Objective To investigate the relationship between calcific aortic valve stenosis and inflammatory cells in peripheral blood and dyslipidemia in elderly patients(age ≥65 years). Methods A total of 76 elderly patients(≥65 years old)diagnosed as calcific aortic stenosis in our hospital from June 2015 to June 2017 were selected as the case group, and 78 seniors(excluding valvular heart disease)hospitalized due to chest discomfort were selected as the control group. The white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophil ratio (N%), neutrophil count (N), lymphocyte count (L), neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR),hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP),N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide(NT-pro BNP),total cholesterol (TC),triglyceride(TG),apo-α,high-density lipoprotein(HDL),low-density lipoprotein(LDL),very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL)and other indicators were tested on admission. All these indicators were compared between the two groups. Results The levels of WBC, N%,N,NLR, hs-CRP, NT-pro BNP,VLDL were higher in the case group than those in the control group. The levels of L and HDL were significantly lower in the case group than those of the control group(P<0.05).Multiple regression analysis showed that smoking, the increased hs-CRP and NT-pro BNP levels were independent risk factors for senile calcific aortic stenosis. Conclusion Senile calcific aortic stenosis is not a simple degenerative disease. It is closely related to systemic inflammatory response and abnormal lipid metabolism.

OBJECTIVETo study the expression of Aurora-B in human glioma tissue and its significance.
METHODSThe total RNA was extracted from 41 human glioma tissues and 11 normal brain tissues by Trizol reagent. After reverse transcription of the total RNA into cDNAs, Aurora-B mRNA expressions in these samples were detected by quantitative real-time PCR. The protein expression in these samples was detected using immunohistochemical staining.
RESULTSAurora-B mRNA and protein expressions were significantly increased in glioma tissues as compared with those in normal brain tissues.
CONCLUSIONAurora-B mRNA and protein show markedly higher expressions in glioma tissue, suggesting that Aurora-B may be one of the malignant biomarkers in the pathogenesis and progression of human glioma.

OBJECTIVETo characterize dark-adapted and light-adapted oscillatory potentials (OPs) in human electroretinogram (EGR) elicited by flashing light stimulation of the same intensity.
METHODSDark- and light-adapted ERGs of normal eyes were studied. The frequency spectra of the extracted dark-adapted OPs and light-adapted OPs were analyzed by a fast Fourier transform. The peak frequency, latency and total power of the OPs were determined.
RESULTSThe averaged peak frequency, latency, and power of the dark-adapted OPs was 125.3∓9.93 Hz, 41.7∓3.56 ms, and 9.25∓5.55 (V·s)(2), as compared with 79.5∓6.79 Hz, 50.8∓5.36 ms, and 3.56∓2.18 (V·s)(2) for light-adapted Ops, respectively, showing significant differences in the parameters between dark- and light-adapted Ops (P<0.001).
CONCLUSIONSCompared with dark-adapted OPs, light-adapted Ops is characterized by a lower peak frequency and a lower power with a prolonged latency.

Objective To determine the efficacy of cemented hemiprosthetic hip joint arthroplasty in comparison with proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) applied to femoral intertrochanteric fracture in elderly patients. Methods This retrospective analysis consisted of 58 patients with intertrochanteric fracture who underwent cemented hemiprosthetic hip joint arthroplasty and PFNA who were admitted between January 2010 and December 2014 in No.202 Hospital of PLA.Their operative time, bleeding volume, postoperative drainage volume, and joint function scores were compared. Results The cemented hemiprosthetic hip joint arthroplasty group had shorter operative time than the PFNA group, but the PFNA group had better Harris scores for joint function in the first month after operation and the last follow-up.Intraoperative hemorrhage and postoperative drainage were exceedingly high in the PFNA group. Conclusion Both therapies can be used to manage intertrochanteric fracture in elderly patients effectively.PFNA is mostly applied in patients with more-basic defects, worse physical conditions, worse tolerance to surgeries, and lighter osteoporosis, whereas cemented hemiprosthetic hip joint arthroplasty is more suitable for patients with less severe physical defects, more severe osteoporosis, and better physical conditions.

