vs 63.53+/-9.48), PI (2.18+/-0.18 vs 2.74+/-0.23), RI (0.67+/-0.09 vs 0. 86+/-0.27), S/D (5.44+/-0.47 vs 7.56+/-0.28), and serum PGF2a level (ng/L, 28. 10+/-2.41 vs 37.68+/-2.16) were lower and serum PGE, level (ng/L, 29.82+/-2.13 vs 26.43+/-1.42) higher in the massage group, showing statistical difference (P<0.05, P<0.01).

CONCLUSIONSMassage had favorable therapeutic effect on PD. Its effect might be achieved through improving the blood circulation of uterus, adjusting the abnormal levels of PGF2a and PGE2, thus exerting pain relief effect.

Objective To isolate and purify the antibacterial peptides from larvae secretion of housefly (Musca domestica) and study their partial characteristics. Methods Protein isolation and purification were performed by routine process, namely, ultrafiltration, solid phase extraction (SPE) and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chroma-tography (RP-HPLC). The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the antibacterial peptides were examined. The antibacterial effect of peptides was studied in nutritive medium with different pH value(pH 5.0-10.0), divalent cations (Mg2+: (0.5?10-3～10.0?10-3)mol/L, Na+、K+: (10?10-3～100?10-3)mol/L), and serum content(12.5%～75%). Results Molecular weight of the peptides was about Mr 3 000-30 000 after ultrafiltration. The fractions eluted with 20%, 30%, 70%, and 80% of acetonitrile (ACN) all showed antibacterial activity by solid phase extraction. The fractions eluted with 70% ACN showed strongest and stablest antibacterial activity which was further purified by RP-HPLC. Two sub-fractions appeared at around RT 15.5 min and 18.5 min were obtained with antibacterial activity. The MIC to those standard Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aerugirwsa, Staphylococcus aureas, and Bacillus subtilis was 32.7380, 16.3688, 65.4750 and 32.7380?g/ml respectively. OBJECTIVETo investigate effects of the variation of immune function in high humidity environment in different time, and lay a foundation for further study of the related mechanism.

METHODThirty SD rats were divided into 3 groups (n = 10): 20 day group, 40 day group in 90% relative humidity chamber and control group in normal relative humidity. Peripheral blood and spleens were collected to detect the levels of T lymphocyte subsets by Flow Cytometery.

RESULTSIn peripheral blood of the 20 day group rats, the CD3+ %, CD4+ %, CD8+ % and CD4+/CD8+ were 52.91 +/- 6.27, 37.80 +/- 4.11, 14.85 +/- 3.73 and 2.72 +/- 0.82 separately. Expect CD3+ %, they all had significant differences (P < 0.05). In addition, the data of the 40 day group rats showed no diversity in statistics. In spleen, CD8+ % of the 20 day group rats was 6.23 +/- 2.87 with significant differences (P < 0.05) and IgG, IgA and IgM did not change a lot in blood serum of the high humidity groups except C3 of the 20 days group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONIn high humidity environment, the immune function of the rats increased in the initial stage. As time went on, the immune function gradually went to normal level through the self adjustment.

Objective To explore the molecular types of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains present in major hospitals in Qingdao area, using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST) methods, trying to find out the epidemiological characteristics of these MRSA isolates. Correlation of the PFGE types with microbiological phenotypes and clinical data was also studied. Methods 360 isolates of MRSA were procured during 2003 to 2007 from major hospitals in Qingdao. PFGE technology was applied to comparatively analyze the chromosomal DNA digested with endonuclease Sma Ⅰ . Comparison of DNA fragments patterns from each MRSA strain and cluster analysis were performed with the Bionumericus version ' 2.0' software. A dendogram was generated using PFGE macrorestriction fragments on gel images. Data was used to predict the possibility of each PFGE type via SPSS software version 11.0, using the variables as predictors including groups on patient's age, gender, source and the site where MRSA was isolated. Antibiotic sensitivity patterns of these MRSA isolates were determined by K-B tests, and a correlation between these patterns and PFGE types was investigated. Housekeeping genes were amplified with PCR and sequenced in representative strains of variant PFGE types to identify their allelic profile. Results 5 types of PFGE patterns (M0-M4) were identified with MI being the predominant and M2 next to it which was significantly correlated to the isolates from wounds. M3 type strains were mainly isolated from ICU wards and there were a few cases complied with M4 type with no correlated variant factors found in this study. A unique pattern of MRSA isolates with its M0 distinct from other types had not been reported. No significant association was found between PFGE individual types,gender or age groups. M1 and M2 types were the major proportional PFGE patterns among different hospitals. No vancomycin-resistant isolates were detected among 360 MRSA strains. No significant association was found between individual antibiotic resistance and specific PFGE types. Data from MLST analysis showed that the aUelic profiles of M1 and M3 type strain had the same ST239 linage which was commonly present in China. For M2 and M4 representative strains, the allelic profiles were ST5 and ST240, respectively. ST45 and ST398 were corresponding to two PFGE patterns clustered as M0 type. Conclusion Nosocomial infection due to MRSA was evenly distributed among different age groups and no gender bias was observed. The PFGE types of MRSA strains isolated in major hospitals in Qingdao were highly correlated with the sources of isolates and ST239 isolate seemed the prevalent and widespread one. Strategies should be designed to further monitor and prevent or minimize the spread of ST5 MRSA isolates and the like, in Qingdao area.
