Objective: To study the effects of BMPs signals on the proliferation of tongue cancer Tca8113 cells. Methods: Th e cDNA of truncated BMP-II receptor was transfected into Tca8113 cells by usin g FuGENE6 transfection kit, the transfected cells were named Tca8113ZR. The pro liferation and DNA synthesis of Tca8113 and Tca8113ZR cells were investigated b y MTT assay,FCM and BrdU analysis. Results: In MTT assay the A value of Tca8113 and Tca8113ZR cells was 0.47?0.01 and 0.35?0.01 (P0.05).Conclus ion: BMPs might be involved in the development of squamous cell carc inoma of tongue.

Four triterpenoids were isolated and purified from the 95% ethanol extract of Maytenus guangxiensis by silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, MCI column chromatography and preparative RP-HPLC. Their structures were determined from their physicochemical properties and spectral data. They were identified as maytguanone A (1), maytguanone B (2), 11α-methoxyurs-12-ene-1β,3β-diol (3), lup-20(29)-ene-3β,11α-diol (4). Compounds 1 and 2 are new triterpenoids, along with compounds 3 and 4 were isolated from M. guangxiensis for the first time. The cytotoxicity of compounds 1, 3 and 4 was evaluated using the MTT procedure with three cancer cell lines. The results show that compound 3 displayed good inhibitory effects against HeLa, with an IC₅₀ of 10.68 μmol·L^-1.

OBJECTIVE To observe the preventive effect on nosocomial infection by the herbal medicine Atractylodes chinensis disinfectant for air sterilization in cardiothoracic surgery.METHODS A.chinensis disinfectant and ultraviolet irradiation were used to disinfect the patients′ rooms of our cardiothoracic surgery department.The total number of germ and fungus in the indoor air before and after using the two methods were collected.The nosocomial infection rates of the same period were also studied.RESULTS A.chinensis disinfectant had strong effect on sterilization of indoor germs and fungi,and the sterilization rate was 92.7%.The comparison between A.chinensis disinfectant and ultraviolet irradiation showed significant difference in their disinfection effects,while no significant difference in their nosocomial infection rates.CONCLUSIONS The herbal medicine A.chinensis disinfectant can achieve good sterilization effect and prevent nosocomial infection.

OBJECTIVETo detect body composition and evaluate the influence of body composition on nutritional assessment of burned patients by BIA(bioelectrical impedance analysis).

METHODSBody composition was determined in 38 burned patients (32male, 6female) with total burn area 10% approximately 80%(mean 33.1%+17.61%) by BIA during day 1 to day 70 after burns. All patients were divided into two groups: 20 cases in group A (total burn areas >30%), 18 cases in group B (TBSA <30%). Adequate number calories provided by indirect calorimetry.a

RESULTStwo patients died of MODS in the two groups, 36 patients were survived, mean days of stay hospital 33.1+17.6, the value of lean body mass and body fat mass are gradually decreased, lean body mass is especially lower in the two groups despite provided adequate number calories, there is a significant difference in static analysis in the two groups(P<0.05).a

CONCLUSIONThe serve catabolism is prevalent in treatment procedure of the burned patients with major burn, the lower of lean body mass is not changing despite provide adequate caloris in the two groups. It is a simple and precisely method that bioelectrical impedance analysis could measure body composition; it may help objectively assess nutritional status of severe burned patients.

Objective To study the effects of airborne particles exposure on the micronucleus frequency of human binucleate lymphocytes. Methods Airborne particles were collected at a residential area of Taiyuan city with classification air samplers.The organic substance was extracted by dichloromethane acetone and methanol in a Soxhlet apparatus. Four metals,Ni Pb Cd and Cr in airborne particles were extracted by 1∶1 nitric acid and determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.The mutagenicity of the extracts of airborne particles was studied with cytokinesis-locking assay. Results The content of airborne particles in the area was 0.791 9 mg/m3exceeded the related standard by 4.28 times. On account of the dense cuticles of the fresh stem and the light, hard and pliable texture of the dried stem, Dendrobii Caulis is difficult to dry or pulverize. So, it is very important to the ancient doctors that Dendrobii Caulis should be properly treated and applied to keep or evoke its medicinal effects. The current textual research results about the preliminary processing, processing and usage methods of Dendrobii Caulis showed that: (1) In history the clinical use of fresh or processed Dendrobii Caulis as teas and tinctures were very common. (2) Its roots and rhizomes would be removed before using. (3) Some ancillary approaches were applied to shorten drying times, such as rinsing with boiling mulberry-ash soup, washing or soaking with liquor, mixing with rice pulp and then basking, etc. (4) According to the ancients knowledge, the sufficient pulverization, by means of slicing, rasping, hitting or pestling techniques, was necessary for Dendrobii Caulis to take its effects. (5) The heat processing methods for Dendrobii Caulis included stir-baking, stir-frying, steaming, decocting and stewing techniques, usually with liquor as an auxiliary material. Among above mentioned, steaming by pretreating with liquor was most commonly used, and this scheme was colorfully drawn in Bu Yi Lei Gong Pao Zhi Bian Lan (Ming Dynasty, 1591 CE) ; moreover, decocting in advance or long-time simmering so as to prepare paste products were recommended in the Qing Dynasty. (6) Some different processing programs involving stir-baking with grit, air-tightly baking with ondol (Kangs), fumigating with sulfur, which appeared in modern times and brought attractive outward appearance of the drug, went against ancients original intentions of ensuring drug efficacy.

Fulvifomes nonggangensis sp. nov. is characterized by perennial, sessile and solitary basidiocarps, applanate pileus, small cystidioles of 9.9–15.4 Â 2.9–3.5 lm, large pores of 5–6 per mm, a dimitic hyphal system, and broadly ellipsoid basidiospores of 4.3–5.3 Â 3.3–4.2 lm. F. tubogeneratus sp. nov. is characterized by perennial, sessile, and imbricate basidiocarps, a duplex context, small pores of 7–8 per mm, a dimitic hyphal system, and ovoid to subglobose basidiospores of 5.72 Â 5.00 lm.

OBJECTIVETo review the measures for prevention and management of stress ulcer bleeding in patients with extensive burns.

METHODSA retrospective study was conducted in 1093 extensively burned patients to understand the incidence of stress ulcer bleeding in comparison with the results according to the literature reports.

RESULTSThe incidence of stress ulcer bleeding was 3.2% in these patients, significantly lower that reported in literatures (6.8%, n=1023) (P<0.01).

CONCLUSIONComprehensive measures should be taken in extensively burned patients, such as shock resuscitation, early feeding, adequate infection and wound management, use of antacid, painkiller and oxygen therapy, which may help reduce the risks of stress ulcer bleeding.
