Studying the chemical component in flowers of Premna integrifolia L. collected in Nam Ha province in summer 2004 showed that: flower of Premna integrifolia L. contains alkaloids, flavonoids, free sugars and 15 inorganic elements including Al, Si, Mg, Ca, Ba, Fe, Mn, Ti, Ni, Cr, Mo, Cu, P, Na and K. One refined A1 substance was isolated and extracted successfully in light yellow needle crystal form, slight smelling, bitterness, melting temperature F=158.8 -163.9oC. Desmos chinensis is a climber tree. Branches brown pubescent, leaves glaucous underneath, petals yellow. This tree distributes in many provinces of Viet Nam, mostly in Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh, Hoa Binh, Ninh Binh, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Thua Thien Hue, Kontum, Dong Nai. The oil yield was 0.2% from air-dried flowers. The essential oil of Desmos chinensis was analysed using GS and RMN. 13 constituents have been identified, including beta-caryophyllene (28.9%), bicyclogermacren (11.5%), alpha-humullene (7.2%), D-germacren (7.2%), beta-elemene (6.4%)

To establish a UPLC method for simultaneous determination of seven chemical markers (gallic acid, catechin, alphitonin, taxifolin, kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-glucoside, quercetin-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside, and kaempferol-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside) of the flowers of Polygonum Oriental collected from Guizhou province. Separation was performed at 45 degrees on a ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column (2.1 mm x 150 mm, 1.7 microm) with a gradient solvent system of 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile-0.1% aqueous formic acid as the mobile phase. The flow rate was 0.3 mL x min(-1), the detection wavelength was 280 nm, and the sample injection volume was 1 microL. In the selected linear range, all calibration curves of the seven chemical markers showed good linearity. The recoveries (n = 6) were in the range of 97.90% -101.4% and RSD were less than 3.8%. The results showed that the seven compounds contained in all the samples of the flowers of P. orientale can be chosen as their chemical markers and that this UPLC-PAD method is simple, reliable and suitable for the quality control of the flowers of P. orientale. However, the chemical markers may be present at different levels for samples collected in different areas and at different times. A collection time of mid-to-late August with relatively high content of the chemical markers was suggested for the flowers of P. orientale.

Thirteen compounds were isolated from the flowers of Chrysanthemum indicum by chromatographic techniques. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods as acacetin-7-0-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), luteolin (2), luteolin-7-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), acaciin (4), acacetin 7-0-(6"-0-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-beta-sophoroside (5), 3-0-caffeoylquinic acid (6), syringaresinol 0-beta-D-glucopyranoside (7), 5,7-dihydroxychromone (8), uracil (9), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (10), 4-0-beta-D-glucopyranosyloxybenzoic acid (11), boscialin (12), blumenol A (13). Compounds 5, 7, 8, 11-13 were isolated from C. indicum for the first time.

OBJECTIVETo study the chemical constituents in the active portion from the flowers of Polygonum oriental.

METHODChromatographic techniques were employed for isolation and purification of the constituents and their structures were determined by spectral analysis and chemical evidence.

RESULTNine compounds were obtained and identified as alphitonin (1), methyl 3, 4-dihydroxybenzoate (2), apocynin (3), kaempferol-3-O-beta-D-glucoside (4), 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene (5), 3,3'-dimethoxyellagic-acid-4-O-beta-D-glucoside (6), kaempferol-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside (7), quercetin-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside (8), kaempferol (9).

CONCLUSIONCompounds 2, 4, 5 were isolated from P. oriental for the first time and compounds 1, 3 were firstly obtained from the genus Polygonum.

In this paper, five field density treatments were set up in the field plot experiment, which were 2 500,3 000,5 000,6 660,8 000 plants/mu(1 mu≈667 m~2). The agronomic traits, economic traits, mineral element absorption and the content of effective components of Chrysanthemum morifolium under different densities were studied. The results showed that dense planting could significantly reduce the number of secondary branches of Ch. morifolium and the yield per plant, but significantly increase the population yield of Ch. morifolium. The yield of Ch. morifolium was the highest when the density was 8 000 plants/mu, but the effect of increasing yield would gradually decrease with the increase of planting density. With the increase of planting density, the N, P and Mg elements in flowers firstly increased and then decreased. The N element content in leaves increased gradually, which showed that increasing the planting density within a certain range could increase the absorption of N, P and Mg elements in flowers and leaves of Ch. morifolium. The contents of rutin, chlorogenic acid and 3,5-O-dicaffeoyl quinic acid in Ch. morifolium showed a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the increase of planting density. When the planting density was 5 500,5 000,3 750 plants/mu, the content of chlorogenic acid, rutin and 3,5-O-dicaffeyl quinic acid had the maximum value. The content of luteolin in Ch. morifolium decreased gradually with the increase of planting density. When the planting density was 7 143 plants/mu, the content of luteolin was the minimum. Considering factors such as yield and active ingredient content, the cultivation density of 5 000 plants/mu(row spacing 40 cm×30 cm) can be selected for standard planting of Ch. morifolium.

The flower of Hibiscus syriacus has good ornamental and edible-medicinal values.In this study,four samples of two varieties,namely white multiple petals flower and pink multiple petals flower,were selected as test materials.And the optimum extraction conditions,relative molecular weight,monosaccharide composition and antioxidant activity of polysaccharides in flower were investigated.Through single factor experiment and response surface,the optimal extract conditions of polysaccharide were designed as follows:extraction temperature at 96.8℃,ratio of material to liquid of 43.5∶1 m L·g~(-1),extraction time of 3.1 h.Polysaccharides of H.syriacus flowers were analyzed by high performance gel chromatography.The average molecular masses of the 4 polysaccharide samples were1.49×10~5,1.25×10~5,1.01×10~5,1.37×10~5,respectively.Polysaccharides of H.syriacus flowers were mainly composed of glucose,mannose,galactose,rhamnose and arabinose by pre-column derivatization HPLC.The ratio of galactose was the highest in five monosaccharide,and the ratio of galactose to glucose was 1.656-4.496.In addition,crude polysaccharides of H.syriacus flowers showed potential antioxidant activity by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical(DPPH)assay,total reducing capacity assay and ABTS assay in vitro,and its antioxidant effect showed a good dose-effect relationship with the concentration of crude polysaccharides.Among the tested varieties,polysaccharides of pink multiple petals flower and white multiple petals flower had the same molecular masses and monosaccharides composition,but the antioxidant activity of the polysaccharides of pink multiple petals flower was higher than that of the white flowers.The results of this study can provide a theoretical basis for the application of H.syriacus flower in the field of functional foods.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the chemical constituents in flower buds of Artemisia scoparia.

METHODThe constituents were separated and purified by means of various chromatographic techniques, and their structures were determined on the basis of physical and chemical properties and spectral data.

RESULTFour flavones were isolated and their structures were identified as cirsilineol (I), cirsimaritin(II), arcapillin(III) and cirsiliol(IV) respectively.

CONCLUSIONCompounds I, III and IV were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Mian-Zao-Er was collected from the bulbs of Scilla scilloides (Lindl. ) Druce, belonging to the Hyacinthaceae family. 17 compounds were obtained using various column chromatographies on macroporus resin (HPD100), silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and ODS, as well as semi-preparative HPLC.
