Objective To compare the therapeutical effect of puerarin, ligustrazine, ginsenoside Rb1, Hydroxysafflor yellow A on cerebral ischemia reperfusion mice. Methods The mice were randomly assigned for sham group, model group, puerarin group, ligustrazine group, ginsenoside Rb1 group, and Hydroxysafflor yellow A group, 24 mice for each group. All the groups were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) by 1 h ischemia and 24 h of reperfusion except the sham group. The puerarin, ligustrazine, ginsenoside Rb1, Hydroxysafflor yellow A were administrated by tail vein injection with 3μmol/kg at the onset of 1 h of ischemia. The neurologic deficit score, infarct area calculated by TTC staining, cerebral cortex blood flow monitored by laser doppler flowmetry, NO content measured by chemical colorimetry and western blot were applied to determine the expression for cleaved-caspase-3 and nuclear transcription factor NF-κB for each group. Results Compared with the model group, the infarct area (15.83%± 1.83%, 22.00%± 2.53%, 22.83%± 1.83%, 17.83%± 1.72%vs. 34.67%± 2.66%) in the puerarin group, ligustrazine group, ginsenoside Rb1 group, Hydroxysafflor yellow A group was significantly decreased (P<0.01 or P<0.05);the cerebral cortex blood flow (598.81 ± 9.90 μl/kg?min-1, 614.78 ± 9.20 μl/kg?min-1, 577.83 ± 5.55 μl/kg?min-1, 583.54 ± 7.98 μl/kg?min-1 vs. 548.43 ± 1.97 μl/kg?min-1) significantly increased (P<0.01 or P<0.05);the NO content (17.09 ± 1.18μmol/L, 18.54 ± 0.54μmol/L, 18.17 ± 0.49μmol/L, 15.10 ± 0.73μmol/L vs. 20.63 ± 0.73μmol/L) ignificantly decreased (P<0.01 or P<0.05);the expression of cleaved-caspase-3 (1.02 ± 0.08, 1.12 ± 0.04, 0.87 ± 0.08, 1.07 ± 0.08 vs. 1.30 ± 0.06) and NF-κB p-p65/NF-κB p65 (1.03 ± 0.19, 1.15 ± 0.05, 1.12 ± 0.08, 0.72 ± 0.08 vs. 1.45 ± 0.08) ignificantly decreased (P<0.01 or P<0.05) Conclusions Four Chinese herbal monomers could improve nerve and cerebral dysfunctions and ameliorate ischemia symptoms with varying degrees. The mechanisms were involved with the enhancement of cerebral cortex blood flow and inhibition of cell apoptosis and the activation of inflammatory signaling pathways.

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound (US) volume navigation technology in guiding the lum?bar transforaminal puncture with full?endoscopic technique through posterolateral approach. Methods From June 2011 to June 2013, 60 patients (37 males and 23 females;mean age:32.9 years) with single?level lumbar disc herniation who had undergone lumbar transforaminal puncture with full?endoscopic technique through posterolateral approach were enrolled in this retrospective study, and they were randomly divided into 2 groups according to whether the assistance of ultrasound volume navigation technolo?gy was used. They received the minimally invasive surgery on L4, 5 (47 cases) and L5S1 (13 cases). In the US?guidance group (29 cas?es), ultrasound volume navigation was used to guide puncture process, and in the C?arm guided group (31 cases), C?arm was ap?plied to guide the puncture process The total puncture time and C?arm fluoroscopy times were recorded. Parameters including Os?westry disability index (ODI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) were selected to evaluate the clinical efficacy. Results Patients had no obvious discomfort during the puncture procedure and no postoperative complications. In US?guidance group, the preopera?tive time was 13.7 ± 2.1 min (range, 11-16 min), and the whole process took 20.6 ± 3.1 min (range, 16-28 min), while the average time of C?arm exposure were 4.9 ± 0.8 times (range, 4-7 times). In C?arm guided group, the average time for puncture procedure was 27.9±1.7 min (range, 25-32 min), and the average times of C?arm exposure were 14.3±1.2 times (range, 13-17 times). There were significant differences between two groups. Compared with C?arm guided group, US?guidance group had the same accuracy rate of puncture (the puncture needles all reached the target area), but the fluoroscopy times and puncture timewere decreased sig?nificantly. There’s no