The occurrence of foreign body is uncommon in youths and adults. We report here a case of 16-year-old boy who inhaled a foreign body which was overlooked for 6 months. The patient suffered productive cough and received antibiotic treatment for 10 days. But the symptoms did not improve. Chest radiography and CT scan revealed a 1-cm-long needle-like foreign object in the right inferior lobar bronchus. Wedge resection of lung was finally performed because of severe hemorrhage caused by prior bronchoscopy.

A man attempted suicide by shooting seven nails into his head with a nail gun; five in the right temporal region and two in the left. He subsequently presented at the emergency department with complaints of headache. He was found to be oriented in space and time, with no focal neurological deficits. The patient handed the nail gun to the doctors and informed them that he had earlier attempted suicide. Radiological studies showed the presence of nails arranged like a 'martyr's crown'. The man died six days after the surgical removal of the nails. Autopsy was refused by Italian authorities. We conclude that imaging techniques are an adjuvant to forensic medical diagnosis and forensic autopsies.

We accidentally found an unusual case of a middle aged Tibetan woman who had eight metallic foreign bodies (eight needles) in her head, chest and abdomen. These needles were not related to any surgical intervention or trauma. The diagnosis "metallic foreign bodies" cannot usually be made in an acute setting. Some patients may present chronic symptoms, such as infection or pain. However, in some cases, the patients do not have any symptoms.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2010;24(15):700-702
OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the clinical value of dual-source computer tomography in the diagnosis of suspicious airway foreign bodies in children.
METHOD:
Twenty-two children of suspicious airway foreign bodies were examined by DSCT. The original scanning data were reconstructed with MPR, MinP, CTVE and VR. The results were compared with surgical findings.
RESULT:
The position, size, shape and accompanying signs of foreign bodies were clearly demonstrated by DSCT. Twenty cases were diagnosed as foreign bodies in the airway by DSCT. Nineteen cases were confirmed as foreign bodies. Purulent discharge was found by bronchoscopy in 1 case. The rate of conformed diagnosis was 95%.
CONCLUSION
DSCT can demonstrate the foreign body clearly and play an important role in the diagnosis of suspicious airway foreign body in children.
