Objective To compare three kinds of double-dosimetry algorithms used in estimating interventional radiology worker's effective dose. Methods TLDs were put in the Alderson Radiation Therapy Phantom (ARTP) dressed with lead apron, lead cap and lead collar.TLDs were put on the front left chest inside the lead apron and on the left outside lead collar, respectively.Radiation scattering models,intensity-modulated radiotherapy body model at one time and CT dose detection model at another time, were put on the operating table. The ARTP was set at the major operator's position exposed to the Xray, mimicking the real interventional radiology operation.Effective doses were estimated on the basis of organ absorbed doses.Effective doses were also obtained by the use of three kinds of double-dosimetry algorithms. The later three effective doses were compared with the first one. Results Two groups of effective doses were obtained, with each including four data. For intensity-modulated radiotherapy body model, effective doses were 0.138 mSv for phantom method,0.097 mSv for NCRP algorithm,0.161 mSv for Niklason's algorithm and 0.173 mSv for Boetticher's algorithm, respectively. For CT dose detection model, effective doses were 0.018,0.013,0.019 and 0.026 mSv,respectively. The result obtained by using the Niklason's algorithm was the closest to that by using phantom method. Conclusions Niklason's algorithm is more accurate and more practical in eatimating interventional radiology worker's effective dose.

Objective To observe the relationship between morphology of ciliary body and glaucoma with ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM). Methods Eighty shallow-anterior chamber patients and 80 normal-anterior chamber patients were enrolled as shallow-anterior chamber group and control group, respectively. All patients were greater than 40 years old. The shallow-anterior chamber group included 28 patients of acute angle-closure glaucoma (AACG subgroup), 26 patients of chronic angle-closure glaucoma (CACG subgroup), and 26 patients of primary angle-closure suspects (PACS subgroup). Both eyes of all patients were checked with UBM, and position of each eye on sagittal and coronal section of superior, nasal, inferior and temporal were recorded. Then ciliary process height (CPH), ciliary process thickness (CPT), ciliary process interval (CPI), ciliary process number (CPN), A angle and α angle were measured. Furthermore, the difference between shallow-anterior chamber group and control group, the difference between AACG, CACG and PACS subgroup were compared, as well as the difference between PACS subgroup and control group, and the correlation between A angle and α angle was analyzed. Results Compared with control group, CPH and CPT of shallow-anterior chamber group increased, while CPI, CPN, A angle and α angle decreased (P<0.05). Except CPH and CPN between CACG and PACS subgroup, there were significant differences of parameters between subgroup of AACG, CACG and PACS (P<0.05). CPH of PACS subgroup increased than those of control group, while CPI, CPN, A angle and α angle decreased (P<0.05). There was positive correlation between A angle and α angle. Conclusion Morphologic parameters of ciliary process may be sensitive indexes which can early screen primary angle-closure glaucoma.

ObjectiveTo explore the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of the Barth syndrome (BTHS).MethodsClinical data were collected and analyzed from 3 patients with conifrmed genetic diagnosis of BTHS from June 2013 to October 2014.ResultsAll of the 3 patients were males and two of them were twins. The main clinical manifes-tations of the 3 patients were cardiomyopathy and heart failure, accompanied by different degrees of trabeculations of the left ventricle. Two of them were diagnosed of left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC). All of the 3 patients presented with motor retardation, muscle weakness, growth delay and signiifcantly increased urinary excretion of 3-methylglutaconic acid (3-MGC). One patient was found to have neutropenia. All 3 patients hadTAZ gene mutations which included a novel missense mutation (c.527A>G, p.H176R) detected in the twins and a known nonsense mutation (c.367C>T, p.R123X) identiifed in the other patient. All of the mutations were inherited from their mothers. During the follow-up, the twins died at 7 months old and 7.5 months old respectively. The other patient was still alive.ConclusionBTHS is one of the causes of cardiomyopathy in children. In the male patients who presented with muscle weakness, neutropenia, and increased urinary excretion of 3-MGC, especially in those com-bined with LVNC, BTHS should be screened.

Objective To study the impact of psychological care and health education on patients with digestive tract cancer and abnormal emotion receiving chemotherapy. Methods A retrospective analysis was carried outin 245 patients with malignant digestive tract cancer from July 2005 to July 2009 treated in our hospital, 147 cases of these patients received psychological care and health education besides conventional therapy were set as the intervention group, 98 cases given only basic nursing care were set as the control group. The clinical efficacy was analyzed in the two groups before and after chemotherapy using anxiety and depression indexes as indicators. Results After chemotherapy, SAS and SDS scores were significantly lower, while the survival time was significantly higher in the intervention group than those of the control group. Conclusions Psychological care and health education can reduce abnormal emotion in patients with malignant digestive tract cancer receiving chemotherapy and prolonged their survival time.

Starch a natural polymer that is characterized by cheap, regenerative, and good biodegradation is generally mixed with low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystryrene to prepare degradable materials. In order to relieve "white pollution" due to undegradability of plastic materials, starch is mixed with polyvinyl alcohol, polylactic acid, poly-hydroxybutyric acid, polycaprolactone, chitosan, derivatives, and other degradable polymers to prepare fully degradable biomaterials. With gradual exhaustion of petroleum and progressive depravation of environmental quality, starch that is regarded as a reinforcing agent is widely used in rubber industry. Starch is characterized by hydrophilicity, difficulty in processing, and poor compatibility to plastic materials, rubber, and other polymers, so starch is firstly modified and then mixed with polymers to make starch. This study was designed to summarize the application of starch in plastic materials, rubber, and other polymer blends and to investigate the latest research progresses of starch in polymer materials.

Chinese Journal of Ultrasonography 2008;17(8):709-711
Objective To measure the thickness of the iliotibial band(ITB)in normal adult volunteers and to evaluate the value of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of ITB injury. Methods Ultrasonography was used to measure the thickness of the ITB in 20 normal adult volunteers, which were compared with the sonographic findings in 11 patients with iliotibial band friction syndrome(ITBFS).Results The thickness of the ITB in normal volunteers was(1.55±0.40)mm at the level of the femoral condyle and(2.05±0.30)mm at the insertions of tibial tubercle(Gerdy's tubercle). There were no significant differences between the right and left sides. In each of 11 patients with ITBFS,there was a more ITB thickness in symptomatic side than that of asymptomatic side(more than 30% in the difference between two sides). The ITB had a area of decreased echoginicity in symptomatic side. The thickened position of ITB were at insertion resion in 6 cases,at the level of femoral condyle in 3 cases and diffuse in 2 cases.Bursa fluid were found in 4 cases. Conclusions Ultrasonography can effectively evaluate the degree and range of ITB injury, and can give important information for clinical theraphy.