OBJECTIVETo discuss the impacts of moxibustion for regulating spleen and stomach function on the survival quality of the patients of end stage renal disease (ESRD) with maintenance hemodialysis (MHD).
METHODSOne hundred and nine cases of uremia with MHD from 3 hemodialysis centers were randomized into an observation group (58 cases) and a control group (51 cases). The regular hemodialysis and conventional medication were used in the two groups. In the observation group, on the basis of the common treatment, moxibustion was applied to Zusanli (ST 36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6), 2-3 times a day, the treatment of 4 weeks made one session. Totally, 3 sessions were required and the follow-up lasted for 3 months. KDQOL-SF (kidney disease quality of life short form,KDQOL-SFTM 1. 3) was adopted for the questionnaire investigation on survival quality before treatment, after treatment and at the end of follow-up separately in the two groups.
RESULTSAfter treatment, the survival quality scores in terms of physical functioning (83.62+/-13.27 vs 79.32+/- 22. 17), general health (58. 88+/- 20.24 vs 48.82+/-20.89) and vitality (77.07+/-15.56 vs 70. 59+/-22.61) in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (all P<0. 05). In comparison before and after treatment in the same group, the survival quality scores in terms of physical functioning, general health, vitality and symptoms/problems were all improved in the observation group (all P<0. 05). At the end of follow-up, the survival quality scores in terms of physical functioning, general health, mental health, social functioning, vitality, effects of kidney disease and cognitive function were higher in the observation group as compared with those in the control group (all P<0. 05). In comparison of the results at the end of follow-up with those before treatment, the survival quality scores in terms of vitality, symptoms/problems and cognitive function in the observation group were improved (all P< 0. 05). The differences were not significant in all of the 19 fields of survival quality evaluation before and after treatment, and after follow-up in the control group (all P>0. 05).
CONCLUSIONMoxibustion for regulating spleen and stomach function improves the survival quality of the patients with hemodialysis in terms of physical functioning, general health and vitality, which benefits the psychological condition of the patients, resulting in the improvements of the survival quality in the fields of mental health, social functioning, effects of kidney disease and cognitive function.

The kidney governs water and is the congenital foundation. The kidney plays an important role in the transportation and distribution of body fluid, has the interior-exterior relationship with the waterffu-organ bladder, and has the meridian connection with the stomach, the reservoir of water and food, through the thoroughfare vessel. Therefore, the kidney plays a key role in the formation of phlegm.Professor CHEN Bo-Lai believes that low back pain of kidney deficiency and phlegm obstruction type is characterized by deficiency in the origin and excess in the superficiality.Excess in the superficiality is manifested as phlegm obstruction, and deficiency in the origin is manifested as kidney deficiency.Clinically, the patients with low back pain of kidney deficiency and phlegm obstruction type mainly have the manifestations of lumbosacral dull pain and fixed pain, stiffness in the waist, limb numbness or hemiplegia, accompanied by soreness and weakness of waist and knees, and preference for pressing and kneading. The treatment of low back pain of kidney deficiency and phlegm obstruction type can be based on theory of kidney being the root of phlegm, follows the therapy of tonifying kidney and eliminating phlegm, and can be performed by the modified use of basic prescription of Litan Decoction(mainly composed of Euryales Semen,Pinelliae Rhizoma,Sesami Semen Nigrum,Platycladi Semen,Paeoniae Radix Alba,Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium and Poria)together with the assistance of herbs for strengthening spleen and dispersing lung based on the differentiation of the complicated symptoms. The thoughts of Professor CHEN Bo-Lai for the differentiation and treatment of low back pain of kidney deficiency and phlegm obstruction type can be used as a reference for the treatment of low back pain with Chinese medicine.