significant difference among the pre and postoperative ODI and VAS indexes. Patients were followed?up at 3 months and 1 year postoperation. The mean follow?up period was 16.4 months (range, 12-26 months). The ODI score of the US?guidance group were 72.9%±5.9%, 17.1%±3.6%and 15.9%±3.3%before operation, 3 months postoperation and 1 year postopera?tion respectively. The ODI score of the C?arm guided group were 73.2%±4.9%, 17.3%±3.3%and 16.1%±2.9%respectively. The VAS were 7.4±0.9, 2.2±0.7 and 1.9±0.8 in US?guidance group, and were 7.2±0.9, 2.1±0.7, 1.8±0.8 in C?arm guided group. Con?clusion The ultrasound volume navigation can guide the lumbar transforaminal puncture with full?endoscopic technique through posterolateral approach accurately, reducing the puncture time and the amount of X?ray radiation significantly. Its puncture accura?cy and efficacy have no significant differences, which could be broadly used in clinical application.

Chinese Journal of Experimental and Clinical Virology 2007;21(4):389-390
OBJECTIVETo investigate the value of detection of hepatitis C virus core antigen (HCV-cAg) for screening blood donor by using the internal reagent enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and anti-HCV antibody.
METHODSThe first and repeat assays were performed for detection of serum anti-HCV and HCV-cAg ELISA in 3972 donor's serum specimens from August to October of 2004. Twenty-five donors positive for anti-HCV were tested with HCV-cAg EIA kits and the results were compared with the results of HCV RNA determination with RT-PCR method.
RESULTSIn 3972 donor's serum samples, only 1 serum specimen was positive for HCV RNA identification among 10 specimens which were positive for anti-HCV in first assays, and only 1 serum specimens was positive for HCV RNA identification among 12 specimens positive for anti-HCV in repeat assays, only 2 serum specimens were positive HCV RNA identification in 3 specimens which were positive for HCV-cAg assays.
CONCLUSIONThe sensitivity of HCV-cAg ELISA is similar to HCV RT-PCR, but it is much cheaper. Therefore, HCV-cAg ELISA and anti-HCV may be used together to screen blood donor.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2019;31(8):786-790
Objective:
To evaluate the toxicological safety of a compound Chinese medicine preparation of gardenia.
Methods:
Eighty healthy SD rats with half males and half females were randomly divided into four groups. The low-,moderate- and high-dose group were given 1.00 g/kgbw,2.00 g/kgbw and 4.00 g/kgbw of the preparation, while the control group was given distilled water,by gavage for 30 days. The changes of diet, weight, hematological parameters and major organs of rats were observed, and the histopathological examination of the main organs was performed.
Results:
The rats in the high-dose group reduced activities and their urine turned dark yellow or green, while the other rats showed no abnormality. No rats died during the experimental period. Compared with the control group, the weight, the total weight gain, the food utilization rate, the fasted weight of the rats in the high-dose group and the hemoglobin content of the female rats in the high-dose group were significantly decreased(P<0.05);the ratio of liver to body weight, the ratio of kidney to body weight, the serum creatinine levels of the rats in the high-dose group and the serum urea nitrogen levels of the male rats in the high-dose group were significantly higher(P<0.05). The livers and kidneys of the rats in high-dose group turned different degrees of dark green;the hepatic pigmentation, hepatocyte vacuolar degeneration, bile duct hyperplasia accompanied with inflammatory cell infiltration, renal pigmentation, renal tubular epithelial cellular swelling, and renal interstitial inflammatory cell infiltration were observed.
Conclusion
This preparation at a dose of 4.0 g/kgbw has hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity to rats. A dose of 2.0 g/kgbw has no harmful effect but less than 100 times of the possible human intake, the safety is not guaranteed.
